Why so few mounts in crown store?

I'm the sort of person who would happily spend 3000 crowns on a new mount regularly.

I wonder why there are so few mounts available to purchase.

Does anyone have any suggestions or insights as to how to get more mounts, or is it a case of just waiting for one to be available to purchase?

I'm not prepared to gamble with crien crates. :/

The mounts usually cycle back through a year, you just have to wait it out. :| , (Also some mounts show back up for a limited time, like a week or so. So keep watching for sales.)

Thanks, I'll keep an eye out.

The special limited edition ones at the mo have been really weak (treasure hunters, egg hunters, etc).

I'm sure they'd make a lot more money if they had a big selection of decent horses year round.

The Egg Hunter is lame because of that blasted basket. Not buying.

But the Treasure Hunter's horse? Don't hate on little Surefoot! He's one of the most original, yet understated mounts in the game! There's a reason why he's the mount my main rides.

Maybe because I'm still relatively new I'm hoping for an epic fantasy style mount and haven't yet reached the subtle mount stage

You'll get there. My advice? Get the Treasure Hunter's horse ASAP.

Something tells me you'll regret not doing so later. ;)

I quite like it but I really preferred the shellback warhorse but lost out!

I actually really like the elks, I wish there were more of them available.

For whatever reason ZOS seems to lean heavily on the 'artificial scarcity' model, where items come into the crown store for a limited time and then are removed. Some come back later on (but it could be months later), some only come back in crown crates and some never come back at all.

This can be a very effective sales technique. It creates a sense of urgency - you can't keep telling yourself you might buy it 'one day' or you'll wait to see if the price goes down or there's a sale, if you want it you need to get on and get it. So some people will buy things they sort-of want so they don't miss out, which they might have decided against if they'd had more time to think about it.

It also appeals to a certain group of people who like the idea of "exclusive" purchases - of having something other people cannot have and like to imagine other people will be impressed that they were online at the right time to buy it. (As you can probably tell I don't understand that mindset myself, but there are entire businesses built around that type of marketing.)

It seems to be ZOS's preferred method, with a relatively small selection of items, particularly mounts, which are always available, and then lots of limited time offers. If you hang around long enough there's a decent selection, but very few at any one time.

This is really interesting and you hit the nail on the head.

I guess next time I see one I like, I should just get it

I just hope I haven't got in too late and the best mounts are going to be predominantly crown gem items.

Because ZOS is obsessed with two things when it comes to the Crown Store:
    1. Using time limited availability to drive sales via FOMO
    2. Crown Crates

1 feeds into 2 because the mounts which get removed once their small availability window is up get recycled as lesser tier crate rewards.

Because they like shoving it into lootboxes instead of in the crown store so they can milk their whales. It's a shame really. I'd spend my eso plus on mounts if the ones they have on the store weren't so boring. The only only slightly cool to me is the wolf but still not worth the 1.8k crowns imo

Well, I will never purchase crates, but would be happy to spend regular money on items on demand. Their loss I guess!

If I may ask... do you necessarily want something that is good and looks good, or does it have to also be expensive for the sake of virtual-reality prestige?

Mounts get shuffled in and out of the Crown Store, and a lot of them are excellent "limited time" things.

Currently, the 5 year event has an excellent, unique steed on offer for 40 event tickets. You get 2 tickets a day just for eating the cake, and if you time it right and buy the rest just before the event ends, you'll probably get it for cheap. Will it be back anytime soon? I am guessing not. But, it's a hell of a mount, and you can get it mostly just by using the event mechanism. So, that might satisfy the "new and nice" craving you seem to be having. To the best of my knowledge, it has nothing to do with Crown Crates or gambling.

I remember the Frost Mare was offered for a limited time, for example. Its concept appears to have been later used for Radiant Apex stuff, which is the highest paywall in existence right now. It's a horse made out of ice with frost effects.

A basic black Guar is not that different from the Apex Guar in the Crown Crates right now, except the Apex has special armoring.

One of my favorite mounts, and if you want something that is basic but excellent, you can't go wrong with the Imperial Horse from the Imperial pack. Yeah, it's "basic," but I wonder how many people overlook it for its price rather than quality. Snow-white steed is perfect for fighting evil, and because of the role Imperial Pack plays, it's next to impossible it'll ever leave the Crown Store. If memory serves, Imperial Pack is 2100 crowns.

I think it's best to check the Crown Store regularly and nab what you think you'll end up using.

    Hope this helps!

Horrible. I wish I could get my money back for that one. It makes tinkling Disney movie sounds every time you get on or off.
If you want to sound like you're constantly in an animated Disney film, though, then go for it.

You might be into something like the Auroran Warhorses then, OP. Mighty beasts in gold/silver armor. They might be back in the store one day...

I quite like them... my girlish Khajiit Templar rides this one and has the corresponding pony for company. All three are color coordinated and a rather pretty sight to behold.

It's still in the Crown Store. There was another variant that was on sale for a limited time not long ago. But the one that was introduced with Summerset is still in the store.
