Separate character for crafting?

I find that if you dont have plus, it can be easier to have a separate crafter or two, as they can hold onto mats not used by daily writs, saving space for your main's bag.

I have one crafter for equipment, and one for consumables, which I find works quite well.

My main does have skill maxed crafting skills, which helps with material hunting.

My equipment crafter was a char I gave up on as a main whilst levelling.

Obviously there are different ways of having a crafter, but I am really pleased how it worked out for me.

If you are levelling a new crafter, remember to have them as an orc for the additional 10 crafting skill xp.

Starting to learn crafting is a good plan. It's fun and can really help with any future alts.

It will take some time, but well worth it. With 17 alts on NA and 16 on EU, all capable of doing writs - I can generate alot of gold daily. With Hirelings mails and surveys you will also get alot of mats.

But the problem when starting is skill points. There's just not enough to max crafting and combat skills.

I started playing on NA and solved the problem by splitting crafting over 3 alts, but it's not really necessary. Last year, when I started on EU server, I had just one crafter. Orc is good for the crafting passives. She ran around all the zones collecting overland skyshards giving enough skill points for crafting skills and passives. All other alts 'fed' her with armour/weapons/glyphs etc to deconstruct, learn traits or refine.

Research will take some time, that's where an Orc is handy, so start it as soon as possible.

Have two Master Crafters - one on each server, and about half of my alts are level 50 in all the 7 crafts. I'm slowly getting the rest to craft level 50. All are researching as it improves the drop rate for Master Writs, and of course your main crafter can make level 1 items for your alts to research. I'm not too sure about leveling another Master Crafter - need 50 motifs learnt, which just too expensive.

I hope you have fun crafting.

My main is my actual crafter. She learns every recipe/motif/furniture plan etc. But, doing writs on multiple characters is also smart. The biggest difference is I don't care to have alts know expensive motifs etc, and I don't have any of them research the nirn traits at this point. All but my new necro's can do writs, and all but a total of 4 are over level 50. At level 50 you get like 4k or so per day per character not included anything you want to sell. So I can average about 50k a day if I do writs on 10 characters prior to selling off anything like gold mats or master writs or whatever else. And thats like maybe an hour of my life. I will admit that I am not super great at doing them all the time, but its an excellent and easy way to make a decent amount of gold.

Tricks for helping out your alts. Once you finish researching traits on your main crafter, they can make white gear for researching on your alts. So when I am going through a patch of working on the alts, I make sure I have one of everything in my bank and then just research whatever on the alts as I am doing my writs each day and refill when I run low. And I PvP a lot, so I just take all that random gear you get as rewards and whatever my next alt in line is for getting cloth/wood/blacksmithing up to level 50, they decon everything. Any glyphs or jewelry I get, same thing. (Unless its a piece that would sell for anything decent, then I sell it off)

I got crafting on all chars (18 in total) for crafting daylies which are like 200k-300k gold per day, but I only learn more expensive motifs on my main, as it would be a huge waste of gold to do that multiple times.

    __________________________Backstories:_________________________

Ras Kalik the Vestige, a renown Redguard warrior; He has been blessed to save Tamriel from Molag Bal’s destructive Planemeld while reuniting the Five Companions. His further accomplishments after defeating Molag Bal, has been to stop the destruction of Morrowind, the Clockwork City, return order to the isle of Summerset and create a new king in Wrothgar and a queen in Elsywer. These events have made him a living legend and continue to lead him into new adventures throughout Tamriel, as well as into the hearts of many ladies including the Elf Queen, Aryenn. Over many years of adventurous travels, Ras Kalik had become a loner, until he re-visited his homeland of Alik'r.

Alik'r and it's cities were overrun by the undead Ra-Netu and therefore he made an allegiance with Alik'r's own Ash'abah tribe. These Ash'abah with his help, cleansed the city of Sentinel in Alik'r desert and it's surrounding areas of the undead brought to life by the Withered Hand. After rescuing Sentinel from the undead zombies, King Fahara’jad’s personal bodyguard the Goliath of Hammerfell, who was given this name by Imperials in the region; was asked to assist the tribe after learning of the defeat of the Withered Hand to the Ash'abah. Kalik promised Goliath he would task him with fighting living enemies on the battlefield if he so desired. Goliath being a Yokudan warrior wields a massive sword in respect to the Ansei, a gift given by the Imperial, Cinan Tharn. Not many soldiers are able to wield double two handed weapons, but Goliath loves to get up and personal in a fight, so he also carries a giant maul, both weapons laced with magical flames.

