Because your more tanky that way.
CatchMeTrolling , I have barely played since the new patch. I was running AM/blood spawn, necro, and master lightning destro/resto last patch.

200 resistance and 5% more health (700) for 1 ability?
Sounds like a terrible trade.
@Amksed1991 , the advantage of armor master is that you get to keep that buff while running a master lightning staff for a cheap spammable and AOE pressure. The buff carries across bars and lets you keep up two 5 piece sets plus a monster set. Fortified brass doesn’t let you do that. Harness magicka is basically free sustain.

I'm a bg player first and foremost. You're not going to fare very well in high mmr bgs if you play magicka and don't use any defensive sets.

Depends on the class and player. Although I'm running impreg and trans on my magplar at the moment I don’t necessarily need it, known for running “glass” builds. Think it’s more of an experience thing. It definitely does make things easier to deal with for sure but playing in light & medium for the longest I can say you get so accustomed to “glass” to the point it’s not glass to you. I mean I even seen players like Jack Daniels run some pretty squishy builds. A lot of deaths can be avoided by proactively healing, movement and keeping buffs up.
I would recommend defense sets to people who have trouble staying alive or new to the game. But I still think magden already has enough mitigation, healing and utility in their kit to drop a defense set. Armor master is the exception for those that are relying on shields.

And if you back bar it, don't you only receive the 5% health if you are on that bar?
I feel like I would rather have Ice Fortress which will also give me 8% Minor Protection over the 5% health bonus which also costs Magicka over Stamina. That 8% damage reduction will easily out perform the 1K (ish) extra health you receive from Armor Master.
So yea, my vote is Fortified Brass over Armor Master.
@CatchMeTrolling , what’re you running instead? I’m not overly sure of what to back bar besides Lich/transmutation if I’m running master’s Lightning.
If you are running master's lightning, I would run necro on your body and willpower jewelry. With a random Restro staff back bar that provides mag recovery for the 2 piece.
