    I think this is the exception rather than the rule. I have NEVER heard of anyone coming across an issue like this in any game I've ever played. I'm not sure it's suspicion you encountered as much as just wondering why an end game player would want a casual guild. As a former guild leader and and officer in my ESO guild, I know how important it is for the guild to be able to meet players expectations. While you can't keep everyone happy you certainly do need to be able to strike a balance. I think your experiences are less about age and more about playstyle.

    Why are you looking for a guild of "mature" players and not just people who you have fun with? Age should not be an issue (unless its a minor then it should be a family PG guild lol)

    61 and been using computer game since the mid 80's. Been playing ESO since beta. I have 9 Characters, and try to play for a hour or so every day, after I get the daily chores around the homestead done.

    I love seeing threads like this...

    I'm 42 with four sons (ages 12 to 6) and lead a very busy professional / physically active life. Some of the more cherished moments I've had so far are either with my boys in the "dude's corner" of our home or with some of my older gamer friends. I made many connections with the release of the Old Republic and keep them to this day through many years of gaming. ESO appeals to me as it fits nicely into my busy life with all the activities it offers to keep things fresh. I'm a new player on the PC but played for a year or two on PS4 beforehand.

    Speaking of which...a friend and I are playing now (not quite as ancient as I) but we are looking for a group of like-minded, mature individuals... Any guild recommendations? We are good players and are working on building our self-sufficiency with gearing and crafting.
    Characters are all some variation of Whiskey or Jiu-Jitsu...

    Well I didn't tell age was an issue, I told I would like more people of my age around me and so, why there is some "mature focus guilds"? or this thread? We can have 5 guild spots. I am playing since the beta with people of all ages, but yes, 95% are between 18 and 25 ; I have no issues and I made very good friends there ; but, sometimes, I would like to share with people of same age, same life experience, same cares ; to not feel like "the mummy" in there ; but, what I met, and what a part of the thread is telling is "mature people = fishing and casual activities" ; that is not true, and you can like to Fish, have fun etc AND run the hardest content ; but my experience (and yes, perhaps I just haven't been lucky), is that so often you're put in a "box", and cannot free from it ; that is sad, because this game is so open ; but people are not so much open minded ; from my experience anyway.

    If you are on PC NA you could join us? We are mostly casual altho guildies do run vets and trials. We have weekly events such as dolmens, WB in different zones to help people with achievements. I run dungeon farming events for things like the kitty in Karnwasten on Friday nights.

    I see what you are saying but what I'm saying is that I personally don't see age as being much of any issue anywhere or any game I've played. Perhaps I've just been lucky but all my guilds/linkshells have been filled with people from late teens to mid 60's and everyone seemed to meld great. Of course not everyone gets along with everyone and some were better friends with some than others but all in all age was never an issue for anyone.

    People of all ages enjoy all different aspects of a game. I'm met mature hard core raiders and mid teen casual achievement farmers and vice versa.

    Sure, age can be an issue. Sometimes people just want to be around other people their own age group. That's not to start a generational bashing tangent, most of the guilds I've been comprised of younger folks were fine, some were/are good.

    I agree though, I think that is less about age and more about the playstyle in that case. Sometimes taking a pause and observing how the guild really operates is a wise course of action.

    Unfortunately it is applying yet another filter to a demographic of players that are already in their own relatively small subsection.

    @solasub I hope you find what you're looking for.

    Well im 63 and retired and play a lot of ESOL. I cut my teeth on the MMORPG genre with Everquest, but quickly moved to Asherons Call IMHO the best MMORPG ever created. I played WOW and ended up loathing it with a vengance. Moved to LOTRO and being a complete Tolkein fan loved the lore and Turbines dedication to honour that legacy. Played ESOL since launch and congratulate ZOS on what is now the most polished game in the MMORPG unviverse. Something ZOS may consider from past games.
    An interesting feature Asheron's Call was a unique allegiance and fealty system that creates formal links between players and rewards cooperative play. A player of equal or lower level can swear allegiance to a player of the same or higher level, becoming a vassal of a patron. The patron earns a small percentage of bonus experience based on what the vassal makes, while the vassal is motivated to seek a patron in exchange for money, items, game knowledge or protection.
    I am pretty certain older players would be def up for being patrons. To an extent this does occur in the guild systems, but IMHO not very effectively for whatever reason.
    I can even envisage a deep wisdom system whereby CP points (or whatever replaces them), whereby players with less enthusaiasm to massacre things my wish to impart componenets of that wisdom to vassal players which could be bound into a loyalty system wherby breaking allegiance would carry some forefit

    I'm 46 or something and this thread is all sorts of rad.

