Faction lock should never have been removed.
The arguments presented by those who oppose the alliance lock aren't good enough and not realistic.

Firstly, let’s consider this: 30 days campaigns are the most popular and players will continue to go there. Even players who are disappointed by faction lock will tend to grudgingly go there because they do not expect to find enough action on the other campaigns. So saying that there is a choice is hypocrisy.

This means faction lock is being forced on everyone, whether we enjoy playing for a faction or not. Until now, faction loyalists could play for their factions and others could play for their other objectives.

Faction loyalists have been asking for faction locked campaigns. It’s difficult to understand why they want everyone else to play the same way as they do, but if they want campaigns where they can be among themselves, that’s ok as long as there are also campaigns without faction lock. This is not what is being offered in this update, if it goes live as currently described.

The faction lock as currently announced will not achieve what faction loyalists hope for: since other players will be more or less forced to play in the locked campaigns there will be many players in those campaigns who will not care about the score and will pursue other objectives.

A solution that has been mentioned in many threads is soft locks: be able to play on all sides but be on the leatherboards only on one.

This is extremely disappointing for many of us as ESO players, gamers (who might consider other games) and as customers (who might unsubscribe, not play, not visit the crown store etc).

Also I believe this will not help ESO compete for the player base against other games. Versatility has always been ESO’s strength.

The faction lock is to minimise the AP farming keep flippers who spend all day ball zerging the map Red, then log in to another toon and flip it Blue, then log again and turn it Yellow. It is aimed at making the 3 banners war.... the 3 banners war and mean something, not the 1 zerg war that rotates alliances steam rolling the few playing solo/ small group.

If you want to AP farm play the 7 day, if you want a war, make a contribution or get glory, play 30 day faction locked.

Just give us Faction change tokens then I can put all my toons on 1 alliance

You actually think it's the same people that play all night, morning and day to constantly relog to flip the map a different colour? I have no idea how it is on other platforms, but I'm fairly certain that's not the case on Sotha PC-EU.
I play all factions but during prime time I play my main faction. When I play as the other factions it's usually when they are being trampled by pvdoor zerg from my main faction, it's not to surf the winning side, it's more about getting some good larger scale fights. Sadly not enough do the same, and faction lock will do nothing to combat the pvdoor zerg during off hours, most people log off when they are outnumbered 5 to 1, or at least give up on trying to defend.
I'd much rather see a dynamic population lock than a faction lock, even with the potential problems that would bring.

I've only made AD characters because I kind of expected something like that to happen eventually. Did you know some guilds don't allow their members to have characters in other alliances and even to be part of other guilds?

There is still low duration campaigns if you want guild runs and playing with friends, but for long term commitment, people should stick to their main faction.

I dont like the idea of an Alliance locked campaign, because i like to play with all my chars in the same campaign...
BECAUSE i wanted to differentiate, i have chars in all alliances and i didnt care much about cyrodiil...UNTIL i had to farm transmute stones this way...and now this is cut in half...

my SOLUTION would be, to let us change the alliances of the chars (for free this time!), with that happening, i have no problem with allance locked campaigns

Just came across 2 AD griefing questers inside a building... The Covenant players being shown their locations in stealth by a traitor Covenant. Stuff like that is what makes me glad there is going to faction lock. Because those little fairies are going to have make a choice to not play at all together in the same team if they want to play together or be penalized. I'm all for it.

Why would faction lock stop these behaviors? It obviously won't.

If it goes live it will just severely restrict the choices that we have, the opportunities to find good fights, to play with friends, to switch to underdog factions, etc

    Good Fights will always happen.

People's friendships are not my business, so I'm very unconcerned.

You can switch factions anytime you like, it costs AP.

Its actually the right decision. If people can't see that then the whole point of pvp in this game is lost on you.

Here is why it is the absolute wrong decision.

Faction locking hasn't been a thing for YEARS now. As more and more players enter the game they have not been concerned with what faction their character belongs to. They made a character and played the game.

Now you are saying "hey remember when faction didn't matter. Guess what it matters now." By the way. Faction change does not exist.

I have 14 characters spread across all 3 factions. Most of them have 100's ( even 1000's) or hours of play time. I am not going to start deleting characters to remake them for the proper faction that I am now going to be locked in to in order to PVP.

Any race any faction? Bit too late for that now.

    So.

If you want faction locking that's fine BUT...

    BUT..

    BUT...

I want the ability to change my characters faction. Not some crown store item. But I Want a token that lets my EP characters switch to the AD (or DC) faction.

