Do you use "Unique" equipment with your builds?

Just a heads-up, when I say "Unique", I mean weapons, armor and Jewelry with an original name and occasionally it's own descriptions such as Alexandra's Froststaff, Naryu's Sniper's Bow, The Living Shadow Skin or Sugar Jacket, to give you a few examples. On top of that, most of these "Unique" equipment pieces are usually part of an Overland Set, including Popular ones like Necropotence or Mother's Sorrow (Except the Naked Nord's Pants, sadly, they don't get a Set bonus), so if the build you're aiming towards uses that Set, you can by all means use them in place of a generic set item.

As my current set for My DPS Warden Frost Mage utilizes the Shalk's Exoskeleton set, I use the aforementioned Alexandra's Froststaff on my main bar, half as a trophy for roleplay purposes, and also because it's enchantment and Trait are just what I needed for my build.

So how about you guys? Do you regularly use one or two of these "Unique" item pieces?

When I used Rattlecage I'd run the unique jewellery drops

    - Forbidden Jewels (Amulet)
    - Gem of Curses (Rings)

This was because, as a heavy armor set it only drops in healthy, but these unique pieces come in arcane. I also remember running the old lich set when it only dropped from dolmens. Back then they were all unique pieces... damn it was rare. I actually still have a few old bits and bobs around from these old dolmens, like Glacial Staff of Nomeg Haga. It's completely useless, but I keep them as trophies/mementos

Favorite is the briarheart dagger you get from the quest.

I generally avoid using named gear simply because it's harder to search for in my inventory. ZOS *really* needs to include set name and item description in the inventory search. It's just not that hard to do.

I always tried to save unique stuff but the majority of it dropped for me with a useless trait and had a bad set/piece combo, like charged briarheart resto staff. I do have two gold Spriggan's Daggers and a Naryu Bow that saw a little use. Some of the guaranteed-drop pieces like that are nice.

The other thing about the named gear is that unless it's equipped, it really makes a mess of your inventory. Having different set pieces with weird names spread throughout a long list of gear is terribly inconvenient. I'd prefer to just have the stuff with regular names so I can actually find it all when I need it.

When I happen to have it/need it for the set.
Playing your character the way your character should play is all that matters. Play as well as you can but never betray the character. Doing so would make playing an mmoRPG pointless.

Another one is Dark Staff of the War Maiden. It's a flame staff for, you guessed it, War Maiden. It's a bit of a pain to get because of all the running around, but it's a hell of a lot easier than trying to drop one yourself.

I have never tried to use a unique named item in a build. I have used such items but the fact it is named is meaningless to me as it does not make the build any better or worse.

If you're on PC, you can use Inventory Insight. It has an option to search by the set, plus it catalogues the gear, baggage space and currency on all your characters in one place. I find it invaluable.

THIS. A vast majority of the unique named pieces are in weights or types that are completely useless to the set. Classic examples are the Siren's Call (Bow) and Corpse-Caller's Fury (mace) of Necropotence. Neither of these will EVER be used to someone who is actually playing the set and not just cobbling together random pieces of gear as they go around. I've always been baffled by ZOS's choices on these because it happens with over 90% of named items.
Crappy traits I can deal with, but completely nonsensical gear like this makes me shake my head. It would be cool to go into battle with a Corpse-Caller staff or sash, that actually adds to the value of the set rather than just breaking it like most of the name pieces do.

That being said, I do use the Scarab Spriggan's daggers, Silks staves and Lord Warden's sword and shield

Yep, I transmogrified the Vest of Long Sight so I could use it on my "Spinner." Also upgraded The Spinner's Weave hat because of the item description. Why use any old hat when you can have an "elegant cowl that smells faintly of lilacs"?

I completely agree. This is a perfect example of what these unique pieces should be. Something usable within the set. You don't have a Waterlogged Chestpiece of the Spinner in medium :)

The "name" doesn't change the stats so sure, if I have one that I want for my build I do use it. Its the same 'set' whether it is named specially or not so its all the same to me.

I've been recently playing around with the Queen's Elegance set and I'm rather fond of my newly re-traited Artificer's Bolt and the as is Elegant Serpent's Flame staves. OwO

The flavor text are fun and the special name is nice.

"The legends of fire-breathing snakes are just that, legends. Or so they say."

"The base of this staff bears the personal mark of Telenger the Artificer. The smell of rain accompanies it everywhere."

I do that when the equipment is bounded, like i have 2 Rings of a Set and i can only equip the 2 if one is unique and the other one is not, but i wouldn't refuse a Armor or Weapon just because it's unique, so basically almost all players have one or seven unique items

Yes, I like the unique drops from sets, they are great mementos of quests, delves, world and dungeon bosses.
Those item narrate a little story in the game and I prefer them over ''normal'' drops even if sometimes there's the need to change trait, enchant... often checking eso-sets to find the if the sets I'm interested in have them.

I usually decon those if I have an unnamed piece to replace it. Having named pieces in my inventory makes it a little harder to find what I'm looking for.
