Druids of Galen: Who were they? Should they be explored/elaborated on in ESO?

My oooooooold TES: Arena character wants to know why his ancestors have pretty much been written out of the TES universe?

Fun-headed cannon options?

Maybe... the Nedes already had a kind of old nature magic/worship similar to what is seen in throughout northern Tamriel, surviving in some form among groups like the Wyrd, the Reachmen, and in some aspects the Skaal of Solstheim. As there were successive waves of migration from Atmora that formed the ancient needs, variants of the old ways and its nature magic would naturally have taken root in northern Tamriel and then diversified as the resulting societies and their cultures evolved over time.

Galen may have led the group that settled in High Rock and interbred with the Direnni (particularly those Nedes who were forced into being sexual playthings). Or he may have been a popular figure who helped restore and maintain the old ways for a time and gave hope to those Nedes who were at the bottom of the social caste. Either would have allowed him to become a folk hero that Bretons could latch onto as part of their own narrative of a long resistance under elven occupation.

Hence the description in TES: Arena that says: "Thy race is descended from the ancient Druids of Galen, quick witted and strong in the mystical arts. Thy folks are crafty and intelligent, a learned people who use their gifts to guide others to enlightenment..."

Eventually many Bretons abandoned the old ways and assimilated into civilization and the Empire. Others only partly so, such as the Glenmoril Wyrd, who remained near cities but were not part of that life. Still others rejected any ties to the elves or the "sellout" society and continued on as those who would later be known as the Reachmen.

Anyway, just a fun thought.

Who do you think the Druids of Galen were? And would you like to see more lore on this, or to keep it as either a retconned bit of game history or a mystery point in the lore?

Galen welched on a bet to my forefather years ago and still owes four sheep and a goat. They were cursed and can disappear from history for all I care.

    Hi there :D

    *ahem*

I think Galen may have been a location on Atmora, a grove, a valley or maybe a lush green forest that served as the magical centre of the Nedes on that continent. And when the "frost fall" occured, this group of Druids moved south to Tamriel and settled in High Rock.

    That would explain:

    - Why this group of Nedes were treated rather well by the Direnni (compared to the Ayleids and their slaves for instance), since they came across of group of humans with an aptitude for magic
    - Why modern day Bretons still have a strong affinity for magic. Their Elven heritage may have dilluted over the years but they are also descendants from a magical group of Nedes: the Druids of Galen

    Another good explanation.

It will be brought back in one day. Can't stop it.
