Wondering which monster set to use and their procs

I just hit CP 160 and was looking at different sets. I'm using a MagSorc DPS build and mainly use liquid lightning and elemental blockade with a lightning staff. I have a flame staff on my back bar.

I was considering Ilambris and am aware that they can proc separately for lightning and flames but because I don't use flames as often I'm not sure if it's worth it.

I was also considering Skoria but wasn't sure is the aforementioned abilities along with thunderous rage and bats as my ultimates would counts as DOT to proc it.

I was checking out other sets like thunderbugs carapace and burning spellweave because I could get jewelry and a staff to complete another set but I don't know if there are any staffs worth using rather than completing a second set.

Just looking for answers about the Skoria proc and advice about which sets to use

Zaan is the tops. Better chance to proc than with Valkyn Skoria as its 20% with either light or heavy attacks

I've run Skoria on a magblade, but fire-based. The blockade should proc it as should liquid lightning, but the 8% makes it a little unpredictable. But it has a shorter cooldown than Zaan

Ilambris used to be the go-to for magic builds. Its not bad, but these two are favored over it. I think its just fine and is very consistent.

The thing is, all three are situational. Some may work better in stack fights, while others are more effective against a moving target.

One thing, don't use Thunderbug for a magsorc DPS unless you plan on lone-wolfing everything. BSW is awesome, but that 5th piece is irrelevant for a shock build. For me, I like the IA and Moondancer/Spell Strat/Mother's Sorrow combo, again, depending on the situation. My base combo is IA + Spell Strat. IA's heavy attack buff and elemental blockade work well together.

Ilambris is definitely not worth it if you don’t proc both sides. Zaan is best if you are close enough to use it. Otherwise, I’ve been having good luck with mixing two different 1pc Spell Crit sets.

You can put on a flame glyph on one of the staves (ideally infused) and get the flame portion of Illambris to proc consistently. It's not the best monster set around but I still like it on my magsorc for the AOE dmg and pretty visual effects.

Blockade and Liquid Lightning should proc Skoria rather reliably, but if you want something easier to proc you can go with Zaan or Grothdarr. Illambris only you can proc both effects (like double fire staves, liquid and pets should take care of lighting). Just take note that both Skoria and Grothdarr need to stand in 7m range..

Along with that, your backbar should have the Infused Inferno staff with Spell Damage equipped, so that should be down all day. I use Ilambris on my sorc, and love it..and get both procs rather often.

On Mag Sorc, dont over think it. In PVE, you hit the obvious ones. Ilambris is a great set. Fire blockade and Liquid Lighting will keep it proc'ed (double fire is BIS DPS for the most part). Zaan is generally BIS if you can stay melee for most of the fight. Skoria is nice if you are feeling a bit squishy with the health buff. Maw is also a solid option, especially if you like being a one man zerg. For progression runs, Iceheart is also a very strong option.

In PVP, I have been running Bloodspawn lately. Now that shields get resist values, i really think it's hard to beat as an all around open world set.

I think Grothdar is trash fights, especially on my MagSorc when I take people on SR runs. It just melts enemy adds in the radius. People have also covered the other ones. Sometimes it'll be nice to use Mighty Chudan if you need Major Ward/Resolve up 100% and also the extra Resistance (like vBRP).

I think what you should take away from all these messages is that there is not one monster set you should have on for the rest of your characters playing time. Monster sets, like regular body sets, will be swapped depending on the content/fight you are in. But as you just got CP 160, I'd recommend going with Valkyn Soria.....it'll give a nice little HP boost and the extra damage proc it does is nice too.
