Cheated out of event tickets

Today I used the anniversary cake and received no tickets. I checked my cap and I was 12/12 so I went and spent 10. I then used the cake and again received no tickets for today. I am going to assume this is a coding issue and the game considers me having used the cake today to earn tickets, but none were rewarded.

This is hard for me to submit a support ticket on due to the vague category it would fit in.

Yep, if you had 12 and ate the Cake you lost the two you would have gotten. It's been that way since the beginning so we have to check to be sure to not have 12 when it's time to get 2 more tickets.

On that note if you have 194 Crystals for example and open a reward coffer having more crystals than you can take you will fill up to 200 and the rest are lost. I opened a 50 cyrstal coffer one day and took the contents not realizing I was at 194 already. Lost 46 crystals. Have to keep up on all these things...

How is it a bug, though?

The cake awards tickets the first time it is used in the 24-hour period.

You had 12 tickets when you first used the cake.

You then received 2 wasted tickets.

    You then spent tickets.

But when you used the cake, it had already been used for the first time.

In other words, the cake award tickets the first time it is used, not the first time it is used when you have less than 12 tickets.

The game considers you having used the cake because you actually have used it.

It is bad coding, pure and simple. Don't tell me this was a design intention. It's ineptitude that hasn't been corrected due to laziness, time better spent reskinning ponies than correcting ineptitude.

    Yes...cause coding is hard...
And it is too hard for ZoS...
To code a system check to see if you have the available space for the deposit prior and initiating a pop-up warning the items will be wasted if you proceed.
I personally don’t play the ticket game..but ZoS has invested A lot of time and effort into this feature...seems reasonable they should also take measures to prevent these accidental losses.

It is intended design that there is a cap of 12 tickets, and that any tickets exceeding that will be forfeit.

Sorry but you're wrong here. ESO has several issues, no doubt, but this not one of them. But if a player can't be bother to pay attention to what they're doing, then it's nobody's fault but the players.

This to the +1000 degree! Given the number of potential tickets that players could have it does seem like a person should be able to bank more than twelve tickets I started off thinking the event ticket game would be interesting, and then once I got the Indrik mount and realized how many more times I would need to carve out more time to get the berries i said "F*CK THAT!" and now I do not even worry about it. If i see something interesting I will go on ahead and buy it for tickets, but once I get to twelve and don't see something interesting i cross that off my list of things to collect and go on with the game. Kudos to those gamers that continue to grind this out, but this one was not for me.

    Sorry you missed those tickets.

    To the broader issue:

If it is working as intended, it will keep working this way so it would help to let people know this is the case to avoid such things in the future. Maybe a dev post or a mention in the article for the next event.

This is a L2P issue, not a ZOS issue.
The intent of tickets and how they are awarded is clear as day. It works exactly the same with Transmute crystals.

I hve over 100 siege weapons in my bags, however I can't carry more than 12 event tickets, that are the size of your average theatre ticket. Unless I am mistaken and the tickets are the size of houses.

By the way - if you're maxed at 12/12, and you use the cake the first time in the day?

It still gives you the loot window with the 2 tickets.

So if you didn't see the loot window, it's not because you were at 12/12. It's some other issue.

(I've been maxed out since the start of the event, I've still gotten my 2 tickets every day.)

I totally agree with this! Same goes for the treasure chests/material nodes...how would people like it if the treasure/materials disappeared because your packs were full. I do not think any rewards should disappear/be lost just because an arbitrary item limit was in place without some type of warning.

It is bad prioritization, pure and simple. Don't tell me this was a coding error. It's ineptitude that hasn't been corrected due to laziness, time better spent spamming free reward boxes than checking your inventory.

Rubbish argument on the whole, isn't it?

Working as intended, but not optimally.

Ideally, extra currency that has a cap should be put in a container similar to transmutation geodes when we try to open a container that contains currency we can't claim at the moment.

For event currency, that container could expire within a day or something so people dont stack currency for 1 event and wait out succeeding ones.

Sorry, but it's not a bug. It's working as it always had. I'm really not sure why they capped it at 12 tickets though. That's the really bizarre issue here.

Eh, I just understand the point behind it - so that people have to participate in the events, not just hoard tickets at the beginning, and then sit out a season of events while still getting the rewards. (i.e, the idea of the whole mount 'giveaway' is to encourage continuous participation.)

Kind of like how Star Trek Online changed their Summer & Winter events so that you couldn't collect the Big Prize Tokens in bulk one year, and then skip the next two year's events. (you used to be able to farm large numbers of generic tokens and use them every year. They changed the tokens to be locked to that year's event. Because, again, the idea was to encourage participation in those events.)

..if I could give you my tickets, I would. I've been sitting at 12/12 since the whole thing began last year, I've lots dozens or hundreds. Only things I've bought were the pet & a couple Cadwell motifs last event. I had nothing to buy this week, so I've just been maxed. It'd be nice to have collected a bunch of tickets to buy all the PvP & Dungeon Week styles, but... like I said, I understand the idea behind the limit. No biggie. /ahrug

I'll give you an actual answer from a systems point of view:

It keeps you logging into the game, giving you hoops to jump through to slows your progress. Putting an arbitrary limit on your tickets makes you have to keep thinking about the game and managing inventory at the forefront of your brain.

Even if its negative, if you are thinking about it, you are thinking about it and you are going to more likely to be interact with the situation.

They are not giving us things, they are enticing us to log into the game and they are manipulating the actions and potential feelings of their customers in order to maximize some metric.

It's always to maximize some sort of metric.
Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.
