Would Cutscenes help the stories in the game.

There are a lot of stories in the game. But they really don't grab me that much. Even the main stories seem to get lost in the gameplay. I really think that if they added cutscenes with action and such to dramatize some of the better moments in the game the stories would be better. Usually the stories are told and conveyed however by an NPC standing still in front of you.

As we've seen in the past TES games, most of the story takes place in "scenes" where the NPCs act in the world, not separated out in a cutscene. The rest happens in dialogue.

I think of one I saw a lot in Skyrim. As you walk into Dragonreach in Whiterun for the first time, you overhear Jarl Balgruuf talking about dragons to his Steward while his Housecarl Irileth challenges you. This sets up why Balgruuf is interested in hearing what an escaped prisoner has to say about Helgen and why he promptly asks you to go to Bleak Falls Barrow. No cutscene, but a very immersive story.

Similarly, most of ESO happens in "scenes" not cutscenes.

    Um... what?

WoW only has cut scenes/cinematics in key lore points through out the game, may seem like a lot, but that is given the over all age of the game as a whole. SWtOR on the other hand, every other encounter or quest turn in is a mini movie... but have yet to see either game "hold lickle, widdle, wickle, liddle, little, or even normal hands" cause of random mini cut scenes.

    Anywho...
While it might be kinda cool for ESO to have a few, it wouldn't offer much since there is so much happening at once and all around it would take away from the larger scale and feel forced into more theme park, carrot on a stick aspect (imo).

Most people would just click through it anyway.

After the 3rd-4th play through most people would just find it annoying and slow down the gameplay.

It seems more immersive to see the "cut scene" without being distracted by entering an animation. Basically we have them, but greatly improved.

I think it would sometimes be nice to avoid other people and effects for a while. Like, the game pretends you're a solo hero, but it does so to each of the several "solo heroes" hanging around at any given place at the same time.

I agree, but Skyrim was a single-player game without other people standing in the way of the action. If you had to access that scene while there were a dozen or more people huddled around the Jarl, some of them with flapping Twilights and huffing bear summons, you'd miss out on most of the scene. And there wouldn't be as much "magic" the first time around; having other players running about is expected of an MMO, but it can really derail the immersion sometimes.

Just give us an option in settings to auto-skip if we want. Easy peasy. Then we could have a place to replay any of them as well, so people who didn't get to see or enjoy them the first time (like if it's in a dungeon and the group is rushing along) could watch the cinematics like a movie.

I doubt this would ever happen. But if it did, it'd be kinda cool.

Final Fantasy XIV for example has a lot of cutscenes . The game is full of them. Its also considered the MMO with the best stories. That most likely in my opinion is a big part of why.

Then if your "opinion" is to compare it to Final Fantasy (the best MMO which is purely subjective and we both full well know this is in-correct), your opinion is wrong. If you're going to make a suggestion at least put some damn effort into it.

I think the only cutscene is when you *spoiler

Start in a chapter and go back to do the vanilla storyline. It shows how you fell into the trap of worm cult and Mannimarco personally sacrificed you to Molag Bal

I don't think there are any more cutscenes in ESO

I didn't care for the cut scenes on FFXIV. Aside from some of the worse voice acting I've ever seen - they just weren't very interesting to me. I skipped most of them. A good story is a good story and doesn't need the aid of fancy graphics in my opinion to be compelling.

ESO has some good stories, though a lot of them take some time to get going and tend to drag a bit early on. Some of the NPCs tend to be a bit too wordy also - and a lot of the characters aren't as fleshed out as they should be. But it still has some memorable characters and good stories - more so than most MMORPG's out there I would say.

This is one area I have to give it to SWTOR. It has some very good writing and character development. Shame the rest of the game is so clunky.

Final Fantasy 14 was one I personally tried to see what the fuss was about I created a character started the game got through some quests leveled up some and still didn't find it interested me I kept at it kept going for some time reading people say it gets better in the later parts so I kept trying to push on but still never found anything that interest me. Maybe it's just not for me but it's never really interested me. I get some people like it but it's really not my thing.

