I'd like to see something a little different than just another skill slot on the bar.

Maybe something like a single "passive skill slot", where you can place one of those many "gain X stat while slotted" abilities just for the passive effect but without the ability to activate the ability.

    Something more unique like that.

Nightblades get a special effect if slotted, not great but useful.

Yep. As well as every other class, and multiple other skill lines. The following is a list of most (all?) skill lines that this "passive skill slot" could be used for, either due to a Passive in the skill line or a "on slot" effect specific to one of the abilities in the skill line:
    • Dragon Knight - Ardent Flame, Draconic Power
    • Nightblade - Siphoning, Shadow, and Assassination
    • Sorcerer - Daedric Summoning in particular, or ANY Sorcerer class ability due to Storm Calling's Expert Mage passive.
    • Templar - Aedric Spear
    • Warden - Animal Companions, Green Balance, and Winter's Embrace
    • Weapon - One Hand and Shield
    • World - Soul Magic and Werewolf
    • Guild - Fighter's Guild, Mage's Guild, and Psijic Order
    • Alliance War - Support

Having a "passive skill slot", where you could place abilities on your bar solely to activate passive effects, would allow some of the less-often used "on slot" passives see more use without hindering a build's active ability potential. As a plus, it'd also allow Stamina builds to use ultimates other than Flawless Dawnbreaker without feeling like they're gimping themselves (it gives 8% Weapon Damage, between it's on-slot effect and the Fighter's Guild "Slayer" passive).

I love all those comments about choices when the meta is heavy in a game with so many skill lines.

No lads. 5 abilities are easy to play with. It's just that we get more skill lines available to all classes and archtypes.
Since there are so many more tools available, it is time for one more ability slot.
And everybody can adapt to progress.
