Are lore breaking names bothering you?

I think OP has either not worded their message appropriately or is hyper sensitive.

Granted they use the example of Noobhunter . . ., however, a lore breaking name would be things like an Argonian without an actual Argonian name, or the same with High Elves or Khajiits.

I try not to get caught up in players names. Take note of the really interesting ones and ignore the absurd ones, especially the ones that lack any imagination and just copy of name of a character in another game or movie. That is so boring.

    But that is about it.

They do bother me but we have to tolerate / ignore them
I don’t play with nameplates showing. The only time I see player character names are if I am grouped with them (I tend to only group in guild nowadays). I also tend to ignore zone chat, unless I’m fishing.

In a perfect world op, we would all have lore appropriate names. In this world though, even the devs choose random character gen and use l33t-speak character names. It would be especially difficult to make this translate to console culture which is known for wacky “l33t” names.

I get your pet peeve though. Try to ignore it, or try to reconcile it. Maybe their parents are like this:

It's not always lore breaking, if you were named by someone of another culture for some reason theres a perfectly valid reason for it as I mentioned earlier.
Playing your character the way your character should play is all that matters. Play as well as you can but never betray the character. Doing so would make playing an mmoRPG pointless.

Doesn't bother me at all. It would bother me if NPC's started having non-lore names. But controlling players names is too much fascism for my taste.

They do bother me and some naming rules should be implemented
This might be a bit of a personal issue...I am somoene who always chooses an RP server if only so i dont have to deal with all the "Noobhunter5000XXX" of this world.

This is something that really starts bothering me, being in a dungeon or trial group and seeing those kinda names that are so incredibly lore breaking that they are hard to ignore and always stick out like a sore thumb.

Am im the only one bothered by this and do you think since we only got one server there should be naming rules in place?

Megaservers killed that, but they should have put RP Phasing/Sharding (and Language phases too)

Come on guys naming rules are draconian and moronic and limit real creativity and imagination. plenty of good names which could easily be "lore friendly' wouldnt be considered such by the stupid computer overlord deciding.

The whole MMO concept is lore-breaking. Millions of "vestiges" running around saving Tamriel from Molag Bal. Silly character names are just icing on the cake.

...they do bother me, a little. I am coming from a roleplayer side after all.

    But... well...

...for one, its not like I really need to even acknowledge the existance of those players when playing my characters through the game... I will just pass them by and refuse to give a fu... uhm... care.

...and for another... well... I suppose, a great many of those names can be considered "nom-de-guerre" nicknames people go by because reasons, so... I can work with that if I have to, and still keep my immersion intact, right?

...and in any case, I am -certainly- not going to be an stick-up-the-ar... e-hem! ...a narrow-minded person, I mean, and go out telling other people how they should have their fun as long as it does not damage mine!

If it amuses them to have funny names for their characters... let them, no skin off my nose!

I don't like name plates and I don't use it, thus I don't see any names in the game. When I play LFG dungeons etc. The players usually don't say hello just run and run, thus I don't have time to check names XD

I'm a RPer, and always give my characters lore accurate names, but I've also had a good laugh whenever I've seen a particularly clever name.

I divide when I'm IC and OOC though, rather than expecting everyone to be IC. When I'm IC, the silly names don't exist, when I'm OOC running around farming they do. Best of both worlds.

Lore breaking names don't bother me
Lore breaking names don't bother me at all, especially considering my characters name is kinda lore breaking (D-H but it stands for DragonHeart which is a reference to TES IV Oblivion). But even if I really was about it I wouldn't agree with limiting name choice freedom, how do you determine what names are allowed or do you just give players a list of names to select from to combine into a first and last name which would be worse than lore breaking names.

Besides, it's far too late to fix this.

    In this game... no.

There was a time it really bothered me. When i was playing Starwars Galaxies and even SWTOR.

In SWTOR the first guild i was in everybody had just names which fitted with the game. Then a new member came in called "Poepkorst", rougly translated: "Sh*t crust". And after that more silly named popped up. I was bothered by that in that game.

Lore breaking names don't bother me
Seeing someone's name floating above their head is already at least immersion breaking =). It doesn't bother me more than general crowd of people running around in flashy armours, with glowing skins, riding glowing/flaming/transparent/wooden/stone/etc. mounts, grouping around crafting stations, dueling at waypoints, running around through sneaking missions etc. I generally ignore other players in pve, pvp is already a bit lore breaking and harder to role play in and in rp guilds people generally tend to stick to the lore or at least don't have over the top names. Let's face it, unless you are on some serious rp server MMO's aren't exactly a good place to feel really immersed and sticking to lore.

They do bother me and some naming rules should be implemented
When teaming up with players for something like BG or dungeons, it doesn't bother me namely because I am not in a RP frame of mind whilst doing those activities. Most of the time, if I see another player when I am randomly wandering around doing PvE questing, I tend to just ignore them because I am focused on the quest.

But sometimes, in cities for example, when you can't really ignore other players - it can be immersion-breaking.

But the way I see it, they all paid for the game, too, and have the right to play it and name or dress their characters however they like.
