Event PVP: Was this an exploit or no?

DISCLAIMER: I despise PVP. I despise it because no one, ever, in the history of gaming has ever been able to control "greifers" and bad behavior disguised as "play".

That said, like many, many "tourists" who do not PVP, I went to the holy grail of Cyrodil this week, to get my boxes. First time there. Pretty place. Expected to die every second, but as I was there and stumbled into "dailies", and started doing those, it took awhile for someone, somewhere in the boonies to jump me. Shrug it off, learn the spawn and transit system.

So on day two, in Bruma, in what I think is a quest giver house, upon entering, I am immediately killed by what I later learn from those who know such things, as persistent AOE from a group of opposing faction players, although I hesitate to call them players because why insult the term players?

Anyway. some said it was an exploit, some said it was just your ordinary grief-er , and of course some said "git gud", as if bad spelling was somehow an antidote to anything.

I don't really care about getting grief-ed, after the second time and learning, I stayed away from the house. But, which is it? Exploit or what?

well, in the sewers it was complained about that for a time when you would load in through the laddars they would kill you before you got a chance to even do anything because of lagg, you would load in dead.
they eventually fixed it to where u were safe for a short period upon loading, sounds like something similar is happening with that house but, i dont know how it could be reportable, kinda of a grey area, just like years ago they had that mistake where people could load to the other alliances safe zone, and they were killing people that were afk, they came out and called it a "grey area"

you are in a WAR ZONE where literally all kinds underhanded despicable behavior is possible; being a WAR ZONE you should educate and prepare yourself for anything goes after all everything is fair in love and WAR...

disclaimer: I neither condone or participate in such behavior but I understand what a PvP Zone means i.e. YOU WILL DIE.

    Happy Gaming :)

It's not so much an exploit as it's just poor design. They could honestly have made the inside of the houses where it gives a full immunity buff for everyone that enters regardless of faction.

true story @VvardeFellow - around each keep located in cyrodiil there are 4 resources (lumber mill, mine, farm)...each resource contains a small building with a fire and sometimes the siege merchant, and a large tower close to the guarded alliance flag...

that 3 floor tower used to have "doors" on the outside of the tower...you would need to "pass" through the door to enter into the first floor of the tower...as you passed through it would take your character a second or two to "materialize"...

during that time you were completely vulnerable...

I once spent an hour in one of the towers fighting off an opposing alliance trying to kill us all and clear the tower...

back then nightblades and dragonknights could use ambush and dragon leap to gap close to the second floor of the tower...that's how they were finally able to get us - the bodies would stack at times next to the front door...

it could get really crazy having 20 to 30 people fighting inside a tower at times, with siege equipment being used...

I know, I was just kidding...it's sad cuz people still do camp those quest houses for that same reason - as you phase into the structure, you're character is extremely vulnerable for a second or two - enough time for someone(s) to be able to bring you down before you can even react...

does getting ganked in IC is an exploit?
    no
i have been ganked many times in IC.
my cyro play is limited but in IC its a gank fest.

u come across gankers every 10 min prime time
So sitting inside a house and farming pve is not healthy and its same non healthy as ganking in IC
    so there u have u r answer

But seriously, the term "Cyrodiil tourist" needs to die. There is no touring Cyrodiil. You either go there to kill or be killed. You are just fooling yourself if you think otherwise.

Git Gud...j/k. Every game has people who feel the need to take unintended advantages of mechanics in order to be good and some do it because they are terrible humans in general. Dont let them bother you and take comfort that they probably reached their peak achievement in their life and its likely the only thing they are good at is pvping in a video game. Instead, maybe you should feel sorry for them, because their life is obviously so pathetic that such actions are enjoyable or fun.

They also took the doors off of keeps for exactly the same reason.

Farming players who are immobilized from entering a door is most certainly an exploit, and I've been reporting all players I've come across doing so as exploiters.

Can we stop pretending that killing players 6v1 as they zone into a building is PvP? It's taking advantage of game mechanics to defeat players who can't fight back, and it's pathetic. It's like walking into a daycare, smacking around the toddlers there, and then bragging about your fighting skills.

Agreed, especially when there are some fun and easy solutions.

Easy solution would be to set those buildings as a peaceful area, like the respawn zones in IC that put a blue aura on people. At the very least, they need to turn off siege from being placeable in those little buildings.

The fun solution would be to make those buildings seigeable from the outside. People want to go inside and troll? Ok, but let us burn the whole thing down from the outside. Of course, to avoid another type of trolling with this idea, when those buildings are destroyed, the questgivers normally inside will need to stand off to the side until it is rebuilt, so they are still present.

Seriously? I know pvp isn't everyone's cup of tea but this seems rediculous. Are they just supposed to stand there and wait for you to shoot first before reacting? You might as well call animation canceling exploiting. Sure it's an unintended quirk but you play they game you have... There's a reason a big group trying to chase down a few other players has to be very careful about following them into building. That's part of what makes it so the zerg doesn't always win and the game more dynamic. It's about getting the other guy to fight in your aoe. I'm no good at pvo myself, but I enjoy it and am trying to get better.

It's exploitative even if it might not be considered an "exploit". Killing someone before their screen is even clear and they have no way to react is exploiting the transition/load.
Zone usually warns if people are camping doors. Don't feed 'em and they get tired of waiting to PvLoad eventually and come out for actual PvP. :)

Eh. The person who's there to collect Skyshards, or go fishing, or just see the scenery. Who has 100% no intention of fighting other players... I'd call them a "tourist".

(That's the only way or reason that I'd ever enter Cyro. Back in WoW, when I had to enter a PvP area for a PvE reason - or accidentally flagged while near a rabid pvper - I'd just /sit passively. To remove any sense of enjoyment or 'achievement' from the dude punching me. Go ahead and kill me, but I'm not going to give you any actual "PvP" /shrug)

But yeah, targeting people in a spot you know they can't fight back because of 'load lag' is cheezy as hell. Feel proud of your l33t pvp skillz, dudes. Later, you can go outside an step on ants to prove your mastery over nature. /eyeroll

edit: there's a reason that many zone-loaded online games have a protection that triggers when you load into a new area, until you actually move or attack. To stop silliness like this.

I am sorry that you are going through this, but that is why this event was splitted between mostly pve centered crafting world bosses dailies and maybe like 10% pvp at the end... with that said there was plenty to go around to complain about it now. But honestly they should not keep quest givers inside structures to avoid this type of scenario... even tho that the outcome will stay the same you will still get killed and farmed for ap, why? because this is pvp and this happens every year... get used to it.