I tend to agree with you. Over-all, I think they're a waste of resources. They may add to the game's production values, but do little to increase my enjoyment of the game itself. There are better areas to invest that kind of money.

Hmmm, if you think about it TES way of making it happen around you ingame is more immersive than a cutscene. You can actually pan the camera and see what you want and I love it that way.

We do have cutscenes, mostly in the dungeons, its just that the game doesn't take control of the camera.

Take the end of banished cells and the NPC stuff that happens after Rilis is dealt with.To all intents and purposes its a cut scene.

That was always a fun bit in DCUO cutscenes, players trying to be in them and running through some emotes.

All a cutscene really is, is either a scene setter or closer, in ESO we tend to get more of the latter.

Yep. Tried it, didn't have any use for it. Daughter plays the SP FFs, so do sister and nephew, but none of them were interested in 14. And I'm not even interested in the SP titles.

I'd agree that cutscenes aren't the way to go, but the current form of story telling through dialogue is quite static. Compare to the mainline games where more action or even character interaction happens outside of PC to NPC dialogue. There's a lot happening in the beheading scene at the beginning of Skyrim for example compared to ESO.

On a bit of a tangent, the dialogue trees are a lot more limiting in ESO, in mainline games you can express your personality and change the outcome of the story through dialogue whereas ESO is basically linear with some optional questions you can throw in. I hope they improve the ability to roleplay within dialogue, sure you can be a bad person in the DB and Thieves Guild questline, but there's not much of an opportunity to be a *** outside of that. I g=hope they improve both the dialogue and action outside of dialogue to improve the overall story telling.

I think that if cut scenes were integrated in a way that the player doesn't even notice that they are looking at a cut scene (like how it was done in The Witcher 3) then it would really push the game to a whole other level. I would be happy if they skipped a chapter just to integrate a feature like that as it would really push the immersion.

No thanks. I quite like the way ESO handles story.

My complaint in this department would be dungeons.

Seeing as how much pretty nearly everyone else you'll ever do any dungeon with has already done it and probably many times before, they understandably don't want to stand around while you get the story. So it feels rude to make them wait. Which means you essentially miss it.

If I could go through those dungeons at least once solo and experience the story content, that would be nice.

Cutscenes would feel too impersonal and will also ruin the immersion. When scenes happen in this game like previous TES games, you are there being a part of it. I sometimes even switch the PoV to watch them as if i were actually standing there watching everything take place, just stand behind the Adara'hai in the Maw of Lorkaj on First person view, quite the fantastic scene.

No. The greatest thing about the Half Life games was due to the story playing out in front of and around the player while you still had control. Wresting control away from the player to advance the story is not a good thing a lot of the time. It feels better when the story unfolds around me and not "at me".

Sorry but I'm tired of staring at the same old faces with the same old expressions and animations. ESO has some great stories but it's like an audiobook most of the time.

I can't begin to explain how incredible it is in games like FFXIV and SWTOR to see your player character up close right in the action at pivotal moments when something big is going down. That sort of cinematic storytelling really makes my character feel like a person and not just a robot who stands around like an idiot while everyone else talks, shows emotions and gets on with things.

Even WOW which is a hundred years old manages to include some cinematics involving your character where you get to see him or her really get involved with the action and you get that moment where you think "Wow this guys is a bad-ss".

And for FWIW, FFXIV: Shadowbringers was a triumph. Anything you heard about bad voice acting was only in the base game before they switched to a British cast who are amazing. There's lots to love about ESO but the voice acting is really hit and miss and the decision to make all elves British and use non-native actors who are terrible at the accent was a really bad move. See the Elden Root tour guide who is channelling *** Van D-ke in Marry Poppins.

None of this matters if all you want to do is run dungeons, dailies and PVP all day but if you actually care about questing and the stories being told, ZOS could do a lot more to get you invested make it actually meant something to your character and to you personally.

I literally cried real tears at the end of Shadowbringers and I don't cry ever. I thought I was dead inside lol.
