Why when I am aiming at an enemy target do my ranged attacks take out critters first?

This should not happen. Would be nice if that can be fixed.

Your ranged attacks will hit whoever's bar you have highlighted. If a boss has several minions around him, I have to be careful to make sure that my cursor is highlighting the boss instead of one of his minions - especially for my opening burst. Takzad the Packmaster (first boss in Fungal Grotto 1) is a good example of where it is easy to accidentally target a minion instead of him as you start the fight.

I am talking about critter that are yellow and not highlighted.

Critters don't even have a bar.

What you are talking about are other mobs that are highlighted in red.

Critters are the small animals you get baits from.

I love it when you hit the critter behind you instead of the enemy in front of you. lol

Yeah, critters have been a persistent problem for a long time. I have roasted many a little spider, centipede, frog, and squirrel in my time with this game. Fortunately, it has never resulted in anything more than an annoyance.

I always feel like a monster when this happens. Especially if it’s a vvardvark.

Who needs minions when you can shield yourself with a tiny mouse? The dungeon boss that does finally figure out how to recruit an army of the little guys would be pretty much untouchable.

Ah, I see. I find that killing a mudcrab or bunny most often occurs when I pop a ranged skill that does not require a target and a poor critter just happens to be in the cursor at the time even though I was pointing in the general direction of that pesky sabre cat.

So I see what you mean. Popping a light attack arrow in the direction of a foe without specifically ensuring they are fully targeted can sometimes result in the death of a squirrel instead. And I agree that some means of prioritizing would be helpful. :)
