Now is the great time to start the game... the game has solid, really big playerbase... everywhere you go, there are people.

I just lvled new char, not to mention that from 1-50 and to arround 400 cp is fairly easy to get and also quick. (Here you should use xp boosts - if you return now, you can have the 2019 event cake, which gives you xp boost for 2 hours when you eat it until 8th of may i think...)...

But to be honest, when i was lvling this char, i have never had the feeling how big playerbase in this game is... there are people everywhere... I play ESO for like 2 years now, last 10 months bit more active then before... and i really like the game.

I have problems only with quests, becaue i really do not like to lvl up same quests over and over.. and i only like to play 1 char...

So short anwser is, yes it is great time to come back..

I have to agree. Everywhere you go are people. 3am on some random quest in middle of nowhere greenshade? Somebody will be right there at your side. It actually kind of drives me nuts but it's good for the game. Lately no matter what I try to do in the wee hours of the morning when I think nobody will be around, I'll find at least one other player pursuing the same activity and/or following the same route as me. It's annoying if I'm trying to farm in Craglorn at off hours and arrive at an isolated area only to hear the sound of another player mining the metal and wood I was after. During the day and evening, "normal" play hours, tons of players everywhere. I don't think we're all going to disappear suddenly. It's a very popular game making lots of money and ZoS has plenty of incentive to keep working on it.

While you can play in any order you like, given your preference the sequence is:

    - your home alliance quest line + the main story ("five companions) + Cyrodiil questing hubs/random overland one-shot quests
    - Craglorn + other two alliance quest lines
    - Imperial City (DLC with medium zone)
    - Orsinium (DLC with large zone)
    - Thieves Guild (DLC with medium zone)
    - Dark Brotherhood (DLC with medium zone)
    - Morrowind (Chapter - large zone)

    - Shadows of the Hist (DLC - dungeons only)
    - Horns of the Reach (DLC - dungeons only)

    - Clockwork City (DLC with medium zone)
    - Dragon Bones (DLC - dungeons only)
    - Morrowind (Chapter - large zone)
    - Wolfhunter (DLC - dungeons only)
    - Murkmire (DLC - medium zone)
    - Wrathstone (DLC - dungeons only)

Craglorn and Imperial City are totally stand alone.

Orsinium is stand-alone but there is a very brief, very small hint about the Morrowind-Clockwork City-Summerset storyline at the end.

Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood are totally stand alone.

Morrowind, Clockwork City, and Summerset have their own stories but they form a larger, connected story.

    Murkmire is totally stand alone.

Most of the dungeons-only DLC are stand alone, but Wrathstone (which is as of this date the latest content) is tied to all other content released in 2019.

The next content to be released in a chapter set in Elsweyr.

Plus there's a note you find in Orsinium that references events in Coldharbour. You can then take that note to someone in Dark Brotherhood zone (Gold Coast) who's interested in the note (a character from the Coldharbour questline).

I just came back myself, although since I only played a little during the Beta it might be more accurate just to say im new myself.

Game has improved a ton from what I remember in the Beta and the only thing I regret so far is I didn't come back sooner. Even got my pops to play and my kids, and we are having a blast.

    Never!

There is loads to play, true, and it might feel like you could never catch up... but that is why there are catchup mechanics to help you along.

And so far the game shows no signs of ending anytime soon (and we all pray it will remain thus)

There are ample people around, sometimes too many (oh, the lag!), there is tons of stuff to do, tons of stories to follow, tond of character buildy to try, tons of... you get the idea, right? ;)
While you can play in any order you like, given your preference the sequence is:

    - Dragon Bones (DLC - dungeons only)
    - SUMMERSET (Chapter - large zone)
    - Wolfhunter (DLC - dungeons only)
    - Murkmire (DLC - medium zone)
    - Wrathstone (DLC - dungeons only)
    (Fixed the mistake)
But yeah, this is the "proper" order, and the most enjoyable way to go about it. The stories make sense this way - even the standalone DLCs make more sense if you do them in the right sequence...

So, it might truly be never to late to go... Back to Tamriel!

      TL:DR

Game is still so popular and so populated, the queues for Dungeons and BGs break at prime time.

In AvAvA at prime time, you sit in a massive queue to even get into Cyrodiil

Some areas are so full of players, your FPS will drop to a PowerPoint level

so yes, the game is far, far, far from dying any time soon. It is so popular in fact, that it can't cope with the amount of people playing it

Haha the truth be good or bad.

