Your ranged attacks will hit whoever's bar you have highlighted. If a boss has several minions around him, I have to be careful to make sure that my cursor is highlighting the boss instead of one of his minions - especially for my opening burst. Takzad the Packmaster (first boss in Fungal Grotto 1) is a good example of where it is easy to accidentally target a minion instead of him as you start the fight.

Ah, I see. I find that killing a mudcrab or bunny most often occurs when I pop a ranged skill that does not require a target and a poor critter just happens to be in the cursor at the time even though I was pointing in the general direction of that pesky sabre cat.

So I see what you mean. Popping a light attack arrow in the direction of a foe without specifically ensuring they are fully targeted can sometimes result in the death of a squirrel instead. And I agree that some means of prioritizing would be helpful.