Jux Blackheart is a master thief that masquerades as a Bard at the Sisters of the Sands inn, with his younger sidekick Lucky Hunch for pilfering and gambling during this time. Jux was known to infiltrate any towns bank vault he came across and even delved into Ayelid ruins without detection. Kalik can vividly recall the night he met the famed thief. Jux found himself rummaging thru a slightly inebriated Kalik’s pocket for too long, on a full-mooned night and because of his greed and the glimmer of his golden armor in the moonlight. He lost his left pinky fingertip as a lesson! But in return, he gained a new friend, as it was his first time since a child being caught red-handed...

Upon arrival back in the Alik'r after many moons of adventuring, Ras Kalik ventures to Bergama. Visiting The Winking Jackal, he runs into Jux Blackheart, who introduces him to the coin game Crowns vs Forebearers (Heads vs Tails) and Golden Dwemer (RBG).... Jux constantly takes gold from the unfortunate thru theft or gambling, his biggest gambling victim is actually his partner in crime known as Lucky Hunch the Gambler. Lucky doesn't mind losing any gold coins to Jux... as Jux saved him from Altmer slavers in Summerset, by stealing a key and sending him on a boat to the mainland years prior. Lucky spent years in slavery with Khajiits in Summerset and picked up the art of subterfuge, using illusion magic disguises and stealing there.

Kaotik Von’Daemon an outcast, and a half-caste between a Breton mother and a Redguard father. Kaotik become a pariah due to his conjuration of Daedra pets. He was taught healing magic during his childhood years by his Breton mother. His father due to Redguard customs exiled him from the desert, sending him by wagon caravan to be a soldier in the war in Cyrodiil. He happened to meet Kalik while traveling from Alik'r, during this long caravan ride the caravan he was in was ambushed in Bangkorai by a group of bandits. Kalik by chance was also traveling thru this area on his Auridon Warhorse (which was bestowed to him by his friend, Darien Gautier). During this ambush, Kalik was able to rescue five hostages from the bandits. Kaotik was the first rescued, and Ras Kalik also recruited him to be in the Ash'abah tribe. These core Ash'abah tribesmen may never be seen together in travel as they partake in their own adventures but they always know what each other is doing; as they frequent a hideout in northern Bankorai. Their hideout an old Orc castle ruin, is kept watch by Nuzhimeh and she passes messages written between them, and frequently they also enjoy her company and her bed.

The other men rescued were a Dunmer banker, an Imperial mercenary and two other soldiers, an Imperial and a Breton Knight, stating proudly he was an Akavir descendent. One of the Imperials, Cinan, claimed to be related to Abnur Tharn the Battlemage of the Imperial Elder Council (One of Ras Kalik's mentors in the Five Companions). Cinan Tharn was really Abnur's drunkard treasure hunting illegitimate son. He was caught smuggling artifacts out of the Ayleid ruins in Cyrodiil and the elder of the two Imperials was Tyrus Septim a retired Imperial navy battle-mage (now a Lycan mercenary living in the city of Rimmen) and guard to the Tharn family. As much as Abnur Tharn hated his half-sister Euraxia, he dislikes his bas†ard son Cinan more. Tyrus now a ruffian and privateer had been paid by Abnur Tharn to watch over Cinan as much as possible. Cinan Tharn a drunkard, loves to drink at least a quarter barrel of Nord mead before he raids various delves and dungeons for relics to sell on the black market. Cinan also plans to one day, run an illegal gambling ring... which he thinks will net him more gold for his wares.

The Dunmer captive shackled to the Imperials looked familiar to Kalik from his time in Morrowind.... and he recognized him as Tythis Andromo a House Telvanni slave-owner and banker from Vvardenfell. During a rough interrogation to Tythis, Ras Kalik learnt why the bandits accosted him. The racist Dunmer was providing slaves as soldiers for the Three Banner War. The bandits were trying to negotiate a lucrative ransom for Andromo and the Imperials.... Kalik did not need any of this gold and he could never set Tythis free as he did with the two Imperial soldiers. His past involvement with slavery and war crimes, made Kalik's blood boil. He chose not to execute Tythis, as he figured the worse punishment for this former rich and opulent slave owner, is to now be an imprisoned servant for Ras Kalik and the tribe.

Herzog Zwei the Genesis a reknown Imperial/Akavirri battle-mage. His roots going back to Akavir through his mother’s bloodline. (His mother is descended from the Akaviri, through Versidue-Shae, and his Imperial father met her in Hakoshae, while traveling) Herzog earned the nickname "the Genesis" from his father as a child, as he was his mother's first born child, and last, as she tragically died in child-birth.

