Why will you be keeping your race the same?

Here I am wondering what makes people keep their races?

For me it goes as so

Bosmer Sorc healer - orginally picked bosmer cause it connected most to me on emotional level... thought sorc was an accident. I sometimes think to turn it to altmer but just feels wrong.

imperial dk tank - XD cause wanted to try meta for once. Didn't work out very well and was a shield tank before it was meta then I just let character float around till I finish it's new concept. I will be keeping it because I am a purest and imperial seems like a traditional tank over nord. I want to be that gal who rezzing group from 7 wipes and not that one who toots more horns as a tank.

Reguard Nightblade - I can't remember if I made this as a tank first or a dps.. but it still works for both well so keeping it.

Breton Dk Healer - I originally made this to stack resistances, but found it goes well with sustain issues for class. Also dk healers are really good in pvp so extra ap gain is nice. Also now it makes really good dps if I want to go that route later.

Dummer Nightblade - Made it for fire damage and extra dps on nightblade, but will keeping it as sometime to maybe a hybrid out of as dps or just a healer/dps role. Either way works

Altmer templar - I will be keeping it cause I am too lazy to switch and skill could make dps/healer hybrid with it.

Khajitt Warden - I will be keeping it for my stamina healer or stamina dps cause it still works well and even better then before.

Orc Sorc tank - This is only race concept that got destoryed for me. I made this one for regain stats, but I kinda think my concept would do better as a bersker tank who loses health and uses sorc excess block migration to compensate for a lack of resistances.

So tldr for me it's laziness, attachement, and finding new ideas to use current race of character is why I keep my characters. On that note I change them when my concept no longer works or can't find another to use with that race.

The differences are quite small, so no compelling reason to change. Like every other balance change before this one, a slight tweak here and there and its Business As Usual

Because I picked the races to "fit" those characters, not for any particular racial or for Maximum Power™.

(I don't believe in "race/class/alliance/etc change" anyway. If you want a different character, make a new one. Worst thing in Diablo 3 was the infinite/easy respec & gaining skills automatically by level. Absolutely no reason for me to make a second character of any particular class, as opposed to Diablo 2 where I made new ones all the time in order to try a new skill build. Of course, I never played D2 for the level-99 "endgame" boss grind. I actually never got any characters into Hell difficulty - was always making new ones. :D )

My main is a nord vampire that I created in Skyrim and I’ve grown attached to him, so I’m not changing him at all.

The other ones, not going to change their race or anything about them either- except for my Altmer, who’s going to stay an Altmer but go from a sorcerer class to Necromancer when that rolls out.

They're characters first, stats second. Any other way of seeing them just makes playing the game not enjoyable.

I do try to keep them in mind when making the character, but sometimes inspiration just goes in the other direction and I end up with an Altmer Stamina Nightblade character that I enjoy very much.

(Kinda funny though, that the original Altmer passive rework would have actually benefited my Altmer Stamina Nightblade, but now she's back to not getting anything useful out of her passives :D )

<-- This :). While my characters may get a makeover or even respec due to major in-game events, I find it difficult to think of RPing reasons for a race change.

For example ... my Imperial magplar had escorted an Aldmeri damsel in distress (a lost new player) to the Werewolf shrine in Rift. While he was standing there studying the map to see where he wanted to go next now that he had delivered the lady, he was bitten by a second werewolf who had just arrived at the shrine.
Turned with his pants down, so to say.
This came as a total surprise; I already had a werewolf character and had not planned on playing another one, so I wanted to seek professional help and have my magplar cured. But after doing the initial WW quest, the lad decided that being a shapechanger would help him in his quest to kick Mannimarco's butt. He talked me out of visiting the next temple and subsequently respecced to stamplar.
Well, if Bosmer bites were infectious, he would have been at the temple in about two minutes time. This character can't stand Bosmer ... they creep him out.

The only reason why I'm changing is that some of my toons does not have any sense and I wanted to change them anyway. Now, ZOS is making me do that for free. Cool. I don't have much crowns.

I play all of my characters differently. They are all just for fun. None are created with any thought for min/max, competition, or any other motive. I enjoy playing many different races and classes so no need for me to change any.

One of my PvP characters is a Bosmer bow ganker. The loss of the "10% damage from stealth" bonus is going to gimp him, because he really does do nearly all of his damage from stealth. It's pretty much a straight 10% damage nerf for him. He's the only one of my 15 characters I'm thinking of changing.

The choice is Dunmer or Orc. I've done some testing on PTS and, given the particular tactics I use, there's no difference in damage between the two. The character is AD, so Wood Orc would make more sense from an RP/lore perspective. But, that Dunmer magicka pool increase is just too much to pass up on. So, I think I'm just going to try to make a Bosmer-shaped Dunmer and put the soul shriven skin on him. I might have to make him stage 4 vamp as well to compensate for the loss of stealth radius, and give him back some stam regen. Good job I didn't build the original character for cuteness.

For those who think "Oh, just make a new character" - this Bosmer character has a relatively high AvA rank, and I don't do many hours of PvP. Getting knocked back from Tribune to Recruit might take me more than a year to make up. One of this character's long term objectives if to make Legate. Getting that extra shade of black is very important, you know.

ESO doesn't have a class change option, so that one will stay a sorc. :)

    ____

The race changes won't make a noticeable performance difference to any of my characters, which is not to say I don't continually work at improving (and do improve in small wonderful increments daily) but rather that I'm not temperamentally inclined to spend the necessary large amounts of time in contexts where the 1% or so difference that would be noticeable via scores or addons would be important. I do marvel at the degree of efficiency end-game players achieve and adapt the theories that make that possible for them in order to improve at what I do, which is mostly soloing content (for instance, there was a time when I avoided vMA but now I'm addicted and run it pretty much daily).

Yes. They are what they are. Changing their race would destroy any kind of immersion the game offers.

Honestly I think people are making too much of the changes. They wouldn't be making them if they didn't think it made the game better.

Too expensive to switch them all. I have no attachment to race or appearance. I would gladly change classes between bosses if it made sense and was free.

My characters are distinct because of skills they have access to, and role. I make them look different so I don't get confused. The only value race brings me beyond passives us the occasional race-specific bit of dialogue. The latter almost never matters though as I only clear new narrative content on my main.

I think my 3 year Argonian main is growing fur for an all-around buff. I've made several passes through the race/appearance change screen on PTS and taken screenshots of the sliders.

I have no other planned race changes, but some of my other khajiit and dunmer might be swapping between stamina and magicka roles if I get bored.

Edit: I misread the question as "will you be keeping your race the same?"

I picked a number of my characters' races for RP/cosmetic reasons. I also have at least one character of each race. So if I start changing one character to another race, I may have to change another character to the first race. That's more work than it's worth.

So actually been thinking about it. Wouldn't that extra penetration help with lose to gankers? Also with health detect you can gank the gankers first...maybe...

I create characters. None of my characters are transracial. It's pretty much that simple.

There is one time I used a name/race change. I had a stamina DK built up and was going to redo that character as a stamina templar. Instead of deleting the stamina DK, I decided to name/race change him into a new character that was going to be a magicka DK. The results of that experiment were... less than optimal. Not because the magicka DK didn't work, but because you seriously loose something in the storytelling process if you don't take a character through the leveling process naturally. Eventually I just deleted that name/race changed character and redid him from scratch. It's not a mistake I'll make a second time.

The changes aren't enough to warrant it for me. I'm not going to change a race just to try to eek out another .01% DPS. If I do decide to change one of their races later on it will be for flavor only.

There's lots of reasons to change. Maybe your favorite race wasn't as great as option as it is now or just want to try out a new concept.
