It wouldn't be a problem if we could have an optional torch (while walking and mounting, the emote only work when you don't move)in dark places (or better yet a campfire momento, and item too so we can use it in pvp zone)...just saying ;)@ZOS_GinaBruno

Definitely not too long, nor too dark.

In fact, we need longer nights, and more thunderstorms. And more thunderstorms at night.

As an explorer, I wish the daylight was longer. Or a day/night toggle.

That’s one unintended positive that my crafter/gatherer is a lightbulb. Aka Templar.

I think it's too short. Why does it start getting light at 3am??

Maybe you could adjust your gamma? I put on my Hollowjack outfit at night sometimes so I can see myself better. Reduces eye strain.

With HDR on i often have a lot of issues seing anything on screen or differentiating betwwen dyes etc. If there is some daylight / not perfectöy darkened room...is that only me? Maybe it would be nice to get a visual option in the menu that only brightens up the night time without increasing brightness overall?

Just play Khajiit, they should have Eye of Night ability, or light a torch.
Oh wait... wrong time period, Night Eye spell was invented in Nerevarine times, for now use Almalexia lantern memento on quickslot and u are good to go (Deshaan questline).

They already made night time an hour shorter during the great vampire rework. I don't think they should make it any shorter especially since it effects the vampiric sneak buff.

I would like it to be even darker. I always use Darker Nights mods in TES or Fallout.

About dyes, I put lanterns all around my outfit station for this reason, but yes, I recommend just raising gamma or monitor brightness.

And about lenght, it's already short. If you have a clock addon, you will notice that sunrise is at 3am, nightfall after 10pm.

To me the night in game doesn't last nearly long enough. I prefer to gather at night because it's easier to see the nodes glowing but I barely get going before it's getting light. The night needs to be equal in time to the day and it simply isn't.

Yeah, night time is best time!! Psijic portals and keen eye, awyis

i want and prefer "night time" and "darkness" in my guild hall, in my housing, and basicly all the time ingame.
i think night time and darkness is way too short in eso.

I do feel that the night is longer but this is probably a twisted perception, as I dislike night time. I turned my gamma up slightly, which helped. At least night is good for gathering!

There are three places where you can adjust settings for colour, brightness, gamma and contrast (level of grey tone) on a computer. First make sure that you have a base that work between your display, your videocard (for Nvidia it is called control panel) and in game it self.

When other people don't have problem with "darkness" it is often because they either play in a stable environment for background lightning. During day in summer time as an example a setting that worked perfect for darker seasons can be too dark and need to be adjusted in all three places for their settings to get an acceptable colour and be able to differentiate between different type of object that are in grey or darker tones (to imitate darkness and still make objects possible to see).

Don't forget to both try out how game looks with Ambient Occulation (AO) on or off, which you can enable or disable from in game settings and from video card itself. AO change how the whole scene looks, so it is not easy to decide if it is bad or good in other scene in game and might make colour look washed out if you don't adjust the rest of settings for colour (red, green and blue, saturation etc) together with brightness (more or less you displays LED that light up from background; this is depending on your displays technology - TN, IPS and that kind of things) and then your have contrast that have a large impact for making out grey tones that if you look at this forum with too high contrast might make it look all white and with too low contrast it will make grey look black. This forum use a subtle pattern that create a very light grey tone (compared to where I writing this post). Contrast is important to give colour life together with gamma and saturation.

As most display make use of simple technology to make LED change colour from having a light source in background it is possible that those LED are getting less strong in emitting light. Your eyes (and brain) also need time to adjust from changes both on screen and in background, this is individually different from person to person and the older one get the more those changes might seem to be harder to adapt to. The way we perceive "darkness" and colours is no easy task and that is why you need to calibrate screen time from time and even between games or other uses.

Finally if you stare at white paper long enough it will give you an after effect, same with red or green coloured paper. The point I try to make is that different colours have in impact on other colours, so your settings might need in three places and it can be hard to find the perfect colour, "darkness" and "life" to match with something that work for you. In ESO they have a long time a colour scale that went into blue scale which for some where annoying as it had an impact on rest of games light/dark scenes.

If you can't find a scale that fits with your eyes, then you might try another display to see if is related to age of display (even LED lights can get older) or maybe you might need to visit an expert to check your eyes (Optician or similar professional that have medical training).

Diabetes, high/low blood pressure etc can change how sensitive our eyes are for some colours and darkness. I don't want to make worry unnecessary, but it is a possibility that when you have problem to see in darkness/colour that it might be related to something physical that you aren't aware of yet.

Not too dark, and should be longer too in my opinion. Makes many places really beautiful with the lighting (torches and stuff) effects.

OP should really adjust some settings for themselves, since its far from too dark unless some really weird settings on.

The sun comes up just before 3:30am Tamriel Time and doesn't set completely until 10pm.
The day is plenty long; way TOO long. Night only lasts for 5.5 hours versus 18.5 hours of daylight.
(granted, 24 hours of in-game Tamriel Time passes much faster than 24 hours of real-world time.)

I've sat in-game watching (via the 'Clock' add-on) for the entire 5.5 hour duration of night since I was once under the mistaken impression that you could only receive or give a player werewolf or vampire bite at night.

As others have said, calibrate your Gamma Adjustment (Esc Menu -> Settings -> Video). The Quality of your monitor (TV in your case) will affect the quality of your visuals though, especially when it comes to the dynamic range of light/dark contrast etc.

Personally I really enjoy the night, and the different look it gives to places. For example, I feel Vvardenfell is by far the worst looking zone in the game, it's simply terrible with its washy colour palette during the day. During the night however it looks simply lovely to me. I don't think the game should lose that.

Taking a step back more generally, many MMOs over the years have had wonderful night cycles and lighting effects, only lessen or remove them altogether over time. Why? I do not know. Black Desert Online is a perfect example of this.

Of course it's just personal opinion, but I enjoy the nighttime, what it offers visually, as well as the subtle game-play experience it provides.
If you can be anything, be kind.

I am not sure if OP is really serious or trying to be funny. If their screen is really to dark they need to adjust their settings. There is an in game setting and of course out of game settings.
