But you're better off just farming mats and selling than hunting paintings. Treasure chest farming is painfully inefficient.

Most paintings aren't worth much; they sell for a couple of hundred gold (if that).
There are some rare painting that are found in chests in Summerset and Vvardenfell. Those can sell for hundreds of thousands in gold.
