ZOS: Indriks' Feet still do not connect to Sloped Ground

Seriously ZOS, your team said you "fixed" this in the Wrathstone patch notes, but they obviously weren't fixed. They're still running around everywhere popping wheelies on Live. Just to be thorough, I took these screenshots this morning on the Elsweyr PTS server.

What really happened with the Wrathstone "fix" for this issue was the Nascent Indrik's animations were marginally improved, but still not truly fixed, and the animations for the 4 upgraded indrik mounts weren't even touched.

This issue is very easy to replicate: 1. Mount any Indrik mount. 2. Run up and down sloped and varying terrain (unless an eye exam is required, the issue should be evident at this point). 3. If a comparison is needed, now mount a horse and do the same test. (Note how the horse's feet always land exactly on any terrain, even if sloped. Compare to how Indriks' always have either their front or back legs hovering high in the air.)

Indrik's are the top-tier prize of all of the various events, so it has very high visibility for players. Players have spent quite a bit of time unlocking them, so they should be bug-free. For their animations to still be this bad makes the entire system seem farcical and unpolished, especially given how hard players have tried to bring this continuing issue to your attention.

Still looks so terrible on ps4 I can’t even use the mounts. Also when in sprint, it tilts side to side. No other mount does that.

Oh yeah, I fully agree. I've unlocked all of the available ones so far and they all do it. I wish I could use them as they're such unique mounts and take a bit of dedication to unlock, but when moving they just look so derpy that they're an embarrassment.

I haven't seen this or any of the wobbling in game. Does it have anything to do with the foot kinematics or whatever it's called?

I haven't seen this or any of the wobbling in game. Does it have anything to do with the foot kinematics or whatever it's called?

While the Inverse Foot Kinematics can be used to cover up the issue, that's just tossing a bandaid on it rather than addressing the root cause of the issue. If you have the Inverse Foot Kinematics enabled, you wouldn't be seeing the problem because it's deforming (stretching, lengthening, and/or bending) their legs to force them to touch the ground. For those wanting to play with the setting, it's found under Settings > Gameplay and is the first setting there.

That's not the proper solution as all mounts should be aligning their vertical axis perpendicular to any given slope by default. No other mounts in ESO need to turn on inverse foot kinematics to generally align with the terrain. Turn it off and run around on a horse; see how they still look great and don't need it. The purpose of inverse foot kinematics is to take that basic alignment and make it look a little more natural. But there are reasons why that setting is turned off by default. It's a resource intensive setting. Plus it can cause lots of (usually funny and entertaining) issues of foot misalignment.

No, the problem needs to be addressed at its Root cause (pun very intended). The Root of any NPC's (including mounts) mesh component is going to be at the intersection of where it's Vertical Axis is going to intersect with the ground. Where it would intersect with the ground can be described as a line drawn between its feet (we'll call that it's Horizontal Axis here). All NPCs generally have an invisible, spherical Collision Component attached to let it know when it is hit by anything, like in combat, but also to tell it when it hits the ground. For the purposes of how they align with the ground, imagine that they have an extra, invisible leg pushing downwards from their midpoint; if it pushes down too far, it throws them off alignment.

This bug appears to be caused by Indriks' spherical Collision Component being a touch too low, with it's base extending down below it's Horizontal Axis (defined as a line drawn between its feet). That is what's pushing it up, causing it to always rock forwards or backwards or wobble side-to-side.

Here's a diagram/mock-up I made to visualize the problem (note I don't really know how big the collision component, I'm just guessing to help with the illustration)

    RaX5dY1.jpg

If the base of the Collision Component were aligned properly with a line drawn from their feet (Horizontal Axis), then that line would always align with the Terrain Slope (whatever it might be at the point where their Vertical Axis intersects with it). Instead, because their Collision Component is pushed down to low, it's causing their rocking/leaning, as shown in the pic. Note how the Indrik shown is leaning back; it's aligned with the terrain slope based off of a line drawn from it's collision component and back feet, with it's front feet raised up.

This is a lot of wordy over-description on my part to help visualize the bug, but the solution is super simple: Raise their Collision Component up so that it's base is aligned with their feet. In the illustration above, the farther up the Collision Component is raised, the closer the blue line (Horizontal Axis) and red line (Terrain Slope) become. Once it's in the right position, those two lines will be the same line.
