I don't say there is no mature community (and happily, this threat shows it up) ; I am saying that is hard to find endgame guild with older people ; or, even for other activities (because my playtime is also for questing, pledging, having fun etc), I met sadly suspicion because of my endgame activities.
If you look on the guild announcements, there are I think 3 or 4 guilds" mature friendly", and all claim a casual gameplay. That shouldn't be an issue for me, I like all game play ; BUT (and it is my sad recent experience) I met suspicion there : "what are your goal by joining us as you are already running hard content and we cannot offer that? Humm certainly, you must have a secret evil goal like STEALING OUR PLAYERS FOR YOUR END-GAME GROUP" ; yes, that is exactly the message I received ; this guild is still announcing in the forum....
So, for me, it seems that if you want to join mature people to share with, you must be casual ; if you enjoy having been first score EU on vCR+3 GH.... huum that's suspicious
(Just to say : when I joined, there was MOTD asking people to be active, propose activities etc ; so I did ; as I had a free evening, I asked who would like to run a vet trial, whatever ; and ofc I asked people previous experience just to know what we could run ; I even apologized in advance "I hope it's ok, I am new and not sure about how it works here" ; when I woke up in the morning, I discovered I have been kicked and received an insulting message from the GL ; so well, sadly, I came back to my 18 old mates, who are very nice but have my daughter age.... )
Why are you looking for a guild of "mature" players and not just people who you have fun with? Age should not be an issue

I'm 42 with four sons (ages 12 to 6) and lead a very busy professional / physically active life. Some of the more cherished moments I've had so far are either with my boys in the "dude's corner" of our home or with some of my older gamer friends. I made many connections with the release of the Old Republic and keep them to this day through many years of gaming. ESO appeals to me as it fits nicely into my busy life with all the activities it offers to keep things fresh. I'm a new player on the PC but played for a year or two on PS4 beforehand.
Speaking of which...a friend and I are playing now (not quite as ancient as I) but we are looking for a group of like-minded, mature individuals... Any guild recommendations? We are good players and are working on building our self-sufficiency with gearing and crafting.

Well I didn't tell age was an issue, I told I would like more people of my age around me and so, why there is some "mature focus guilds"? or this thread? We can have 5 guild spots. I am playing since the beta with people of all ages, but yes, 95% are between 18 and 25 ; I have no issues and I made very good friends there ; but, sometimes, I would like to share with people of same age, same life experience, same cares ; to not feel like "the mummy" in there ; but, what I met, and what a part of the thread is telling is "mature people = fishing and casual activities" ; that is not true, and you can like to Fish, have fun etc AND run the hardest content ; but my experience (and yes, perhaps I just haven't been lucky), is that so often you're put in a "box", and cannot free from it ; that is sad, because this game is so open ; but people are not so much open minded ; from my experience anyway.

I think this is the exception rather than the rule. I have NEVER heard of anyone coming across an issue like this in any game I've ever played. I'm not sure it's suspicion you encountered as much as just wondering why an end game player would want a casual guild. As a former guild leader and and officer in my ESO guild, I know how important it is for the guild to be able to meet players expectations. While you can't keep everyone happy you certainly do need to be able to strike a balance. I think your experiences are less about age and more about playstyle.
Why are you looking for a guild of "mature" players and not just people who you have fun with? Age should not be an issue (unless its a minor then it should be a family PG guild lol)

Cheers to Ye Elders!
as far as video game players being older - I thought most people under 35 didn't even bother with video games... just the stuff they can put on a phone. The dev companies might do well to consider more laid-back and chill activities, especially with the boomers retiring. Plus they have way more money than some poor college kid that owes 281,846,837,110 dollars in student loans.
(personally, imapvp4eva)
be honest - how many of you actually played the original pong?

Well I've come to the conclusion that it's better to be kicked out than to play with people who are arseholes like those people seem to be. Who wants to play with people with narrow minds anyway? Just brush the dust off your shoes and walk on and play with people who know how to enjoy you for who you are.

I just fell back in love with ESO after reading this thread. I've never hit the awesome button so many times in a single thread and if I missed any you all are awesome. Gives me hope to still be in love with my favorite pastime for a few more decades. Started asking myself this year at 43 am I too old to be gaming? The answer to that question is a huge no going by you wonderful people still trucking along well past my age.
As far as fishing, I recently started playing RDO and I really like the fishing in that as it has a little bit more depth to it. You have to actually reel in the fish and depending on the size it can be a real fight to do that. Lost many a lure trying to pull in a 17pounder lol.
Thank you all for reminding me age is nothing but a number! Have a blessed day to all and keep on gaming!

Neither should you.

At 48, I am pretty sure I meet the older than average criteria. For me, this game can be pretty darn casual the way it is. Questing for example can be done as fast or as slow as you like. Personally I like to read along with the voice actors and take my time with the quests.
As for fishing. There are many ways it can be improved. One way for example, is to add a daily fishing quest. Catch X amount of Z type of fish at Y location.
Age is nothing more than a state of mind. One of the things I LOVE about online gaming is that you get to meet the real person. I met my best friend in WOW and we are so different had we seen each other on the street we wouldn't have looked at each other twice much less spoken. BUT we met in game, where outward appearance and age meant nothing.
I have soooooo many friends I've met in game that I still keep in contact with, some since 2003 and FFXI. Going to see Reel Big Fish and Bowling for Soup Thursday night with a friend I met in WOW 4 years ago

My character is female (like me) and (unlike me) she is very young and "hot." I recently changed up her appearance using some of the things from the crown store. I mean it when I say she is drop dead gorgeous and sexy. What I find funny is the reaction to her new appearance from male gamers (or those with male characters so far). Suddenly she has a lot of offers to group, other (male) characters hanging around to chat, offers of help and requests for help. She never got these before I changed her appearance, and my skill level or play style hasn't changed. I find it funny and think "I hope you don't think that's what I really look like..."
The attention to my character is sometimes nice and sometimes annoying. But it's always humorous to me because, as I said in another post, I'm in my early 50s and not the young hot thing that my character represents. I suppose I could have made her old and flabby but where would be the fun in that? It is a fantasy role playing game after all.
