I just can't stick with it

I've played off and on since the beta. I love the locations, stories and quests. I just have never been able to stick with a character long enough to reach max level. I just cannot get into the class system. I've never found a class that I can play beyond 30 levels or so without getting massively sick of it and eventually I just stop logging in for a few months. Then I try again, hoping I can stay. Any help for me or should I just call it quits for good? I've already bought Elsweyr so I'm going to try the necromancer but I don't have a lot of hope.

If you feel like playing, then play. If not, then don't.

I might be the same way, unless you are really social characters didn't even become comfortable to play until they reached max level.

I doubt you’d be able to really tell much difference in classes at only level 30 or so. The toons are missing so much. You don’t have skill points enough for anything, not leveled up Weapon, armor or class abilities,

I mean if you aren't going above 30 and aren't willing to experience the game fully for this amount of time then just drop the game. There's nothing wrong about not being interested in ESO, but at this point you're just wasting your money and time.

You aren't giving it a chance really. I personally think end game ESO is fantastic after you get past cp160. You can farm for good gear sets as it will be scaled properly now and you won't have to worry about out leveling it. Getting to a point where you can start smashing your way through vet dungeons/trials. The first time clearing vMA. Give it more of a chance. I did the same when ESO first came out playing on ps4. I got bored and did not play for a few years. I finally decided to buy it again on pc as I converted to the PC master race and have played it every day since!

Even if your taking a break, that is no reason to delete a character. Just park them.

I would get a character to max level, THEN start a new one. Now I have 10 max characters, one for each class in a Magicka and stamina version. I’ll do the same when Necromancer comes out. That way, I don’t have to worry about nerfs to any one class, as I can choose any of them.

I have one character that is CP 170. I pushed myself to get there...now I rarely play her.
I do a lot like you, play characters until about 30 and then get bored with that character, so I start a new one.

What helped me was making specialist characters,which isn't great for end game but I wouldn't get end game anyway.
Ex I have a kahjit with maxed ledgermain and really enjoy pick pocketing with her. I have an adventurer/flower picker. Etc.
When I get bored of one, I switch to the next.

Play your way, and maybe join Altoholics Anonymous.
Or maybe ESO just isn't the right game for you.

If you feel there is a chance you'd want to try again, log in during a time when there are extra experience multipliers, and pick up some experience scrolls.

Tbh, if you've been playing on and off for 5 years and have never gotten past 30, than I dont think you're really invested in the game. I'm a little confused as to why you feel the need to start new characters if you dont really like it that much.

If you really liked the game and enjoyed playing than you'd know it takes just 1-3 days to hit level 30.

Find something you like and dont stress about it. Nobody is going to judge you because this isn't the game for you.

This isn't necessarily true, kind of insulting, and could be a huge demotivator for people like the OP if they read it.
I have plenty of characters that are lvl30-40 ish that I've played for weeks/months.

Not everybody races through the game, respect other people's playstyles if you post trying to be helpful.

This game does have a lot of "breakthroughs", where you suddenly are able to handle content you couldn't before.

Just before is the hardest part, and it looks like that's when you've been quitting.

By playing the game, I meant playing the game. A simple early quest can get you 2 levels just from turn in. I know that some people seem to have forgotten that this is an actual game with objectives and would prefer to run around smelling flowers, but if you follow the actual game the way it's designed than leveling is a non-factor.

Just an idea.

Perhaps if you get sick of classes you could run a built that uses only weapon skill lines or guild skills etc, something every class has access to. Then you wouldn’t have to restart because there wouldn’t be a point??

That's a pretty surefire way of not liking the game. If you hit level 30 in 1-3 days then you're not playing the game, you're just grinding the levels. That's a recipe for disappointment, assuming that you don't already have a few maxed characters and are just rolling an endgame alt with a specific purpose and build in mind.

People get far too hung up on leveling and endgame. Just play the game fully and let the rest take care of itself. Shooters are for people who want instant maxed-out PvP, MMORPGs aren't designed for that and will invariably disappoint those who play them with that aim in mind.

With the addition of experience scrolls given through the reward systems for leveling up it is a lot easier. Moving at even a moderate pace you can get a character to level 10 by doing the starting islands (stroas mkai, khanarthis, and the Skyrim one [lord I butchered the heck out of those])

I would say someone brand new could get 50 in about 3-4 week just playing moderately (say 1-2 hours per night).

