To be more specific with your question, are these builds you are referring to PvP or PvE?

Medium is getting more and more populare in PvP.

And for pve 7 medium for the most critt rating possible.

I meant for there pvp builds because there more variability. I got my pve down pretty much running relequen and advancing hitting 43k.

But pvp I run fury and ravaging for cyro and veild and ravaging for bgs.

PvP: dodge rolls, wep dmg passive, more critt and faster movement. With some race/gear combinations are nearly unstoppable in the right hands

Alcast builds are not really the way to go for PvP cheese builds. He is great for PvE though.

Dottz has both types of builds last I checked. He had it that way forever.

I haven't checked Dottz since the patch, but the build I have been running for over a year is the basis for the heavy armor build he has. I just tried it in BGs last night, and it is just about unusable. The decimation of Wings is a MASSIVE blow to "attrition" style builds, as stamDKs simply do not have meaningful defenses against against ranged spam while we wait for DoTs to proc, which by the way take even longer now. There is simply no viable way for a stamDK to play a heavy armor bleed build now, when there is a ton of ranged users in the mix.

So the focus shifts to "burst bleed" and medium armor. You aren't really any less survivable in Medium compared to Heavy (getting gibbed in three seconds compared to four) and you need to be able to burst as much as possible, because patience, planning, and waiting is going to get you killed now.

CP is a crutch for people who can’t sustain and want to be "tanky" so they aren’t immediately punished for making mistakes.

Alcast' medium build been up for months now. And I've been rocking similar DoT medium build even longer. AFAIK he's just theorycrafting back then and found something that works and stick with it.

    Dottz always had 2 flavour.

That aside, yes, Med got some buff I think in Elswyr, while Heavy is sort of as feasible as before...

... it's just Wings that got changed and Wing+Heavy seems to be BiS for PvP stamDK. Now people are scrambling for new options.

Personally I just couldn't stand tanking build in PvP :(

Wings still gives a lot of damage mitigation though I feel like it could still work.

Different playstyles. Heavy is more defensive tanky and medium is more offensive.
Looking for any guildies I used to play with:
    Havoc Warhammer - Alair
LoC EQ2 - Mayi and Iskiab
PRX and Tabula Rasa - Rift - Iskiab
Or anyone else I used to play games with in guilds I’ve forgotten

Lol just dont play alcast Pvp builds, its not even close to what hes good at. All the footage for his "pvp builds" are from mashing potatoes in low mmr bgs.

Hmmm maybe they just felt like playing medium. No need to start screaming and jumping of the meta ship just yet. FFS.

For real cp PvP 2h/snb heavy armor builds are still the best for stamdk, basically a fury, seventh legion, bloodspawn build. For no cp just replace fury with veiled heritance. Those are the got-to sets for stamdk. Wings actually was and is not that great on stamdk, since their playstyle is more about healing that trying to protect from incoming damage. If you still get pressured too much, you can start blocking. Also your magicka pool is very important for the other utility skills like volatile armor and obsidian shield.

Surely medium armor works, but in most cases heavy armor hast more benefits for stamdks (better healing, better magsustain, more mitigation, etc). Also the increased weapon damage from medium armor is kind of offset by the fact that sets like fury, veiled heritance or seventh legion provide more weapon damage than medium armor sets. So reduced costs and more crits are the benefits of medium armor. Reduced costs tough is counterintuitive when you use cost reductions glyphs and crit can be obtained with flames of oblivion.
