Achievements linked to account instead of character

First of all, i'm an mmorpg veteran. I've played many mmorpg (WOW since vanilla stopped after wotlk, GW, FF14 and ESO).

What i like is doing every possible achievement as i believe they are the true game reward (titles, pets, mounts, skins, ...)

Atm ESO don't have achievement linked to account as other mmorpg propose.

Since, I'm not the kinda of person to do all achievements on every character (I have a life i don't have infinite free time), i can't play effectively with my other characters.

So, I'm playing most of the time with my main character and my other characters are taking dust standing there with no purpose or meaning.

I would like to continue the adventure with my other toons without starting all the achievement farm again. in fact, there are tons of them and no one can possibly get them all on 1 character (So on many alt that's nearly impossible).

I really encourage Zenimax to do this quality of life change, this shouldn't be a hard task technically speaking.

Also, I think this should help in 2 ways:
  1. Keep the player base active as they can continue the adventure using other classes and skills
  2. Keep trials and dungeons diversity
  3. Prevent any future issues with each buffs and nerfs to classes as player can just swap and play the class they believe is in a good spot

Please no trolls or taunt and keep this thread healthy

I have the same problem. 33k+ Achievement Points on my main character, who is a Magplar Healer.
I am always low-key praying that my healpartner in my raidgroup volunteers to switch to his sorc or warden when we go for trials achievements where one healer has to be a different class than a templar for group optimization.

At a minimum, I'd really like to see achievement furnishing purchases unlocked account-wide. When you've earned some achievements on one toon and others on another, it's frustrating to go to an achievement vendor and not be able to buy a furnishing not because you haven't earned it, but because you're on a different toon from the one with the relevant achievement. These items can't be traded or sold to others, housing is shared regardless, and even those furnishings can be used and moved by my other toons once purchased, so this doesn't have any game-related impact. It just makes me spend more time and effort to get something I've already earned the right to purchase, or it makes me less likely to buy something if the related achievement is on a toon I don't play regularly.

Pursuant to my previous post about unlocking achievement furnishings account-wide, dyes already become unlocked account-wide once unlocked by a single toon's achievement, so there's comparable code already in the game to do something like this.

Funny you should ask! On reddit about 9 hours, ESO's creative director stated, "We don't currently have any plans to implement account wide achievements."

It is a highly requested feature but ZOS have continually and consistently been opposed to it. I do not think they have ever gone into detail about why they are opposed.

    So want this too

Achievements are done by the player not the character, after all
This is, in fact, my main reason for not wanting to switch character, even though I regret my initial choice years ago

And, yes, I know the points don't actually do anything for me, but I've always tried to get as close to 100% game completion, even in the days before achievements was a thing - Personality flaw :D

The creative director says that they don't have currently plans for this. Maybe in few weeks (years?) we'll see something done.

I realy think this is an easy task as they don't need to manage multiple data tables for achievements per account. Instead only one data table will be managed. Maybe that will slightly improve performance too.

They should create a new panel called Character Feats, where all the Titles are stored, they are character bound.

Then have all achievements account wide. It is pretty tedious trying to farm skins on the same character.

Not to mention the new system of mementos, ive already accidentally started consuming the Plague Fabric Memento items on an alt. It should be account wide.

The only exceptions to this might be

Public Dungeon Group Boss - A skill point is attached to them
PVP ranks - A skill point is attached to them

Have those under Character Feats but they do not have a title. Just a skill point.

As for Undaunted achievements, they give huge amounts of XP and Undaunted XP. The problem is, by the time you get these achievements you're already level 10 undaunted. If they were account wide, for each you unlock, you gain 1%+ more undaunted XP, then leveling alts in undaunted would benefit.

Either way, 99% of the achievement tab should be account wide with due regard for titles and various things like that which should instead make their way to a new Character specific tab.

The problem I see with this is having the achievement unlocked for a character of a role you didn't clear the content with, for example I have the Fang Lair challenger achievement on my DPS main, the collectible unlocked with this is account wide, which prevents the needless grind. Not having the achievement itself unlocked on my other toons however, makes sense to me as I haven't actually completed said challenger achievement with it, it would be dishonest of me to show a completed Fang Lair challenger achievement on my tank for instance when the roles require a different play style.

the collectible is the reward tied to the achievement, the achievement itself is merely proof of me clearing it on a specific toon. I can wear for example the vSS skin on my healer but I cant link my DPS achievement clear on it. I like the way the system is atm, allows people to enjoy a tangible reward for effort they put in but doesn't allow them to easily *** people about things they haven't done like account wide achievements would.

petty insults and parroting of another user above aside. No, linking an achievement from another of your toons isn't bad as long as it is explicitly clear that it was done on a another toon, if that's what was being argued for then fine, account wide achievement progress listed with the toon(s) (and the role used in that achievement if relevant) that unlocked them would be alright.

I really don't think it would be fair to people who have ground all achievements by changing role and perfecting all areas of gameplay on a single character to make them account wide. Achievements really mean nothing in-game apart from achievement, so I'm not sure why anybody cares.

Simple. If you want to play an alt, you actively feel bad that you're not playing your main.

"Why am I wasting time with this when I could just be getting credit for it on my main?"

As much as I dislike mentioning another MMO, WoW actually implemented accountwide achievments well.
Most achievments there are accountwide, showing as unlocked on all your characters, but if you click them for more information you see which character you unlocked it on. You can also still unlock them on different characters for that satisfying pop up.

A few are strictly character only and others are account wide only, meaning all your characters add progress to that one. Those ones are usually very big like loot 2 million gold in total.

And the titles never should be, as those are ALL awarded for -completing content-!
Makes no sense at all if a character straight out of the tutorial rocks some title for content they are not even near completing...

    Nope. Not a one.
There are some achievements that help keep track of content locked behins some collection... like the orsinium museum, the vvardenfell tomb rubbings, the CWC precursor parts, the summerset thieves caches, the murkmire tablets or the elsweyr reliefs... but even if the achievements were account wide, you'd still have to collect these on each alt (without the achievements telling you which you already did)
Same as skyshards, really... there are achievements for hunting down skyshards, but the skill points come with collecting the shards, not with the achievement.

Now THAT is a valid point, and a good one to make!!!

    So, my personal opinion is...
...that the achievewments themselves should remain as they are now, character-bound...

...but that we ought to get an "account overview" page to our character selection screen where we can see which character done what and when. And all dye unlocks, pets, costumes or outfit pieces should be unlocked from there, leaving only titles to the individual characters. While furniture purchases ALSO should look towards the overview...

...and then... they could add more rewards for multiple achievement completions! Like, "do master provisioner for every alliance, get the old "chef" costume", or "finish the mainstory for every race, get the mannimarco costume again - for the outfit system" or "beat molag bal with every class, get the soul shriven skin without having to hunt for it in IC"...

And finally, they could add the same for achievements then they did for skyshards - sell them as convenience crown store unlock.
Because that IS what all the whining about it will make them consider. Just like all the whining about account wide skyshards led to the recently released purchasable collections.

OP, I would be fine with having an account-wide overview tab where you can see all achievements you've gotten across characters.

But I like having character-based achievements as we have now, as it encourages me to play my alts for things that my main has already achieved.

I'm the opposite. I'm like "I already got this achievement on my main, so I'm going to bring an alt this time around".

In fact, I go down my character list to work on certain achievements, like the Daedric Generals or the 1000 chests looted.

Tbh this would all be solved if we had a job system like FFXIV where we could switch to whatever class we wanted to and thus only need 1 character

I would prefer having different characters, because they each have their traits and personalities. From what I hear, FFXIV is not atl-friendly at all.
