Observer roles for dungeons and trials

I really wish we could have some kind of observer roles (maybe more than just 1 observer) for dungeons and trials, so we could sneak peek our mates :)
(I didnt found other thread like this, so sorry if I'm duplicating stuff)

You can watch groups go through content via YouTube and streamers.

This. Also, don't forget, some groups simply don't want to show their strategies to others since they've been working hard to develop those.

Some people will talk about videos and streaming, which is valid, but it would be fun to have seats to watch and cheer the live action on your character. Especially if it the gallery was able to be opened or closed by the group leader and even set to invitation only. But it isn't something ZOS seems even remotely likely to spend development resources on.

Its an interesting concept and one I think ESO could benefit from. If you think about the training potential for guildies etc, it would be very useful for demonstrating mechanics etc before hand. And also simply for interest and enjoyment sake.

Its worth noting that "observer" functionality has been around in games for a very very long time. I recall playing Warhammer 40k - Dark Crusade, what 15 years ago now? (I played them all). For a time I was part of one of the best elite clans on the server, we regularly had lots of folk watching matches against other high ranking clans.

With YouTube, Twitch and more, it is no longer needed. We can get tank, healer and dps points of view for pretty much every trial and probably every dungeon.

Yes, it was great when it was the best and only way to really watch these instances, but now it is just a waste of time and effort to build a system to accommodate it when there is already a system that serves the same purpose.

It’s not the same, though, even if the purpose can be similar. Some would never touch scmucktoob, but utilize an in-game spectator tool. Sometimes one does not wantt the annoying chatter or music schmucktoobers add to their “content” or sometimes one wants direct control over what one observes. Even better, direct observer tools in games never came with advertizements and monetary schemes, as I can recall. They certainly didh’t collect data on people like schmoobtoob and other modern platforms do.

Agree. It also creates incentive for in-game player-led tutorials, and for guilds to illustrate expectations for new/lower level members -- and for players to provide real-time feedback to friends and guild-mates. That latter also provides a coaching value.

    Edit to add:

One of the guilds I'm in, the guild master creates an Xbox party and invites people interested to watch him and a group do vDSA runs. Broadcasting and all the while explaining the stages. He also does it regularly for dungeons if asked.

    ^ This very much

not to be a jerk or so, but why should a progression group, which has figured out a special tactic, show it to everybody?

if they add a spectate mode, then it must be a toggle option for the groupleader, so he can prevent ppl from joining into a dungeon / trial just to watch, while ppl which are in the group can normally play the trial

also might become a performance issue, since trails are already kinda performance heavy...having more ppl in them might no bee good for performance

    @SaintSubwayy

I agree, it should be guild/friends list only, and opt in for the active group.

no idea on how to make it fair, if such a system would work at all.

it should be a toggle, and whoever wants to watch, can type the @name of the person he'l like to watch into a separate window, then he'll get portet to the location the player is, and can only watch.....if the toggle is off, then there shoul dbe a error message stating that this group does not allow observers.

I'd think it would be a floating camera rather than actual player presence in the instance.

Well I guess that is your opinion and no problem, but the fact is that watching video content on twitch/you tube etc, while this is great, it is not the same as watching something like a Battlegrounds or Dungeon or Trial live, as its happening, and chatting to others about it at that time, all from the comfort of the game itself, without going external. That level of usability and quality of life improvement was around decades ago so I don't think the argument that there is no point developing it is strong.

And as I eluded to, this is not just about training/information etc. Its about enjoyment, community and spectating as a spectacle. Everyone enjoys watching something, be it sports or competitive gaming etc.

My opinion is based on logic.

It is superior to be able to watch the dungeon clear when it is convenient to you instead of waiting, and waiting, for a group to do the instance. Even then you would be crossing your fingers they were a decent group or you would be watching them wipe time and time again.

And if you think the good groups would let you watch them clear think again. They release to YouTube and Twitch what they choose to release. They would shut you out from watching them when they are working on their strat.

They would actually require Zos to allow them to shut players how from watching them and Zos would listen rather than alienate their best players for something that is not needed.

It is time to step up to the modern age and let go of things that used to work well and embrace the new technology that is superior. Twitch, YouTube and more are a much better alternative.
