Is anyone else hoping that one expansion will introduce diving and underwater content?

I dont know why, but I always loved underwater worlds. Thats one of the Reasons Argonians were always my favorite Elder Scrolls race, because they usually come with underwater breathing, allowing you to really take in the beauty of the underwater areas.

Explore sunken ships, maybe even discover a new race of underwater Creatures...

ESO is arcade with ton of artificial limitations and thus not very immersive. I understood that when I tried to swim around Bleakrock at my first hour of playing this game. Adding underwater swimming to ALL water will help a lot.

GW2 did it well, but it uses separate skill bars entirely. WoW did it poorly, with ground targeting issues on the usual skills they kept from overland. Don't think that underwater combat would be helpful for ESO, or a good way to spend dev time.

I don't understand this infatuation with the idea of underwater stuff,. Same goes for mounted combat.

More substantial content would be nice (melee magicka weapon). There is also plenty of locations in Tamriel we have yet to visit, before resorting to diving into the sea.

You must have never played Daggerfall then. It was freaking awesome. Unless you wore heavy plate male. Then you basically couldn't move and drowned. :p

@Davor no, my first Scrolls was Morrowind. Been tempted to go back and see how it all started, though!

It's great. Mind you the graphics will take some time to get use too. Just need to remember, like Morrowind that was cutting edge graphics and technology that wasn't seen in any other game for it's time.

Then again, Don't. It has spell making and what a great system it was in Arena and Daggerfall.

Does Bethesda still give out Arena and Daggerfall for free? I bought Battlespire on GOG, so I can have Arena and Daggerfall and not worry about getting it to run.

I love underwater stuff in games, it's the one thing I really miss in this one. It would also nearly double the area for adding content. All the large deep lakes and coastal ocean areas could be utilized. Missed opportunity IMO.

Don't know why you loved this in TES games. Most of the water in Skyrim was knee deep, Oblivion was pretty much the same and if you found the helm just off the coast, Argonians were pretty much redundant for what little water exploration there was. Can't really recall any Bethesda game with water exploration.

Edit: I see someone above mentioned Daggerfall. Daggerfall is one of 3 games that I have literally never been able to finish due to game breaking bugs. The other 2 were STALKER: Clear Skies and Alpha Protocol.

I'm not a Khajiit and I don't hate water, but that was the closest you had to an "other" option. As much as I'd love to see it, the mechanics in the game simply don't allow it, so they'd have to revamp every other zone in the game in order to implement it, which just isn't feasible.

Adding ships and sea combat would be a pretty “lit”, actually.

I still can't understand why people want that underwater thing? Why is that so appealing? What is so special about being underwater that it keep on popping up every month?

I don't expect it to happen, due to what looks like some pretty major limitations of the current system, but underwater challenges adds a whole new depth (ha ha) to exploration, and it was something I enjoyed in Daggerfall and later.

Unfortunately, I do not forsee this changing; I had experienced a glitch early in my days where I fell "through" the water and was able to run around on the ground below, and there wasn't much to it. I expect if we could actually swim through those areas, it's likely we would encounter more severe bugs. Look at single-player exploits that speedrunners utilize in various games, after all. It would take some serious devtime allocation to ensure a newly-implemented physics system was solid.

I am pretty sure Zos has said it is not happening long ago. I think it may have to do with a limitation of the engine but that could be my old mind playin tricks on me.

Diving/underwater similar to mounted combat always turns out gimmicky and an annoyance. GW2 did an alright job with it, but even then most avoided it.

To be fair, it's alternate months - the other months it's flying that pops up.

FF reborn didn't have swimming at the start. IIRC, you couldn't even swim in small streams, etc. I always love being able to swim. One of my favorite things to do in WoW was just go seal form on my druid and get lost exploring underwater areas... something fun and soothing about it.
I don't really expect ESO to get it, and I'm grateful we can swim in rivers/lakes/oceans at least, but I wouldn't turn my nose up at diving/underwater content.
I'd take it a thousand times over compared to flying mounts.

They already said they can’t do flying or diving. It’s a limitation that goes to the very core of the game engine. There isn’t a vertical axis like that. They’ve explained it better in interviews, I can’t find them right now.

i know it might sound silly to some people but i LOVE underwater swimming, its so very relaxing. ESO could benefit from it. take out your clothes in a nice beach, go swim around finding little things and treasures around. I'm defonitely for it, although I doubt it can be added by now.