Faction change FIRST. Then you can lock the factions to your hearts content.

    OR

Make it so that the faction lock is account wide and ANY character on that account (regardless of the character origin faction) can play in that campaign.

    OR

Well. There are several other very good and very reasonable solutions. All of which are 100% better than "we are locking factions, deal with it."

That's how it was in the past. The way it's planned now you won't be able to switch with AP - you will be stuck with a faction even if the two other factions are driven to their gates and there is nothing to do.

I play on the faction that's constantly gated.

    I'm not worried.

Faction locking hasn't been a thing for YEARS now. As more and more players enter the game they have not been concerned with what faction their character belongs to. They made a character and played the game.

And many of us have waited for faction locks to come back.
Now you are saying "hey remember when faction didn't matter. Guess what it matters now." By the way. Faction change does not exist.

It didn't matter to you and those who agree with you, it mattered to many who stayed loyal.

Faction locks were a thing before they weren't a thing, now they're a thing again. You write people off then act like a bloody victim.
I have 14 characters spread across all 3 factions. Most of them have 100's ( even 1000's) or hours of play time. I am not going to start deleting characters to remake them for the proper faction that I am now going to be locked in to in order to PVP.

One Tamriel does not include Cyrodiil.

You have it, but you refuse to do it. Rerolling is faction changing.

    OR

Make it so that the faction lock is account wide and ANY character on that account (regardless of the character origin faction) can play in that campaign.

Indeed, players need to faction change via reroll first.
    OR

Well. There are several other very good and very reasonablesolutions. All of which are 100% better than "we are locking factions, deal with it."

This is typical code for "the way I see fit" or "my way or the highway".

Faction locking does not fix population imbalances.

Faction locking does not stop overnight capping.

Faction locking does not stop spying.

Faction locking is not going to make anyone care about the campaign.

Faction locking is not going to stop zerging.

Faction locking is not going to stop the server lag.

Thanks for saying this clearly. And yes, faction lock is not only not going to fix any of these things, but rather could make several of them worse. For example, it has the potential to encourage even more zerging that will cause even worse lag.

You are saying that the arguments against it aren't good enough and not realistic. But where are good arguments for it? There is no reason to implement faction locks into the game. It only limits gameplay and forces us to sit and wait in a 30 min Queue to join a faction that is completely full, leaving us just with zergs of our own alliance around us so we can't actually fight anything. Please explain me why there is a faction lock needed.

Why are you and your friends not on the same alliance?

This game released with faction lock and it was fine then so give a valid reason to not faction lock campaigns

Becaus i met my friends after I made my main toon and many of my ep alts. Because when my ep friends are not playing and I get invited to play DC or ad, I gladly join. Because limiting the possibility to have fun with different people to protect nothing is a chimp mentality.

Remember, there's plenty of us who swap factions to the losing side to try to balance things because we don't care about end of camp rewards, but we DO care about not gating and doing things that will ruin PvP for everyone.

The great & wonderful lock is coming and not even Lord Sheogorath himself can stop it, in fact he will introduce Weapon Artifact mechanic in Cyrodiil instead :)

There are many benefits from such a lock as others have already mentioned.
    Less treason, faction swapping etc.
Many players(me included) have asked for this lock for a long time.
Some videos I recorded for fun: Main character:
PC EU main: Universe - AD magicka Sorcerer, Former Emperor, Grand Overlord, The Merciless, Trial Bosses Solo Champion
Top alts: Genius(stamina/sagicka Dragonknight) The Force(stamina Nightblade) and other chars.
PC NA main: The Magic - AD magicka Sorcerer

Yesterday we had someone pick up a scroll from our own faction just so they could hand it off to their friends in their home faction.

People can say whatever they like, but faction lock makes sense to prevent abusing it.
Looking for any guildies I used to play with:

LoC EQ2 - Mayi and Iskiab

Flag campaign as AD only receive AP and rewards on AD characters and so on. If you go there on other alliance to play with friends or have good fights, so be it. But be rewarded only for contributing to the alliance you chose at the beginning of the campaign. If you don't care about alliance you fight for and the outcome of your actions, why should you be rewarded Alliance Points? Be rewarded by the fun you 're having while playing.

    Everyone is happy...

Now I'd like to hear all those "I go there to play with friends only" and their opinion.

    Agreed.

There is no argument against this. If people only want to play with friends, or only want good PvP, the AP shouldn't be their focus. If they want AP, it should only be applied to their flagged faction for that campaign.