Well, the one question I didn't see anyone ask, is what do you plan on doing when you come back? Are you a PvP? PvE? If PvE I say yes it's so much better with One Tamriel you are not forced to do your own faction quests first before going on else where. Now you can go anywhere you want at anytime.

As for PvP, don't have a clue so can't say. Some say it has improved, others say it's the same. For PvE game is so much more fun and enjoyable now.

Also not sure if you are considering ESO+. That gives you all the DLC for free except "stories" that right now is Summerset. I believe Summerset will be free with ESO+ once Elsewyr comes out. Morrowind is included as well, but you will need to buy the Warden separately.

You also get a craft bag to horde all your ingrediants and get double bank space as well as 10% XP boost and research boost. Also you get 1650 crowns as well. You don't need it but nice to have and then you don't need to buy any of the DLC except for "stories" since that is Zenimax way of charging for free DLC for ESO+ members.
Not my quote but I love this saying

"I would pay It for support. But since they choosed we are just numbers and not customers, i dont mind if game and zos goes to oblivion"

I bought ESO when it was first released, and obviously it went through a bit of a rough time... I stopped playing after a few months and began to focus on other MMOs instead. I've read over the past few years that a lot has improved, and having watched videos and articles it seems it really has, which I'm glad about. Unfortunately the only thing I've done so far is completed the main storyline, and I've not even started the 2 other base game faction areas. Being a completionist who prefers to go through content in the order it was released, and knowing that I'm gonna have to first complete the other 2 factions' zones before even moving on to the first expansion, I'm not sure if the game's even gonna be around by the time I get to it. There's 2 expansions out already, with another on the way, and I just don't want to get back into the game if it's not gonna be around in a year or two.

*TLDR: Is it too late to come back?*

No, it's not.I am a slowly progressor, and have completed only one faction storyline myself and 2\3 of two others. I do things slowly, talk to non-essential NPCs, listen to dialogues, revisit old places to see, if their dialogue lines updated since I fixed this or that in Tamriel. Also, sometimes I just spend time sightseeing or researching the surroundings for trading purposes. So, all in all, I am the guy who is thorough in my questing.

I estimated, that completing all factions storyline should take around 100 hours total with my current pace, and approximated, that any major chapter adds 30 hours to the counter, and all DLCs should take 100 hours more. So, I estimate that is should take around 300 hours to complete existing questing content (again, with my current pace). That's basically a month and a half of dedicated gameplay, but I don't think it's much in terms of MMO.

I would suggest using a high DPS char for this purpose, so you won't spend your time fighting mobs.

Good thing I didn't see this part of the message, because I wouldn't be willing to write anything above, really.
I mean, if you did any kind of research, you would see, that the game is in good health, and it would take a couple major impediments to bring ESO servers down. At least, I expect this game to be around for 4-5 years more

It's never to late if you enjoy the content.
I've even join back Lineage II classic for a while and it's a way more competitive and long grind than here and I still had fun.

Well, the Earth could be struck by a world destroying apocalypse heralding meteor in the next two years, but that doesn't stop me from getting into my car and going to work.

If you're not going to try something that looks good just because it might go away eventually, then you're just going to miss out on a lot of stuff. But, hey, they're your regrets.

Why do so many people resort to unhelpful moralizing in response to clear and reasonable questions? They're clearly asking if people think the game is doing well enough to warrant an investment of of their time, not requesting a sample of your life philosophy or seeking your approval for how to decide that investment.

I think it's silly to ask for biased opinions. It's like asking the polar bear club if I should do the ice bucket challenge, of course they'll say yes.

That said, OP, don't listen to the haters! ESO4LIFE!

Since the game is buy to play and you already own it why not get on and play for a while to see if it appeals to you? Since Tamriel One there is a lot of content in addition to running the other two faction quests that is available all on your existing characters. If you decide you like ESO then I would look into an ESO+ subscription to get access to the DLC's, crafting bag and other perks. It would also let you form your own opinion as to whether the game will be around for a while and if the community is your type of people.

The game is great and lots to do. You should never get bored if you really delve into it. Whether you enjoy doing Quests or running dungeons or Crafting or decorating your house....lots to do.

Hope you get back into the game and have fun. With Elsweyr coming up I think it's going to introduce even more for us to experience. The Necromancer is going to rip into people's creative content like never before as varying builds hit the game.

What's good about Elder Scrolls Online is you don't have to complete everything to catch up. The entire world is scaled so you can dive right in. The ideal MMORPG is one where you never run out of things to do, and this one comes closer to any other MMO on the market to that IMHO. So I wouldn't worry so much about completing everything.
