It's a necromancer. End of story.

To be less of a vague (word I shouldn't say), the class is almost exactly what you'd expect from an undead based class in the game. You can summon skeletons, wraiths, and flesh atronachs. You can reuse the corpses around you to your advantage. You have abilities like a flaming skull, armor made of bones, and multi-resurrection of allies. The class for magicka balances all three elements fairly well, the stamina versions of morphs focus on disease and poison, and the healer abilities have pros and cons, as should be expected. It's not going to suit everyone, as to each is their own. But god damn do I enjoy it thoroughly. I love turning into a bone colossus when I feel pressured as if it's my ultimate form. I love raising minions to attack and aid me, and then using their corpses to gain ultimate. The animations are cool, the skills overall are great, and there's just that touch of lore realism when you use certain skills, and the guards or NPCs react to it. I'm sure that, as per usual, I'm in the small minority with how I feel about the class, but I've enjoyed almost every single bit of it.

I don't think you are small minority in your feelings.

Everything. 😁 The archer and wraith you summon is really cool. Also like the idea they desummon. That was really the only thing that got on my nerves about sorcerers and wardens. The pets always getting in my way when trying to loot stuff.

Only problem I have is I keep thinking the archer is a player with the Cadaverous Assassin polymorph. More then once I was like why does this creep keep following me around.

I enjoy the fact we can't summon a simple zombie.

I also particularly like the part where we don't have a skill line in said class about summoning/buffing your summons like every other necromancer NPC in the game. (They legit have a tether that lets them buff their bois)

    Simple zombie: Skeletal Mage/Archer

    Buffing summons: Empowering grasp

Whether you like the implementation is one thing, but they're there nonetheless.

    As for the topic:

I enjoy the aesthetics of the class more than any other, although DK is a close second. However, what I enjoy the most are how strong and unique it feels. It receives a lot of slack for being similar to the warden (mostly from a pvp perspective), but honestly, that's far from the truth and with such a simple generalization the only alternatives were being another DK (dot class) or Stam sorc (nearly zero class identity). What I love the most about blastbones over shalks, as a timed burst skill, is that it's a fire and forget skill. Its reliability is a bit annoying since the pathing needs fixing, but I've also enjoyed killing players by a slow blastbones that comes jumping in for the kill (its buggy nature is a double-edged sword).

I like that it has it's own animation set for skills. Animations in general are really well done.

The only thing I hate is the mystic siphon. The purple/black tether needs more transparency. Right now it looks like someone drew a black line in MS paint and does not resemble the shock element at all.

In PvE overland and for dungeons it's a great class. It works best in group.

In PvP it's good for zerg surfing only. In 1v1 or other solo battles, it's toast. Mechanics of the class are too clunky to take any pressure and survivability is really bad. The only oh *** button puts a debuff on you, which doesn't make sense. Healing ghost doesn't last long enough (I'd rather they doubled the cost but left it at 18 seconds for the intensive mender). Damage is ok(ISH) but I still struggle to get kills with 3k spell damage and 12k penetration (in ideal fully buffed, fully debuffed enemy) <- any advice on that part would be much appreciated.

Overall 8/10 - hoping for some buffs and changes in the future.

It's new and the ultimate spam, that is about it. While I will get some flack for this, but it doesn't really feel like a Necro. Sure you can summon a skeleton, but even that is underwhelming and bland and the corpse mechanic looks and feels gimmicky. From a pure numbers and "is it good" standpoint, it is fine, not great(outside of select balancing issues), but not terrible.

...Maybe I'm just being overly grumpy due to being sleepy, but 5/10 personally as I don't see the hype around it.

...the way you have to be sneaky about when or where you cast some of your spells!

my fave part is that necro overperforms all dps classes so its next nerfhammer draws close...oh this one can already hear them scream! such delight!

As BrooksP says, it's not what I would consider a Necromancer class to be, possibly it's more of a Death Knight... That said, what I like about the class is it's just about unkillable, and it's only if my attention slips that my character dies.

If the (very) transient skeletal minions continued to exist as long as they were killing things, essentially stealing energy to keep going, I would be more than happy. After 5 seconds of no kills they could just fade away. It wouldn't really affect gameplay but would somehow fit the theme better to me.

Last I checked skeletons aren't zombies. Lol.
