Child NPCs

I’m pretty sure children do exist in Tamriel, but it’s citizens know enough to keep them hidden well away from all of us. :)

I mean, we open carry our weapons around all the time. Do you see many non-enemy npcs doing that (other than soldiers and guards)?

however I am also aware that the reason we don't is that you can bet your ass there would be some nutters on the forums demanding to be able to kill them.

That pales in comparison to....the sickos that....like children.

That's a complex topic: I like the idea of kids being in the game but I generally dislike unkillable NPCs, especially when said unkillable NPCs are written to be so obnoxious that you'd wish you could kill them everytime you interact with them (Little Lamplight, anyone?).

Obviously having them killable would mean that they'd spend most of their time dead or beside a pile of their own corpses like so many NPCs around Tamriel and that's bad for PR.

In the end I think that not having childern in ESO is for the best

I contend there is/are (one of those is grammatically correct) children all over the game. They are playing hide and seek and are really good at it.

That or they are afraid of Winged Twilights and sorcs won't put them away when they should.

Aaaand I’ve just gone from hating sorc pets to loving sorc pets, hey sorcs! Keep your pets summoned 100% of the time so we don’t need to deal with annoying little people in the game, Skyrim’s were annoying enough.

There should be children. They should be unkillable. They should not be irredeemable brats that make you WANT to kill them. And there should be quests involving them. And for the obligatory brats the effect of the quest ought to be to teach the little blighters a lesson! It's really quite easy to implement them WITHOUT making them either controversial or so annoying that you wished they'd all just disappear again.

My guess is that they're just not willing to spend the money on the character models. Look at how little has been done to improve character creation for us, the players, in the past 5 years. This just seems an area where they aren't willing to spend money.... likely because they know "selling children" in the cash shop would be frowned upon and we all know that unless something can be directly monetized in this game now it just ain't happening.

My children in Skyrim keep asking for money and for me to play with them. The one even has a Skeever pet. And my wife keeps saying "stupid dog" to the dog I rescued.

This is why I spend 99.99% of my time exploring and only come home to drop items off.

Imagine that in ESO. I would have no money because the kids would keep asking for it.

Selfish jerks. Risking my life to save the world and they do this to me. smh.

Considering the rate players and NPC's die, it would just be too time-consuming to have to grow new ones. They don't even have time to bury the dead in cities, before their replacements need to be spawned.

Magic's the answer. It's just so .... magical!

Yeah, but then the NPCs of tamriel heard that -player characters- would be coming (gasp!) and hid all their kids in well camoflaged underground cellars!
      :p;)

Seriously, yeah, its an grating design decision, if you play the sidequests, you may find some that are -definitely- written with "children" in mind (the "My mom still treats me like a kid despite being fully grown" excuse may work that -one- time in koeglin village, but not the other times when a NPC goes all "help me, I am too scared to dash past those snakes without someone holding my hand" or similar rescues that would touch upon morally questionable topics like that one daughter in need of rescuing from a lewd imperial who acts very, very underage in a certain bangkorai city...), and it always feels a bit wierd to walk through cities without at least some kids somewhere... (would have been a good indicator for "safezone", just sayin)
Because all the gaming sickos would be killing them.
In the beginning... there was no killing of NPCs. That only came with the justice system, later on, so... this argument does not make as much sense?
In any case, it would have been a small thing to just make them impossible to kill, either straight-out unattackable, or if they were feeling cute, have any kids auto-dodge any attacks and run away while yelling for the guard, giving you a huge bounty if you try...

      But eh.
Its what we got, and I don't really see them refitting kids to the game, as much as I would love that, so... just assume the NPCs keep all the kids out of sight because Tamriel is a rather dangerous place in these times.

I'd like to see children npcs in game, just for immersion. It will make the world feel more alive. Just make it so they can't be killed. There really is no reason not to have them.

I would take it a step further and have us able to have a wife or husband (adult npcs ofcourse) and child npcs for sons or daughters that stay in your homes. Like in hearthfire for Skyrim.

      LOL, this topic again.

I have never given thought to children being present or not in an MMORPG. I do not understand the fixation some have on this subject. It is certainly not important to immersion or the story line.

      In your opinion.

For others it would add immersion, and an extra level of depth to story quests.

The 'children' in previous Bethesda games were so ugly that you had to wonder what planet they came from. They were vaguely humanoid blobs. Why on earth they decided to make them look like that is anybody's guess. Maybe something to do with pushing the strange wasternised belief that nothing bad ever happens to kids.

      ...you were saying? :p;)

(joking aside, a few outhouses here and there as well as the occasional indoor pivy in the more civilized places would have been great for immersion - one of the things I always loved about the FallOut series!)

I know there are a lot of unkillable characters in ESO and though I don't like it I know that it's out of necessity (killable quest givers or merchants would be dead 99% of the time).

The main issue I have with kids in ESO is that beside immersion (which isn't really a selling point for MMOs anyway) I don't see any purpose for them that justifies all the work (3d modelling of bodies and clothes, animations, voice acting, script writing) required to have them
