Does the point system in the forum do anything?

So, I've noticed in my forum profile there are lists of things, like LOLS, awesome, insightful etc. There are also badges that you 'earn' when you post or do things. All good, I understand all of these things etc.
But what of the point system?
I currently have 47 points on my profile, which is fine... I guess. I'm just confused as to what they do or what they are for. Can I accrue them and 'spend' them on something in the future at a shop perhaps? What's the actual point or purpose of them?

Not sure. Probably for something that will be implemented later on. I was wondering the same thing earlier.
I'm thinking some sort of Achievement system - more points = unlocking of different portraits, or forum 'titles'. Who knows?!?!BlackOmega

I'm hoping titles or some sort of 'enhanced' forum functionality. Not so much as a 'reward' for the active forum users (you could call it that though, I suppose).. But something to entice people to come and be active here.
I love being active in MMO forums. So some sort of titles or something would be interesting. Although I guess if you are a 'badge collector', you could show off your mad forum skillz by showcasing all your badges.

Again, no idea what this does right now, I guess I'll have to wait and see.
Oh, and Khajit's are great... when you turn them inside out and make clothes out of them, they are great for that.
