They already said they can’t do flying or diving. It’s a limitation that goes to the very core of the game engine. There isn’t a vertical axis like that. They’ve explained it better in interviews, I can’t find them right now.

i actually didn't know this. very informative.

how isn't there a vertical axis? we have different heights already, and even different places on the same X/Y position but on different heights (or Z)

Water EXPLORATION would have been fine, but fighting underwater is not immersive in my opinion, especially with the types of weapons and abilities this game was built around. Swinging a sword underwater (or a staff for that matter) is an impossible feat, which is even more silly to consider for a bow-based character. Immersion aside, I don't think the game engine has the capability and it would likely be a waste of time and resources to break apart the whole engine just to add a small feature like this which most would probably end up hating in the long run.

As far as underwater races though, there are a few in the game already: the Dreugh (while incapable of speech, are a semi-intelligent race), the Sload, Nereids, and Lamias (amphibious).

The under water parts of GW2 are beautiful but the combat is slow and borrrrring

Rather ZoS devs focus on other things

Kinda dislike the underwater thing. I have a hard enough time keeping my head above water while not swimming.

The game barely functions as it is. I doubt it could handle another aspect to it. I would say check out Subnautica, if you haven't already. The whole game is underwater. It's amazing.

So you are telling me, they cheaped out on the engine so hard, their 2014 game cant do stuff wow was able to pull of in 2004?

No, but most games with underwater content do have it and the topic title specifically refers to underwater content. What would you like to see with diving and would it justify the investment in providing it? If it were just diving to see the weeds on the sea bed and a few shipwrecks with no mobs to interact with it would be pretty bland.

I loved the underwater zones in WoW and RIFT. The combat wasn't hard (for me - though it was for some people). But the engine won't handle it as I understand.

I dont know why, but I always loved underwater worlds. Thats one of the Reasons Argonians were always my favorite Elder Scrolls race, because they usually come with underwater breathing, allowing you to really take in the beauty of the underwater areas.

Explore sunken ships, maybe even discover a new race of underwater Creatures...

LOL ESO engine cannot handle water. ever wonder why the whole damn game is knee deep? its kind of like the design concept make it big vast and shallow.

Exactly. because they used a heavily moded hero for its core.

GW2 did underwater combat reasonably well, and the game had some lovely underwater environments. That said, you barely got to see them because they swarmed with tons of trash mobs that could attack you from any direction. Half the tine, it was hard to tell what attacked you. If swimming/aquatic stuff could be some cool scenery or relaxing off the coast sightseeing, I'd be for it. Underwater combat, though, is a lot less fun than it sounds.

Can you imagine ZOS adding anything to the game that doesn't involve combat? I mean core gaming functions, not housing.

I can't, sadly, even though underwater tourism could be awesome.
