I have never tried to use a unique named item in a build. I have used such items but the fact it is named is meaningless to me as it does not make the build any better or worse.

What you said is true. I think it just adds to the fun of it. Remember when a lot of unique items were not even part of sets? Although a lot are still trash (Dreug king slayer staff) knowing the good or decent ones (Briar dagger from the quest) makes it easier and cheaper to get something nice without low RNGesus debuff.

I'm the other way around - if I'm dropping a unique equivalent of something I already use, I will phase out the generic one and start using the unique one. I think it's a nice way to create a connection to the stuff. So for BSW, I use Scamplord's Signet, and for Sanctuary, Angata's Signet. For Worms, there's even a unique necklace, ring, and healing staff to use. (And a fire staff.)

Also, the Grievous Leeching Ward is just the best item in this game, ever.
