Painting drop rates in chests

I've been thinking on going for a chest hunt for rare paintings that I've seen people sell for high prices on zone chat, my only question is what zones drop rare paintings and are there any perks and passives that increase the chances?

There is a CP perk (Treasure Hunter) that increases chest drop rates, but I'm not sure if it affects paintings.

But you're better off just farming mats and selling than hunting paintings. Treasure chest farming is painfully inefficient.

I've got so many paintings.... in the year I've played, I've wound up with about 150 of them. But then.... I tend to open EVERYTHING....

Yeah I can understand the drop rates are so low but I feel like trying for a bit, just need to know what zones drop them since they seem to be different for each zone

Most paintings aren't worth much; they sell for a couple of hundred gold (if that).

There are some rare painting that are found in chests in Summerset and Vvardenfell. Those can sell for hundreds of thousands in gold.

I wish basic zones had painting variety in chests or something to add to it.

Eh, I'm not interested in selling them. For one thing, I refuse to hawk in zone chat; and for the other thing, I refuse to buy into the gimped "guild market" system in this game.

I'll use them eventually. And I don't care about "rare".

Seems like I'll go months without finding any, then out of the blue, I'll get four or five in a row.

    Gotta love RNG...(Or, not..)

OH so true! Though RNGeezus in this game is far FAR kinder to me than in either wow or RIFT!

Paintings are Epic-level, So yes the Treasure Hunter perk will increase the find rate.
That said, I think that ZOS have dropped the rate, as I seem to have had less than the thousands that I normally get.

Not sure about prices, I normally sell mine 200-400gp as that is what my MM data tells me.

They are not rare, by any means.

Yeah those from the chapters are the ones I was thinking of, thank you!

Good luck finding the vvardenfell paintings, ive amassed hundreds of BA motifs and found only one Telvanni painting in all that time and i would estimate (conservatively) that ive opened around 20k chests.

Now that I've read the questions. And the answers.

Vvardenfell and Summerset are the zones.
Treasure Hunter is the CP passive. 75 points.

Does it help to know that all paintings had an original recommended price of 395? Not 100.

    Try pocket-picking.
I'll get '6' of the same item in 60 to 90 minutes around the plaza in front of the Vulkhel Guard bank, and then get '6' of a completely different item in a similar area in Wayrest over 60 to 90 minutes, on the same 'toon.

RNG is very selective for a model that is supposed to be random, claims of 'anecdotal evidence are useless' be damned.

Somebody has a thumb-on-the-scale written into the formulaic code, somewhere, and while it may be random on a limited basis in given areas, it sure aint random over the collection of similar areas.

    :*

The problem with society these days is that no one drinks from the skulls of their enemies anymore.
