What are the chances of not getting an inferno maelstrom staff after 60ish runs?

Just luck. I have does maelstrom less than 10 times, I only wanted the snb but I got an infused inferno staff and a bow in them runs, my luck is usually terrible.

Still looking for the bow :)
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

I am not skilled enough for vMA yet but when I am I will probably get the inferno staff immediately. Why? Because I prefer the lightning staff and my inferno (on my double destruction staff magblade) is my backup that hardly gets used. I suppose these weapons are bound like everything else good?

Unfortunately you're probably correct. Just make a wish for the opposite

In my experience, the chances of not getting what you came for are well above average ...

The probability of NOT getting an inferno staff on your first run is 93.75% The probability of this occuring 60 times is 2.08% so you're pretty unlucky.

I don't really see the harm in a token system for vMA tbh.

I think there are 11 different drops from vMA (3 destros, 1 resto, 3 2Hs, DW, 2 S/B combos, and a bow). The chance of not getting an inferno after 60 drops mathematically is about 0.33%. This assumes each one has equal chance to drop.

Exactly...I'm reposting something from a different thread because it relates directly to this discussion.

    <<<<>>>>>>

out of 116 runs I got 10 inferno staffs which is about 9%, but that includes some leader board and double drops so I don't have an exact percent on just single chest drops/run.

On weighted drops...we do know that weighted drop system is used in the game, lots of examples of "rare" drops meaning some items have a lower weighted chance to drop. We assume, but do not know if equal weighting is used for VMA. When people say that's "RNG" I think this is referring to an assumed equal probability system and you just have bad luck.

On RNG, this stands for Random Number Generator which is interesting because the sequence of numbers produced by an RNG is anything but random it has random like patterns but it is actually a generator sequence of numbers based on an algorithm from a starting seed. Eventually these sequences repeat themselves. This assumes RNG theory hasn't changed in recent past.

Each one of us may have different seeds thusly creating our own set of random numbers and our sequence may have far fewer numbers (or even no numbers) that match to a low weighted item...meaning it is possible that you may not be able to get a drop when someone else may see a lot. This would obviously not be intended by developers but would be extremely hard to diagnose. Why? because the natural answer is ...that's just RNG man... some people have good luck and some people have bad luck".... or it can be some people have better random number sequences for certain low drop items and others have bad ones, implying your chance is not equal and not the same as everyone else's. I am not saying this is the case, but I it is possible. One way to test this would be to take the probability of an event not happening after say 100 tries. If you get 1 in a billion and yet this is what happened to you have to wonder if things are as equally random as we think.

I have a theory that individual characters may have specific seeds producing their own set of RNG's. If you have trouble getting a drop try using another character. Again this is just pure speculation. Or as people say it could just be RNG man.

If I were to produce a MMO, the underlying programming libraries have random number supports built in and they are typically fairly good as they also are used for security functions. An MMO is then built on top of this with more content creator friendly means to generate zones, dungeons, NPCs etc with a scripting language. Such a scripting language likely has random drop functions as well mapped to the more lower level random number functions in the programming libraries. I doubt each toon has different random seeds, or if they do, that it would make any form of difference. The only part we don't know if drops are weighted to artificially create rarity.

I cleared VMA about a month after it initially released. My first sharp inferno dropped almost a year to the day after my first clear. My second sharp inferno (back then there were only 3 traits, 2 of which nobody cared about), dropped on my very next run. RNG is of course (R)andom.

I still always question anyone when people spout off random numbers of runs north of 50, as I think most are exaggerated, but of course, that is not specifically directed at the OP. Mostly, because I think people dont actually count, they just guestimate. 60 seams like a lot to have no inferno, but it's certainly not all that unlikely from a statistical standpoint.

I still dont have a sharp bow (which at one point was certainly meta). That said, when we where able to trait change, I went through and deconned a bunch of VMA weapons. I kept at least 5 of each (6 of the DW weapons). They were fairly evenly distributed. I would venture a guess that I have around 100-150 full runs, but that's a total shot in the dark. Probably a good chance I am over estimating that a bit. It' gets blurry because when you go for flawless or pushing score, you end up bailing on a lot of runs which I wouldnt count.