But what seems to be the issue? Why do you get sick of playing so much that you need to take a break? Is there something wrong with the way they fight? With the abilities you like to use not working anymore?

Are you keeping up to date in gear while you play, trying to find upgrades to the gear you're currently using? I say this because ESO has a weird scaling system... sticking with out of level gear can potentially be disastrous to your performance to the point that every fight can become a slog... maybe that is what happening? Just genuinely curious!

Even with the 150% XP scroll used during a double XP event, not even the most long and convoluted questline will get you two full levels at turn-in. A simple quest will get you around 25% of your XP bar at early levels without scrolls. I'm an altoholic, I know this well

@dannymcgr81b14_ESO It's worth pushing a character through to 50 so you can start getting CP levels. They come insanely fast and will benefit all your alts too, which for altoholics makes this game significantly more fun! A level 50 character could also become your dedicated crafter, letting you create full training gear at blue quality or better for your new alts. Seriously, it's a fantastic game once you clear that level 50 CP160 hurdle. Level scaling means you can play through any zone or questline with brand new characters, and that's really refreshing. Your account is your character once you hit CP levels

Something I really wish ZOS would do though is get rid of CP160 as the max gear level and set it to level 50 instead. Hitting level 50 should feel like you've hit end game. Having another 160 levels to grind does not sound fun for new players, and it's only new players who have to do it, so they won't know it's not much of an extra step. It just feels demoralizing. I'd also boost the XP gain from 1-50, because skills come so slowly, and you can invest 30+ hours before you hit level 50 and finally have the skill build you wanted, before even starting on gear. It's a lot easier for us accounts that already have CP levels and crafters, because all our alts level with training gear and XP pots/scrolls. For new players... 1 to 50/CP160 is an insane slog...

I think for some it's a problem (like for me). I am invested into my characters. If I park them for several months they're dead for me when I return because I am not attached to them anymore - that's why I deleted at least 10 level 50s or more. It doesn't feel right to play them anymore after having abandoned them for so long.

One of the major issues about this game is the heavy grinding. You feel like an absolute garbage until you reach max level with your class, with enough skyshards, main stories completed and guild/alliance skills upgraded. Only then, interesting things start to happen. Some people simply don't care or notice this, others just learn to digest it.
The other issue is the crippling lack of inventory space that is absolutely noxious with new players that don't have the amount of gold to make bag/bank upgrades. Not to mention the crafting bag being behind a pay-wall.

If you can deal with these problems and are still not enjoying the game, it's probably time to move on. it's not your fault as some fans here will like you to believe.

Dungeon quests can do this.

Just don't look at level.
1st, before creat a char, think about what you like in style.
- The berserker one, who rush with his 2-hd into enemies to kick ass
- The sneaky ranger hiding in the shadow hunting is prey with arrow or assassinate with dagger
- The old wise man who research knowledge and get fancy spell
- The good guy who love to help other and heal their wound
- The badass guy who stand in front of monsters and put his shield on her face

Then, look if you'r more in :
- Shadow
- Dark Magic
- Poison
- Fire
- Light
- ...

And then start your own story, start with quest, don't look at your level, do all.
Take all the quest you find interesting, pick up all node, flower, skyshard, book you find.
Clean dungeon, delve, ..

And take it with fun.
Dont be like "awww again another stupid quest where I need to kill 5 mob".
Be more like "what ? Thief stole all money of this poor family ? Let's kick some ass !"

That a game, just have fun.
And if after all you can't, then maybe ESO is not the game you'r looking for ^^

I took too 1 month before I really start and say, "ok, stop low level alt, lets clean this game"
Now I've 3 lv 50 char, and 1 I've start yesterday.

The 1st I've lv up 50 was nice but in end it's not perfectly what I want so I've try to leveling some other and atm I kind of feel like the Templar healer is the good one for me.
The "RP" feet me perfectly and now I try to clean every quest and every boss with it in solo or with friend and it's fun

RPG consists of 2 parts, one is role-playing which U and your friends "imagine". And second part, but not second in priority - building optimal character for your tasks. In ESO unfortunately you need to reach at least cp300 before you can build anything interesting in numbers.

160 is enough to feel good.
I remember the 1st time I finished to farm my 1st 2 5pc set and then try it in a dungeon, it's was so different.
For me it's at this moment than you start to love your char and enjoy the game alot more than before.

And then come the motif-hunting to look cool (I'm at that part haha).