Herzog was seeking to purchase an artifact from Cinan Tharn, before their capture and was meeting Tyrus while in Rimmen, who introduced him to Cinan. This artifact being the Ayelid artifact; the sword Sinweaver. After their rescue and the exchange of gold to Cinan for the sword he decided to slip away before Ras Kalik could question who he was, and why the Akavir descendant really wanted that sword. Herzog was headed to Nagastani — An Ayleid ruin in eastern Cyrodiil. He had read in scrolls that the Sword would give him magical powers to meet his mothers spirit, if he performed an Ayleid ritual at an old shrine hidden there. Equipped with the artifact sword, he was off to start his own adventure but Ras Kalik, did indeed notice the sword however and instead sent a letter to Jux Blackheart (whom also was interested in Ayleid treasures), to attempt to find Herzog and acquire the sword. (*Azani Blackheart in Elder Scroll's Oblivion is Jux's descendant some 747 years later)

And so the Redguard, Imperial and Akaviri men parted ways ... While Ras Kalik went off to Elsweyr to encounter the latest threat to Tamriel, with Abnur Tharn and Sai Sahan - - DRAGONS!! Little did Ras Kalik know a few people were awaiting him in Senchal besides Sai. A necromancer survived his attack on the Withered Hand, while in Alik'r. The necromancer known as Auriek Siet'ka is also following him to the land of the Khajiits and Cacique the Sage of Ius a Shaman mystic who has become attuned spiritually with Tu'whacca (a Redguard God) and Ius (the Animal God), after being burned severely by the escaped dragons in Elsywer, is awaiting his arrival also. Aurik is a soldier of the Daggerfall Covenant that was introduced to necromancy while in the military, even though this magicka art is not spoken of openly by most of the Military leaders. He came to Alik'r and worked with the Withered Hand before Ras Kalik intervened on their plans. After the defeat of the Withered Hand, he aligned with the Worm Cult, and is constantly adapting and perfecting his necromantic arts.

After his journey to Rimmen, Kalik heads south to Senchal, in the southern regions of Elyswer. This new adventure will also put him on a path to meet a strange Redguard man. The stranger which was infected with an untreated Peyrite disease and also was the exiled from the Order of the New Moon cult, due to his sickness. He originally joined the cult to worship Laatvulon, the green dragon, mistakenly thinking it was the Daedric prince Peyrite. This confused and suffering cultist is known as Tsar al-Bomba and he is on a path to spread the disease. He was originally infected in Orccrest while recruiting members there. Can Ras Kalik and the shaman Cacique cure this poor soul, only time will tell. Little does Tsar al-Bomba know, that his infection is tied to Vampirism, and eventually the desire for blood will take over his mind. Senchal also offers Kalik his latest love interest... Aeliah. Whom he fondly led thru battles with the Dragonguard.

After the trek thru the heat, tropical and desert climate of Northern and Southern Elyswer, Ras Kalik heads north to the cold mountain range of Skyrim. His companion friend Lyris beckons for him with a letter sent by crow...

Movárth Piquine - a former vampire hunter (now infected), within the Fighter's Guild (and a secretive necromancer) was in Skyrim working with the Morthaal Guard. On a patrol mission he was caught in Frewien's ice curse outside of Morthaal with the frozen undead. Movárth's vampiric infection kept him from becoming an undead minion to the curse. He was able to use necromantic ice-magic to encase himself safely until he was freed with Freiwen, when the Vestige Ras Kalik broke the curse.

Uri Ice-Heart - brother of Urfon Ice-Heart. The twin sons of Atli and Oljourn Ice-Heart. The Ice-Heart family are originally from Markarth but now reside on the Jerall Mountain range near Cyrodiil, with their younger sister Araki. The twins had joined the Winterborn Reachmen while living in Markarth. Urfon pushed west to Orsinium with the Winterborn Clan, leaving his family behind. Uri stayed behind with his parents and sister to live in the family cabin for safety, avoiding the Vampire plague infiltrating the Reach. After news reaches him and he hears of Urfon's death... Uri leaves and heads home and is seeking vengeance. Meanwhile, his sister has also moved on to Windhelm to join the Fighter's guild. He will visit his sister, once before going to seek vengeance and she will craft him armor mixed with ice, called Stalhrim armor. Uri fearing death, after his brother's passing, falls victim to the convincing talk of Movárth at a Nordic tavern, and will also becomes a vampire.

    It's your call, really.
I do everything with my main.
Fyi, there's enough skill points available in the base game.

    Yes, there are.
The upside of spreading crafting out is having a greater access to skill points for combat related skills sooner.

Conversely, it takes a little more time after learning everything on an ACCOUNT to then learn all that stuff on particular 'toons.

I initially planned to do this when the game launched, but managing that really sucked. No I do almost everything on my main, though a lot of alts are max in everything. They don't know many motifs though and only a few know some purple recipes (to increase master writ chances).