    Cheers to Ye Elders!

    as far as video game players being older - I thought most people under 35 didn't even bother with video games... just the stuff they can put on a phone. The dev companies might do well to consider more laid-back and chill activities, especially with the boomers retiring. Plus they have way more money than some poor college kid that owes 281,846,837,110 dollars in student loans.

    i have! i'm only 37 but we garbage-picked one about 15 years after it released. we had to open it up and make some repairs. it didn't have remotes; the knobs were right on the console, which meant my buddy could physically assault me whenever he didn't want me to make a save. it broke again after a week so we put it back out.

    I found it depressing, too, as a 34-year-old woman who's been playing games since her Daddy showed her the Atari 2600 (Dad still games, too, he's 62) and is happily married to a gaming husband who's 47.

    My husband will be the first to tell anyone that I'm a more hardcore gamer than he is. :D And I'm just happy my late night Friday night guild auction hosting doesn't drive him crazy. And he only somewhat rolls his eyes when it's trader flip time and my crew is running around to see if we won or have to scramble up a hire. LOL

    I just fell back in love with ESO after reading this thread. I've never hit the awesome button so many times in a single thread and if I missed any you all are awesome. Gives me hope to still be in love with my favorite pastime for a few more decades. Started asking myself this year at 43 am I too old to be gaming? The answer to that question is a huge no going by you wonderful people still trucking along well past my age.

    As far as fishing, I recently started playing RDO and I really like the fishing in that as it has a little bit more depth to it. You have to actually reel in the fish and depending on the size it can be a real fight to do that. Lost many a lure trying to pull in a 17pounder lol.

    Thank you all for reminding me age is nothing but a number! Have a blessed day to all and keep on gaming!

    I am going to ask you something that I ask every single person who asks why I still game (at 34).

    Why is it only video games that are subject to this?

    Never have I seen folks have a belief that when you magically hit X adulthood age number, you will now be too old to:
    * Watch television
    * Watch movies
    * Read books
    * Build model airplanes/ships/what-have-you
    * Play sports
    * Insert LITERALLY any other hobby or pastime here

    Seriously. It feels like only video games - as a whole - are subject to this. Yes, some segments of television (aren't you a little old to watch cartoons?), movies (aren't you a little old to watch animated/kids movies), and books (aren't you a little old to be reading comics/graphic novels?) are subject to this, but never has AN ENTIRE GENRE OF ACTIVITY been subject to it like video games traditionally have been.

    I tell everyone I'll stop playing video games when they stop watching TV/movies/reading/etc.

    I will be the little old lady rocking about in a nursing home chair clutching a Playstation 20 controller in my crippled, arthritic hands giving newbies advice over the mic. And I have not one iota of guilt or shame about it.

    Neither should you.

    Agree with your entire post!

    But this bit I love. And what I think most don't think about in aging gamers is this...

    If a person has been gaming for a long time, they may naturally be less prone to some of the ailments of previous generations of aged individuals. It's been shown that playing video games help maintain activity in parts of the brain dealing with cognition, quick decision making, attention, boosting memory, etc. and combined with hand-eye coordination through use of controller/KB or whatnot means we're keeping our minds and muscles (maybe not our legs, backs, etc. lol) more active.

    So I actually believe we'll be "younger of mind" then past generations and it will show (like I think it has in this thread) that you are truly only as old as you feel!

    And most older gamer feel much younger then their age would indicate.

