Am I right in thinking this is one of the better tanking sets?

Got five different pieces today...

It is one of the better tanking sets, and is ideal for trials tanking, since the total health gain is improved with 12 players. Its okay in dungeons, just less necessary because its only 4 players.

Do be aware that there's a recurring bug with the weapons/shield that can cause your group's health bars to drop and refill when you bar-swap, so armor pieces or jewelry is ideal.

It's alright. Considered BIS for raids since every bit counts for the super fragile pve dpsers but for normal veteran dungeons the measly 1100 health doesn't contribute much.

    pretty much this.

if you like the red orbs, cool, go for it.

but in general the set is not that great, and you give up a lot of other great 5 piece bonuses.

as stated the super fragile super end game parse peeps don't like investing in survivability and tend to require the tank wear this. everyone else tends to have enough hp, and if they don't, the 1k from ebon is not going to save them.

if you like it, go for it.
if you don't, its fine there is better.

Today with Mara, Ebon, Skoria and Minor toughness I had 23k HP with zero points/glyphs spent oh health. Nuff said.

Overall ebon is agreeable set for dungeons, something like a flag for tank to carry showing that you are not selfish or fake but overall not so useful if your dps are not super squishy.

For trials it's obviously must have, though if ZOS will deliver stamina version of Mara, ebon will probably become useless.

As a main DPS and sometimes dungeon healer, I love it when tanks wear Ebon. My Sorc DPS gains over 1600 health from an Ebon tank, which means I’m able to shift more into Magicka for higher damage. My healer likes the extra reaction time to heal low-health group members, and this set often saved them from one-shots.

It’s definitely the best set for trials. And for dungeons I’d argue that Ebon + Yolnaakriin is hard to beat.

Its an useful set to help out the glass cannons or people haven’t got all the passives unlocked yet as group utility goes. There are better options for self health boost.

It is pretty dang nice. There's a lot of hidden damage in a 12 person health boost. Not the best selfish tank set up ofc but eehhhh i'sfine.

Essential for every tank to at least have the Ebon body pieces. Even if you don’t use it all the time, every tank worth his salt should at least have it in their inventory as you will be using it for a lot of content.

Yeah I’ll give Ebon/Yol a go. I would like to try Yol with Torugs though, you’d be a deadset supporting machine.

Why are you all saying that it's best for trials but not for dungeons? It's not like the total amount of health gained for the whole group is going to help a single player more, where the buff ends up anyway in the end. He'll still have the same bonus, no matter how many other player's getting it. Sure, in trials you have more support set options since you're more people in there, but that doesn't take away the net efficiency on the single player. Which is where the buff matters.

The whole upside with ebon is that you're getting a little survival boost, and I've personally seen so many DDs recover from under 1k health many times. Both in dungeons and trials.

Its best for trials, not dungeons because Trials groups are often organized, meaning people can plan on the tank bringing that extra 1k health buff and thus better min-max for their own role. That's also why you see so much emphasis on building different support roles for Trials groups. Its more efficient for Tanks and Healers to provide those powerful group buffs and you get more bang for your buck with 12 people. Most dungeon runs aren't that organized nor is it necessary to min-max, and some dungeons, depending on the group and experience of the tank, may even be better tanked with purely "selfish" set-ups where the tank focuses of staying alive rather than buffing the group. Plus, many DDs don't min-max for dungeons unless they run with a regular group.

Now, there are always exceptions to the rule. I run Ebon even in group dungeons because I run with a IRL friend who likes to play a min-maxed glass cannon and our regular healer likes having the extra health bonus on him. And since I PUG a fair bit, I figure it doesn't hurt to make it obvious that I'm a real tank. Fake tanks don't show up with red orbs :)

So the real answer is: Ebon Armory gets better the more organized your group is, and its a very efficient use of resources in a 12-person trial team.

I have all armour for my five pieces.

Thanks for the input guys. Good to know that I have something for trials night in my guild now.