I have found it to be tedious to do all on one. Gathering skyshards is tedious to do it all continuously on one character.

I prefer to split it up. You can gather a fair amount withtout to much effort. It's easy enough to create and alt and make them a crafter of food and medicine. Esp after the aniversary event that i upped my toons on each server from 4 to 8 to make sure i got all those crafting bonuses and gathered up all those resources.

Sure my main toon will get there but i am not waiting for that day or making it my focus. there's other things i'd like to do than focus on all of that at once.

You can use multiple characters for researches to save on bank space, but ultimately you want a single character that knows everything. If you're just starting out you can have Char 1 research Jewelry, Blacksmith Weapons, Staves, and Clothing while Char 2 research Blacksmith Armor, Leather, and Bow & Shield. Once your main guy runs out of stuff to research, the second character can craft what they know to research on your main. This way your bank/mules aren't being flooded by items waiting to be researched.

Lol that's too much work hahaha the game have more than enough skill points to do everything with 1 character 😆

I have one main that I designate is the crafter from the get go. That way all new scrolls/recipes from other characters go through him first. He handles all the decon and all the trait learning. At the start I will flip back and forth between the two, leveling both because the crafter needs to get to level 50 as much as my main does.

On my main on each account. If you have a toon just for crafting, you have to do something about skill points: quest, run after skyshards, whatever - or you won't have the points to level up the crafting when you need to. I have a friend who's in that position and having to rethink. I wound up there myself in RIFT, so deliberately did NOT go there in this game.

    It's up to you, really.

My main is also a main crafter. Main in that it can craft at any station and it is the one that learns the motifs and recipes. My other crafters get the left-overs. My reason for having one character be a main crafter is for achievements- that character is also my main achievement toon. It does the content first and it has every skyshard in the game.

All of my other characters will, at least, get level 50 in alchemy so they can craft potions and get that particular good alchemy passive that makes your potion buff last longer.

I also have a second crafter that can craft at any station. Most of my vet toons are level 50 most crafts, with a fewer number being level 50 in enchanting. Only 2 are level 50 in jewelry.

Basically: For achievements, do it all (content to crafting) on one character. Other characters can continue to learn traits and whatnot if you want. If you do not care about achievements, then please disregard my input. :D

I raise crafting on all my alts, but I am more than a bit of an altoholic.

It is hard to level crafting well then, but not much worse than doing so on my main, who is the most advanced and only a skill point or 3 away from maxing all crafting points.

Your best crafter is likely to invest over 100 skill points in craft skills. Ideally, they'll also have enough skill points left over for an easy combat build that lets them farm nodes, use survey maps, and so on.

It's personal preference whether that should be your main character or an alternate. I've done it both ways, sort of, in that my main crafter was my main, transitioned into alt-dom, and now is more of a main again due to racial passive changes.

I have a system for that. While I usually do writs on multiple characters, I send all the survey maps I get to my crafter. Every week (give or take) I look through her surveys, and whichever zone she has the most for, I send to, and that zone becomes her "base" for the week (or however long it takes for her to clear it). While she's there she does her writs everyday and at my leisure will head out to complete a map or 2, and grab whatever overland skyshards are along the way. Once she's done all the maps and gotten all the overland skyshards I send her to whatever zone her maps take her to next.

I ignore the delve skyshards as they take longer and I get more than enough so far just doing overland. But the delves are there for next time she's in the if she needs them.

One main crafter, maxing all the crafting skill lines, researching all traits and learning all the motifs.

That being said, I have the important traits (like divine armors, infused weapons, etc) researched on all my alts for easier transmutations, and not in rush but over the time I have them reach max level in crafting skills to do daily crafting writs with them too (obviously with the minimal necessary skill point investment)

I prefer my main do all the crafting, but it's handy to have crafting alt or two that at least has the skills so you can do the daily crafting writs on them. That generates a little extra gold, rarer crafting mats, and master writs.

I've tried both but I prefer having a dedicated crafter. The 3 main reasons are:

    1) I didn't like splitting skill points. I know eventually you get enough for everything but I prefer focused characters.

    2) I don't have ESO+ so having a character whose inventory I can fill with materials is a big help.

    3) He almost never leaves town and can drop whatever else he's doing to go back when I want to craft stuff. I like to take my time exploring and have limited time so a delve or something will be split across multiple play sessions and having to wait until I'm done to do any crafting, or having to leave and come back would be really annoying.

If you decide to split professions, you should make absolutely sure to have the triad Blacksmithing, Clothing, and Woodworking on only one character, and that one will be learning all the style motifs - for the master writs. That is vital, imho.

After that, it's about preference, although I found it more than possible and most convenient to do everything on my main. There are more than enough skillpoints to go around. Esp. if you're questing.
