Earn it. Don’t cheese it. Go to Cyrodill and kill people. Don’t look for shortcuts.

At any rate, you’ll end up a better player. I went to Vivec in DIVINES and died and died and died some more. But I got it.

Now, if I knew I needed however much AP you need for caltrops I’d go to Cyro and stack bodies like cords of wood.

If you cheese it, what are you gonna do with it. Short-cut your way through the game. The knowledge and skill I gained GETTING caltrops is way more valuable than caltrops itself. Besides, I don’t even run that crap lol.

Playing your character the way your character should play is all that matters. Play as well as you can but never betray the character. Doing so would make playing an mmoRPG pointless.

According to UESP, (who usually have the right numbers) it takes earning 188k AP to reach rank 6 for Caltrops. You get 7.5k for coming dead last in a BG. So about 25 matches gets you there, and of course less if you actually win from time to time. Doing the training quest before you start them drops the target, too.

Do it early, so the other players won't have skills that one-shot you, and it's fun, too!

Interesting...I never got into bg’s...and definitely see Cyro being more “profitable” for me personally...what does 1st place get? I’m hoping at least 3x that amount? I guess the benefit to bgs is the guaranteed tick...whereas Cyro you have to go find them...hmm..

      lmao.

It's because the Assault/Support skill lines were decoupled from the Alliance ranks when the AP requirements changed.

      Gratz on getting Caltrops!

I might get them one day but I really don't like being pushed into a PvP zone for things that are useful in PvE.

As a non-PvP'r, I prefer doing BG's for unlocking Caltrops on characters, even better if they're still under level 50.

It might not be the fastest way to get Caltrops compared to optimised groups in Cyrodiil - but it's still pretty fast, but more importantly it's much more reliable. Getting a reliable group on Cyrodiil can vary and if you end up not doing too well with groups or there just aren't many people for it at the time, it'll be much, much slower. With BG's, even if you come in 3rd place you still get a good chunk of AP, I always calculate how much time I'll have left to get it by just assuming I come in 3rd place every match, and it helps my motivation knowing that there's a pretty certain amount of time it will take, compared to Cyrodiil which can vary greatly.

And as it turns out, I don't mind BG's too much, sometimes it's pretty fun and I can help out a bit, which also makes it feel like it goes much faster. Cyrodiil can end up making you run your horse around more often than PvP'ing.

We have a store here in Portland OR that sells Caltrops.

Sure they're rubber tipped, but they are only 17,000 crowns per dozen in the Crown Store.

Use xp scroll and do Intro Cyro quests, then bgs.

I don't think Cyro PVE quests level Assault/Support. Are you talking about the PVP "quests" or objectives like "Kill 20 nightblades?"

      I would buy it.

      a) Do not be level 50. Level 20-40 will work perfectly
      b) Put an XP scroll on
      c) Join Cyrodiil and set the under 50s as Home Campaign
      d) Do the tutorial quest WITHOUT skipping. If you go through the end it will give you 3.5-4 levels on Assault & Support
      e) Join the alliance group for 2 hours. Job done.

No need to grind through BGs, especially when more than half are pre-made groups of well geared and prepared guilds.
Maybe just do the tutorial first mission and try to win it.

I think zerg fun is the way to go. I usually use troll king or mix resistance monster sets in pvp.

For my stam sorc I went mag. I got plague doctor and lich and stayed alive while healing zergs.

For a warden I made a set of sloads and turogs. Then I just shield charge at the front of the zerg, before applying that ice cc move, then the zerg gets the ap for me. That and light attack with the torugs bow fortified with the oblivion enchantment.

Basically, get tanky, find a crowd and just go.

On pcna dc characters can also use sotha sil at night and pv door the full map.

Basically, I suggest figuring out a way to make participating in a 30 day campaign easy for yourself. Then you can get the big 50 crystal geodes in 30 - 60 min of play after you've got caltrops.

My 9 characters can all get crystals painlessly, but only 2 have any chance at actually winning a duel. Even those two fail quickly against high end players.

XP scroll=/= scroll of pelinal (or however you spell it). Just dont want there to be confusion. People were specifically saying XP scrolls.

Getting caltrops is hell. Especially for players like me who detest PvP. It was the reason for me to not make new stamina characters. I personally would be grateful if ZOS had changed the way we get them.

Back to the topic, I found the quickest way to get caltrops to be a BG. Quite painful but quick. It cost me one sleepless night to level enough on my stamsorc.

      And it counts for BGs
