Frostvault PTS: Substantially harder than previous DLC dungeons?

So at a time
  • when story is being locked into DLC dungeons for the first time
  • when many are increasingly frustrated with the ever-increasing difficultly of DLC dungeons
  • when many are calling for a story mode to let ALL players experience the content
  • when DLC dungeons make up 2/3 of ESO+ subscription DLC
the new dungeons seem to be set harder than any previous ones.

I get it, I do. Some people like these hard and harder dungeons. But what about everyone else? Some, many, people are here for the story, the lore, the social; and not for bosses with endless health which one-shot you over and over again. Sure, some people may find that fun. Kudos to them. But tying lore and story into that kind of content is not the way to get more people to play the DLC dungeons.

Think of it like this. Imagine a player who normally avoids DLC dungeons because of length and difficulty. Now that player is being pushed towards the hardest dungeons ever put into the game because of the lure of story. How is that player going to fare? Badly. Because some of you might like the challenge, some of you might find the DLC dungeons easy; but that's because you're used to playing at that difficulty. A player who is not used to that is simply going to have a miserable time.

If the DLC dungeons are aimed at elite, experienced top-end players, fine. Personally, I'm not happy about that, but whatever. But if that's who they're aimed at, maybe they shouldn't also be targetting 'story' and lore orientated players, at least without making some concessions to how those players actually play.

Story DLC is 'normal'. Dungeon DLC is 'hardcore'. Fine. But you're not going to miraculously make 'story' players hardcore by including story in dungeons.

You need to do better than this, ZOS.

    The new DLC dungeons of Wrathstone are so hard on veteran that we need some kind of elite group to do them, very sad. The mechanics are nuts, we are more stressing on it instead of having fun playing, sadly.

    hmmm, I feel my dungeon group had a harder time to clear the Wolfhunter and Dragonbones dungeons when they were released than we had with the wrathstone ones (talking vet, non HM).

    Don't particularly see them as a lot harder.

    Mm-m, actually, the dungeons felt rather mild to me, I didn't notice them to be any harder than other DLCs (speaking non-HM, only tried vDoM HM so far and I can't judge reliably - feels hard, but when it's halfway to morning for whole group, everything feels hard ^^). Had more issues back in the day with vFH or vFL than with new dungeons.

    On normal, the Wrathstone dungeons are as faceroll as other normal content, i.e. not as hard as nMHK. For people who want the story, then it will be easy for them to get it in a PUG running normal mode (which is what I did for both on the day of release so I could quickly learn the sequence of fights etc).

    In terms of vet, I felt these were perhaps of the level of vWGT, i.e. not that tough for a properly geared group that is co-ordinated. I'm a casual player, dinged max CP only November last year, and use crafted gear, so nothing special, and I didn't have a particular issue with these in vet mode but not yet tried HM.

    I'd say all the concerns that arose prior to release are unfounded.

    How do they compare to Fang Lair?

    A couple of years back there was a post on the forum that ranked all the dungeons. Using a rating of one to four. Curious how the dungeons from the last three expansions stack up.

    Frostvault is fairly forgiving on normal and not any harder on vet than e.g. BRF. It’s all about mechanics.

    They are new, mechanics are new people still need to adapt, doesnt mean they are hard
