An underwhelming box?

For those familiar with my name for the last 2 days, Ive been playing the "forum" version of TESO due to lockout because I didn't have my box with the access code yet......I finally got my physical "boxed" version of the game in the mail today (from Amazon). When I picked it up though I had to give the package the ol' stink eye because it seemed a bit lighter than I expected. So I opened it and lo' and behold the "Explorers pack" version of the game (sorry I couldn't afford the Imperial) was nothing more that a pile of discs on a single spindle (which is not a recommended form of DVD storage to be sure) and two flimsy pieces of paper (one with my code on it! yay!) in a compact plastic case.

What was I expecting? Well when I bought D3, I got first off an actual BOX with leafs, a nice booklet with cool art, individually packaged discs, and multiple guest passes to allow my friends to try the game for free (oh and a writing pad!!! cha-CHING, score!). While we are talking Blizzard here, THAT is kind of what I was expecting and half of the reason for wanting a physical version of the game. Just something more than the bare bones, on the cheap minimum.

If I had known this is all I was going to get for my trouble, I would most likely have just purchased the digital only version.

/rant off......guess I will be playing tonight but truly sorry for others who are still waiting for their boxes to arrive. I WILL be thinking of you

So basically you are asking why the regular pre-order wasn't the collector's edition.

And had trouble actually reading what you were buying before hand?

You got what you ordered. Surely there was a description about what it contained?

Ugh. I've been anticipating - but trying to ward off with positive vibes - the same type of disappointment upon receiving my copy. Especially after the horrible tales of no game codes and broken statues.
This is all part of the game.

errm no, I wasn't expecting a race unlock, 2 extra days of play time, a horse, crab and whatever else the Imperial edition had. I was however expecting something MORE than this. The D3 box I mentioned was what everyone got, nothing special.

I have bought "collectors" editions before and gotten maps, full art books, etc for the price of what the Imperial edition was priced at. I didn't want that this time but it seems Zenimax downgraded the "CE" to what other game companies would consider normal and just offered a lot of in game perks instead.

Like I said, I was underwhelmed.

Sorry to hear you're not pleased with the box @PlagueMonk, but I am glad to hear you're finally gonna get to play.
You've been one of the level-headed ones here on the Elder Scrolls Offline forums; see ya next downtime :)

The imperial had all those things. It was the CE. I don't see your point.
