Loot boxes might be banned (in the US) so what do you think Zeni will do if they have to pull their loot crates?

They'll probably just add all the stuff to the crown store and up the prices to make up for it. I don't really like crown crates as it's such a gamble but I don't have an issue with them in ESO since nothing in them really gives an advantage. It's mostly all cosmetic stuff.

The legislation that has been proposed in the US related to games that are available to minors (children), so it would not impact ESO which is explicitly not for kids.

It's also worth noting that the legislation has not yet passed.

i always wondered why Elder Scrolls is rated M. The game is tame in comparison to other M rated games. i think a hard T rating (like Obilvion launched with) is what they should be rated.

It'll be interesting to see if other countries will follow suit.
As far as I know Belgium has outlawed them but the rest of the EU hasn't. Maybe if they are banned then Zos will have to move their headquarters. Maybe to their office in Ireland will be the new one. Oooh maybe EU servers will get more attention, oh a man can dream

They will do what most anti crown crate activists haven't given a second thought about, sell everything for ridiculous high amounts of crowns while laughing saying, you thought you were going to get everything for 2500 crowns? Bah Haha hah!

Now you know exactly what you are buying and how much it costs and it ain't gonna be as low as these people seem to think. Not even close. Careful what you wish for.

I understand the problems with loot crates re: gambling issues, minors, folks with executive functioning disorders, etc. But I also think rolling the dice is fun.

I think the best solution might be to simply raise the floor on what you get from a crate. Make the "minimum value" of a crate just a little bit higher.

In the case of ESO crown crates, maybe keep the same drop rates except write it so that every crate drops at least two blue/superior or better. It retains the fun of gambling, but even if you don't hit it big, you still haven't "lost." That way, even if you don't get anything great, you've won something worth having spent real money on. Two blue plus two whites is at least a minimally decent crate - a minimum value.

It could be marketed as buying "Two superior or better rewards, plus two or three other great prizes!" As opposed to now, which is sort of "Roll the dice, and hope Pacrooti doesn't just give you a bunch of crown lethal potions."

Combined with the ability to exchange things for grown gems, I think that's fair and that it would also probably survive any legislation which might actually have a chance of getting passed.

loot crates are definitely the scam of the decade, i'm surprised they've lasted as long as they have. The alternative is of course making every item from a crate cost ridiculous amounts of crowns (a skin for 40 gems is now 2000 crowns). The dream situation would be somehow incorporating everything from crown crates into the game already. IE mounts of a certain theme have small chances to drop from dungeons of a similar thing (storm atro mounts have a tiny % to drop from vTempest hm etc) and thus have more in game rewards for hard content. But people already whine about the hard content rewards we have now, so it'll probably just go into the crown store for hundreds of dollars.

all this is without mentioning that the 1) proposed bill (hasn't passed yet) that 2) is for games targeted towards children in 3) the united states probably 4) won't pass or be a thing ofr a while yet anyways.

i'd rather spend 2000 crowns to 100% get a skin/mount vs spending 5000k crowns for a chance to get the mount.

SO this is like...the third post about this...(I guess search feature is broken?)....there are people that want to re-evalulate the definition of "gambling". As it stands right now, if there is no currency with intrinsic value involved, if the user cannot make a profit from the house, then it is not gambling. You are simply paying for an in game service or item. The value of said items has no MSRP or real world value, since they can only be used in that game.

It's like paying $15 for a subscription with the "promise" of getting to level 50 within 4 weeks...then it doesn't happen, then blaming ZOS and asking for your money back because it was a scam, and you didn't get to level 50 in 4 weeks.

ESO is rated M for content not crown store sales. The crown store, let alone the crates, did not even exist when the game was rated.

The key word in the OP is "might be". We also do not know exactly how it will be worded or it's effect. It may just require certain parameters once it is said and done and passes.

I’ve never bought a crate, so I don’t care in the slightest if ZOS keeps them or doesn’t. Some people seem to like them, and their gambling helps cover my freeloading a**, so gamble on!

If and when. Just cause it gets put infront of legislators doesn't mean it will pass or not. Plus, if anything, it may fail, due to many indie games use LB/Crates to fund their games with cosmetics. In the end, it will probably get tagged on to another bill as a regulation few years down the road which can introduce harsher penalties for having LB/Crates, which in the end for indie game makers versus big companies that can eat costs.

Careful what you wish for, you just might get it.

Based on the little bit of information available the legislation is pointed at P2W loot crates in free games targeting minors. Since the loot crates in ESO are not P2W I don't see them being affected by any change in the law.

I strongly support loot crates. Buying them is voluntary and everything in them is either cosmetic or convenience items, nothing that is Pay-to-Win.

Yeah, they shouldn't do crappy, slimy things like putting separate motif pages (Pyandonian), but other than that crates are fine.

I like most the things I’ve received from crates and I like having gems to spend as I see fit.

I earn my money and I choose what I do with it - and not that it’s any of your business - but I don’t buy them to get a mount or whatever. Mount is lucky. Not a given. I’m the one in this conversation who can manage her expectations.

You’re the one trying to tell other people how to live their lives.

Maybe you need to worry about your own house, before you consider taking on mine.

I really hope they are banned. I won't feel quite as dirty giving them my sub money knowing those repulsive boxes are gone. The list of things I'd buy outright is long, I have never and will never buy a lootcrate.

RNG = Really No Goodstuff in my case. If I get a crown crate I'll open it. But I'm not gonna buy any. 400 crowns for a box of potions and riding lessons I don't need is not good value.

I would rather spend my crowns on something that I want and know I will get. I can buy a Lake Xanmir House and know I will get a Lake Xanmir House, not some random house or furnishing piece that I have no interest in.

I've never understood the concept of farming. If stuff doesn't drop, why spend time doing it when there is fun stuff to be done? I remember back in the days of guild wars a friend showed me a great farming run for some item, forget what. He had 200 at the end of the run and I had 2. Seriously. Waste of time.

BUT: I am not going to make laws to say you can't buy crown crates if you like wasting money that way. Nor tell you not to go farming for stuff that may only drop the 53rd time you do the run. You have your choices. I have mine. Let's respect that.
