Game Keeps crashing randomly with the Elder Scrolls Online has quit unexpectedly

My wifes computer is running an Radeon ATI HD3870 x2 graphics card. 4gigs of ram. Win7 with a quadcore processor. Its weaker but it meets all system requirements for the game. I've been able to log into the game and play for a random amount of time with absolutely smooth frame rates at my current settings. Spontaneously I will quit with the usual message of "ESO has quit unexpectedly" randomly usually in the first 5 or 10 minutes of gameplay.
So far trying to fix the game I have done the following: Uninstalled and reinstalled the game. Uninstalled and Reinstalled graphics drivers, MSconfig and shut down all non essential start up programs (I don't have razor products which I heard could be a reason for the error.). Adjusted Graphics settings down to absolute minimum(smooth framerates again but random crash), and made sure crossfire settings in my graphics were off, and ran the game in administrator, running it in compatability mode, and lastly I went into the Documents/ESO/Live/Usersettings.txt and changed D3D11 to OpenGL to see if that helped, nothing has worked thus far.

Maybe. But I run ESO on my computer just fine with no crashes at all on the same network. I'll open the ports for her computer but I don't believe thats the issue. Also I have a router based firewall so I have shut down her windows firewall.

Ok. I have tried opening the ports for the game with a crash after about 4 minutes in. Same error as before. I honestly didn't think that would work but I'll try anything once as long as it doesn't involve committing a felony.

Its game makes fault, this error... they should actualy stop talking... and do something about it. Tomorrow starts the 30-days run.. i dont know what country or what rules apply here, but they did sell us "working" product.. so if its not working, why should we pay from it? .. i am not angry, i am just sad... WAited this game long time. And wow,wt,wot,bf3/4,sc2,civ... you name it, i got it .. they i just installed and started to play, easy.. this game... huah

Take your time to fix it, but dont expect us to pay from it until it works :)

My next step in this war on the ESO has involved hunting down and purging any sort of spyware that could damage or cause errors in her system. Now to see if that works. After that though I think I am just down to Voodoo and dark pacts with Deadric princes.
  • ocarina1
    ocarina1
Ok. I have also done a complete purge of any and all Spyware and Adware on this computer. I still got the crash. Curiously ESO ran a repair after my purge. Still it made no difference. I am out of all ideas as to how to resolve this random crash. Lets hope my prayers to the Deadric Princes work cause the Aedra ain't listening.

I tried running the consultant built into the launcher. I got a lot of stuff that was gibberish to me or didn't strike me as important. However this caught my eye.

Not sure what this means. I have opened the ports to ESO on her computer so I don't know if I fully understand what I am looking at. Either way it caught my eye.

Hi, i have exact the same problems with 2 crosffire grafic cards ATI Radeon 4670 Gygabyte. After playing from 2 to maximum 15 minutes it crashes and gives the same report. If i disable Crossfire option from Catalyst it is working properly and now crashing so i'm sure it is not a problem of forwarding ports and other stuff. Please do something about this because i bougth this second grafic card specialy for ESO but aparently is usles at the moment. My Desktop have Win 7 x64, Mother board Assus Z87M-PLUS, Proc: I5 4440, 8 Gb ram (1600 Hz) and 2 grafic cards mentioned above.

    keep getting random crashes too.
    pissing me right off.
Was standing idle in Rift while having lunch and suddenly a crash. Tried to use a wayshrine to get to Shadowfen from the Rift crash.
    Seriously what is going on?

Ok. So I resolved my issue. Turns out I wasn't actually managing to shut off crossfire for ESO. I went into catalyst control to poke around on my wifes computer settings. I found out that I needed to make a profile for the game in the catalyst settings to have the disable crossfire effect. After I set a profile for ESO I was able to go in and save the settings for disabled crossfire. I was able to play an hour and twenty minutes with no random crash and several quests.
For now at least I think I can call this resolved. Thank you everyone for your help in the matter. You all set me on the right course I just had to figure out how to make it all happen :D

The game shuts down automatically after 1 minute no matter what i do, customer services are doing nothing but generating random emails saying they patched the game so it should work. I was able to run the game fine pre launch....now it's just hell. Running it on a Razer Blade. Every other game runs fine... i'm out of options.

I had a game (different one) doing that to me. No others. I eventually tracked it down to a problem with my power supply. It happened to my wife with EQ2 and it was memory. Not saying it is definitely some hardware problem but it could well be something going bad that is only affecting this game so far. (Not to say it won't get worse and crash other things.) Just speaking from personal experience - when you get unexpected crashes and very few others are it is time to check each component one by one.

Been having this problem since the maintenance. It started crashing about once in 20 minutes and after about six crashes, I cannot stay logged in for more than 3-5 mins max. WTF

Found one fix for the issue. Try changing your configuration to use OpenGL instead of Direct3D.
Ensure that you are running the latest version of DirectX.

You can make sure you have the latest version by following the steps on Microsoft's Support Site (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/179113)

If that doesn't fix it, lets try editing the UserSettings.txt. The default location for that would be My Documents/The Elder Scrolls Online/Live

Open UserSettings.txt in Notepad and then locate the string SET GraphicsDriver.7 "D3D11" and change "D3D11" to "OpenGL"

You can hit Ctrl + F and paste in SET GraphicsDriver.7 to find the string easier.

After you've made that change Save and close Notepad and try launching the game again.

This fixed the crashing issue I've been having since launch. Thank you so much. The only downside is that it dropped my framerate from 50-60 to 30-40 but I'll deal with that for now until a real fix is in place.

For people who are having a crossfire problem with grafic cards i know the answer. a) Either you sell the 2 crossfire and get a new graffic card stronger and better.. or b) stop play EsO and spare some coins. For me both variants will work but i pick a) because money is not a problem...