    Yeah, we may shuffle around the 'ol nursing home when the time comes, but I think that will just be us conserving our energy for when sit down and get into the game of choice at the time and start dropping the hammer! :smiley:

    honestly, given my personal experience at least - older people in this game ARE the average. sure I run unto people in their 20ties and thirties, but in pretty much every guild I've ever been in, including trading guilds - I'm not even remotely the oldest person on a roster, and i'm in my 40ties. its... nice :) as far as i know there are multiples of guilds specifically led by and geared towards people over 40.. over 50.. etc etc etc.

    At 48, I am pretty sure I meet the older than average criteria. For me, this game can be pretty darn casual the way it is. Questing for example can be done as fast or as slow as you like. Personally I like to read along with the voice actors and take my time with the quests.
    As for fishing. There are many ways it can be improved. One way for example, is to add a daily fishing quest. Catch X amount of Z type of fish at Y location.

    Fishing needs lures that up the chance of catching rare fish. And not the BS food buff we have now, but a real lure.

    Age is nothing more than a state of mind. One of the things I LOVE about online gaming is that you get to meet the real person. I met my best friend in WOW and we are so different had we seen each other on the street we wouldn't have looked at each other twice much less spoken. BUT we met in game, where outward appearance and age meant nothing.

    I have soooooo many friends I've met in game that I still keep in contact with, some since 2003 and FFXI. Going to see Reel Big Fish and Bowling for Soup Thursday night with a friend I met in WOW 4 years ago :)

    My character is female (like me) and (unlike me) she is very young and "hot." I recently changed up her appearance using some of the things from the crown store. I mean it when I say she is drop dead gorgeous and sexy. What I find funny is the reaction to her new appearance from male gamers (or those with male characters so far). Suddenly she has a lot of offers to group, other (male) characters hanging around to chat, offers of help and requests for help. She never got these before I changed her appearance, and my skill level or play style hasn't changed. I find it funny and think "I hope you don't think that's what I really look like..."

    The attention to my character is sometimes nice and sometimes annoying. But it's always humorous to me because, as I said in another post, I'm in my early 50s and not the young hot thing that my character represents. I suppose I could have made her old and flabby but where would be the fun in that? It is a fantasy role playing game after all.

    most of us that are older grew up (or at least matured as gamers) with the Elder Scrolls games like Arena, Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim. We have experienced the lore as it was created and have a history with the stories in these games.

    I think it’s even funnier when my hot young female character gets attention, as I am a weightlifter guy in his 50s. If they only knew...

    I don't say there is no mature community (and happily, this threat shows it up) ; I am saying that is hard to find endgame guild with older people ; or, even for other activities (because my playtime is also for questing, pledging, having fun etc), I met sadly suspicion because of my endgame activities.

    If you look on the guild announcements, there are I think 3 or 4 guilds" mature friendly", and all claim a casual gameplay. That shouldn't be an issue for me, I like all game play ; BUT (and it is my sad recent experience) I met suspicion there : "what are your goal by joining us as you are already running hard content and we cannot offer that? Humm certainly, you must have a secret evil goal like STEALING OUR PLAYERS FOR YOUR END-GAME GROUP" ; yes, that is exactly the message I received ; this guild is still announcing in the forum....
    So, for me, it seems that if you want to join mature people to share with, you must be casual ; if you enjoy having been first score EU on vCR+3 GH.... huum that's suspicious

    (Just to say : when I joined, there was MOTD asking people to be active, propose activities etc ; so I did ; as I had a free evening, I asked who would like to run a vet trial, whatever ; and ofc I asked people previous experience just to know what we could run ; I even apologized in advance "I hope it's ok, I am new and not sure about how it works here" ; when I woke up in the morning, I discovered I have been kicked and received an insulting message from the GL ; so well, sadly, I came back to my 18 old mates, who are very nice but have my daughter age.... )

    If you don't mind paying dues you should join one of the Sauce guilds, that is if you're on Xbox NA. The dues range from 5k to 20k per week. They are trading guilds but also do a lot of group activities (both scheduled and unscheduled) including trials. There are many many people who are 40+ in the various sauce guilds. It's fun with very nice people and the aspect of popular traders in good locations. Message me if you need more information.

    thank you, that's nice ; but I play on PC EU ; I just abandoned the idea after my bad experience and will focus on my own guild leading and my teen mates (perhaps once I could convince them to come fish :# I need a second Master Angler)
