I use familiar, matriarch, hardened ward, inner light, daedric prey. Ebony set jewelry / lightning/flame staff and Necropentice light armor. No issue spamming matriarch heals in vet dungeons and barrier ultimate if needed. With ebony/Necropotence my hardened ward is strong and I won't die as easily plus it buffs group even if just 1k health. Mainly just love the red orbs though. Pet sorcs make good healers and contribute DPS. We can tank, dps, or heal about anything. Strongest class all around by far :).

Agree with OP. Prior to Murkmire my sorc (lightning AoE, empowered ward, surge, boundless storm, matriarch, no VF) was very survivable and had mediocre dps - and that was fine by me. No one would ever call her overpowered.

After the shield nerf, she gave up much of what made her a mage and had to grab the same crap that melee warriors grab (more hitpoints and resists). End result is that she is less survivable and does quite a bit less than her previously mediocre damage. What's to like about that? What made her feel like a mage is gone and she is not very much fun anymore. *sad panda*

I'll never get my head around making shields effective for tanky builds (high health and resistances, low damage) that don't need it and decimating it for light armor mag dsp builds that do, thereby essentially killing a style of play. While it may resolved some issues in PVP, it had an absurdly bad affect in PVE. While the dev comments in the notes thought it would create some "interesting" builds, the net effect was it made a build like a MagSorc MUCH less interesting and fun to play.
