Sorc Tanking Vet Depths of Malatar and Frostvault

Acquired Wrathstone Delver achieve.

Posting this so any other classes that have doubts or are told they need to be a DK to tank vet DLCs. Granted there are many wise players that know and post this already, just here to reinforce :]

PUG Group Composition:
Sorc tank
Sorc mag DPS
Unknown PVP player
Templar heals

My PUG attempts: not a recommended approach, around 8-9

Sorc Tank build:
Breton, Vampire Stage 4
Sets: Lord Warden, Ebon Armory, Willow's Path
Mundus: The Apprentice (magicka recovery)
Food: Tristat
Potions: Tristat
Enchants: Prismatic Defence all armor pieces, magicka recovery necklace, stamina recovery rings.
Health 38k on Frost staff, remaining points to Stamina
Traits: infused, sturdy, divine armor mix, defending weapons, triune jewelry
Skills: absorb magic, unstable clanfear, restraining prison, silver leash, boundless storm, empowered ward, pierce armor, heroic slash, inner fire, temporal guard ult (not used, on frost staff for additional mitigation, aggessive warhorn ult)

Keys to success:
1) PUGing and wiping a lot. Not fun. Aka, learning mechanics. Because you can be a DK tank with OP skills but without knowing mechanics you die just as quickly. Maybe not as quickly, but you get the point.
2) Sorc mag DPS knowing mechanics hard and providing calls. Trial raid leader type, gave me a rating of 8 as a tank. Helluva complement imo. Most likely +40k DPS.
3) Positive attitudes even during Protector bugs.

Other helpful factors:
1) 3 of 4 group members on comms
2) All group members 810cp.

There's no reason to force a DK tank in any dungeon content. Especially if you're not looking to go crazy on dmg and push timers, etc.

DK tank is just the strongest tank in the game, period.

My first 2 years of tanking was a sorc, magicka based and we would just 3 dps everything, even the DLC content at the time (WGT and ICP ((before nerfs))). Heck ,my first vmol complete was on this toon.

HOWEVER, DK tank is just crazy strong.

Last time I did this, it was with a guildmate from my trial guild, a healer found in zone, and a Group Finder CP 360+ DK tank. Interestingly, besides me, the only one to know the mechanics was the tank, and he did a very good job. We wiped a lot on the lasers (Some instances of the boss letting the laser through ...) but the group composition was very good, steady dps etc... Eventually we completed this, it was the first clear for everyone but me, the tank previously didn't pass the boss.

It was all about the mechanics. A DK leaves room for more mistakes. You can tank any content provided you're good enough, it's just easier on a DK. Sorcerers have group utility too, just not exactly in the same department.

Quite sure you could use the new monster set stonekeeper for almost as much sustain as a DK while blocking

I always preferred Stamplar to StamDK for tanking just for the quality of life mechanics it has like Repentance, Major Protection on Sweep, Minor Protection on your pulling AOE, etc. But since they are killing Major Protection for pretty much all stambuilds, I just don't feel like doing it any more.

Stamsorc is a seriously underrated tank too that is ridiculously fun to use and has GREAT QoL benefits (love mine). I missed if you said you were Stam or Magsorc.

CP is a crutch for people who can’t sustain and want to be "tanky" so they aren’t immediately punished for making mistakes.
