Maintenance for the week of April 6:

Maintenance completion time

If you take a system down for maintenance then you have to provide an estimated completion time with regular updates. Not doing so is unprofessional.

The update stating "We'll let you know as soon as we have an update." is just as bad because it only goes to show that customer service is treated as not being part of the team and only exists to serve as a buffer between customers and Zenimax.
End the tedious inventory management game.

An ETA only makes sense if this was scheduled, as then you know what you are doing. This was not scheduled, so how exactly are they to know how long the problems will take to be fixed? And why does it matter?

Do you have to jump back on the game the second it's back up?

They do not have to give an eta. It's a nice to have. If they aren't sure how long the downtime is going to be it is better to not give a time and then they wont under deliver which would invite further gripes from the populace

In the case of emergency maintenance, it's entirely possible that they can't give a reasonable or accurate ETA, and that any numbers would be purely guesswork. When the fit hits the shan, a gaming company might not even have someone on duty that can deal with it yet, and no estimate incoming until they do.

Though a forum full of people recreating the same threads over and over at least provides the production staff with entertainment in the meantime.

"Professional" is taking down the server to fix the problem.
I am not happy about it on a Saturday night when I can finally get some time in but none of my buds could get online to game it with me.
All sitting in 10 minute load times.
Cheers for reacting this fast and taking the server down so we don't have to sit through that kind of pain tomorrow.

Lmao, I would prefer someone tell me they don't know then lie and keep upping the completion time.

Anyone work with an unreliable contractor? more frustrating believe me.

Sadly, this is not an indication of their customer service, but both how serious they take the situation and their lack of a clue as to what is going. I know this is a bit harsh, but honestly, while there are many positives for ESO, from what I have seen the player base has more experience with MMOs than the production team.

This is not necessarily a bad thing, just means there are going to be more than a a handful of unhappy players with opinions they are more than willing to share. Hopefully, the production team can handle the heat in the kitchen.

I support over 50 systems on over 600 servers, most with either 99.5% or 99.9% uptime SLA. I assure you I have. It is regular procedure to provide our clients with hourly status updates on the steps of our root cause analysis.
End the tedious inventory management game.

Actually, it's very clear that *you* have never done so, judging by these remarks. Please don't spread misinformation while pretending to be informed. It's a disservice.

The last time there was an emergency maintenance to fix major server and character bugs, it was 16 hours. I'd recommend doing something else for a while, lol. Goat simulator is only $9!

I think I'm going to be one of the early quitters and just move onto another MMO as this is pretty *** poor example of a "Polished launch." Wanna see a real polished launch? Look at GW2 and LotR Online...those were recent and polished at launch and bugs were fixed promptly.

As I said you guys haven't done emergency maintenance before. It isn't like regular maintenance when you can plan out how the fix is going to go. You often aren't entirely certain what the problem is and are trying to fix things as you can. Mind you if you insist they can go ahead and tell you "yes we estimate that it will be up at 10 AM Eastern."

If that would make you happy I'll make it an official suggestion that they always announce the servers will be down for 12 hours and then you can be happy when they are up faster.

Give the job to the Customer Service folks! The server will be up again by the end of July. (Woohoo! My "first comment badge!" That's even better than playing!)

I work for an MSP too. We monitor a couple thousand servers internationally. Depending on the severity of an issue, we may even issue 30 minute updates. The standards that define our SLA's are driven by the fact that these clients are businesses, and system downtime has direct impact on their business. These services cost in excess of 5 figures a month.

ESO is an consumer grade entertainment service that costs $15 a month. We are not entitled to hourly updates from the Dev team. It's having a problem, so they took it down to fix it. It will be back up... when it's fixed.

Yeah LotR Online had a great launch but small population because of the mass amount of servers...

Ok how about this, This going to be more then X hours, check back for ETA at later point. Now that we know it at least say 4 hours or 2 hours we can make a more educated choice to what we want to do. Yes, I know the you don't want to deal with the people calling and whining. Because they read you would be up in X hours. So we have to read in between the lines and figure it out that way.
