Edit:
Hopefully ZOS will eventually relocate the chests to behind the door to the final boss and allow perfected gear to drop in those chests since that would require both dragons to be defeated first.

I know how it affected me. I wanted to actually do the trial. Everybody else wanted to farm gear without earning it. That meant I didn't get to run the trial.
Better question is why was it bad for the game. Answer is the game depends on a certain level of content being repeated. Taking shortcuts for full armor sets is bad for the long term health of the game thus bad for all playing the game.
It was an exploit just like jumping to fungal grotto for random daily rewards was an exploit and I am glad they are gone.and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."6 -

Neither is a solution. First assumes I was joining chest run groups. I was not. 2nd assumes there was players available and willing to run Sunspire other than a chest farming group. Other players often were not available as everybody was scrambling to get into a chest farm. Even more so a problem when in guild trying to get a vet run going. Now that the exploit is no longer available joining pugs for normal and starting a group in guild for a vet run is much easier to accomplish.
