Some people attribute too much importance to mount training. They seem to think that a character is useless until it has maxed all the mount stats (and unlocked all the skyshards). Allowing such things to determine whether or not you roll another character is absurd. You don't have to log all your characters in every day to complete training any more than you have to do all the dailies with them every day. Just play the game and these things will all fall into place over time, and time is what MMOs are all about rather than instant achievement.

    Yep.

Honestly, I'm shocked to hear people say they actually pay crowns for those lesson things. They seem like such a waste of money.

(but yeah - I don't pvp, and I've never bothered to train Stamina on any of my characters. I train to 60/0/60.)

I get a allowance of crowns with ESO+ sub, not much in the crown store interests me. So when I make a new character they get fully horsed up.

Im surprised that intrests you more than everything else on the crown store

I plan to spend my stock of ESO+ crowns to get my future level 1 Necromancer 60 Riding Speed as well. This is because I am also pretty much uninterested in everything else in the crown store, more or less, for various reasons.
    • I don't care about mounts, pets, outfits, or dyes. I've never bought a single one.
    • I don't care about housing and furniture. At all.
    • I don't buy crown consumables. I'm a master crafter; I don't need them. Plus, daily login rewards.
    • Daily login rewards grant enough EXP scrolls for my taste.
    • I will never purchase crown crates. I always have and always will boycott cash shop loot boxes in every game.

    And so on.

There's just not much for me to buy, and I've been sitting on my crowns for upwards of a year.

Unfortunately, ZOS will never remove the training since they make money selling the training.

This is one of the reasons i only have two characters. With a family, home and career i simply don't have time to invest in too many alts.

I have always said that if this game was still subscription based, horse training would be account bound.

I'm still surprised horse daily training is still a thing after all the game has been through. So many changes and updates and you still have to log every single day with every single character to get 1% max run speed or bag space.

Its purpose was clear at first, make people log in everyday and make an extra $ on the side for those who are too lazy to.

Now lets look at what the game has become now, there are crown crates, houses, and a ton of crown store items and should make way more than horse riding lessons ever did, also I think most people will prefer to use their crowns on better items than horse lessons, so the $ value of those lessons are really not that big. Also now there are daily log in rewards which are actually much better then horse riding lesson to keep people logging in, the end of month rewards are most of the time really worth logging in everyday.

So why is this still a thing? Only thing it accomplishes atm is discouraging players from making new characters, I personally am still considering all the pain I will go through to train my 2 necromamcers when Elswyr comes out, even considering making just one and switching roles.

Just make it possible to train as many points as you want per day or even make it like 10 points per day or something.

Plz ZOS @ZOS_GinaBruno try to send this feedback to those in charge of this business model. It is just hurting the game at this point.

Massively missing the point of this system. The gold needed for training is so minimal that time is the only real cost. Seriously, at 250g a training session, that's only 45k gold to fully train at the stables, which is nothing. So asking to remove the daily horse training limit is essentially the same as asking for the minimum horse speed to just be automatically raised to the maximum, with the same for stamina and carry capacity. No thank you.

It's fantastic there's a reward system for doing in-game dailies. The alternative would be nothing to look forward to because everyone automatically gets everything from the start. That alternative sounds like a pretty pointless way to play. So play the game as intended and please stop with these threads asking for free handouts.

Edit: Seriously, I think that anyone asking for such things should have to go back to the old way of horse training, where they had to train every single mount separately.

people like you is why we dont get nice things, there is a difference between reward for actually doing something worthwhile and what horse training is, there is a ton of more rewarding things in the game and the mentality of everything needs to be a tedious chore is what is wrong with mmos. you dont do anything special to earn this, you just do a mind numbing task more frequently

I think it's more a case of not everyone finding such things tedious chores in the first place, and not looking for rewards in everything they do.

If you don't consider horse training worthwhile then don't bother with it. I rather assume, however, that it's precisely because you consider it to be worthwhile that you want to complete it quickly rather than over a period of time.

I wish zos would let us train each stat once a day. It would make it easier and faster and retain the log in daily design. I also want zos to release a stable master npc for our homes so we can do it more at our leisure. I would gladly pay 5k crowns for it.

    __________________________Backstories:_________________________

Ras Kalik the Vestige, a renown Redguard warrior; He has been blessed to save Tamriel from Molag Bal’s destructive Planemeld while reuniting the Five Companions. His further accomplishments after defeating Molag Bal, has been to stop the destruction of Morrowind, the Clockwork City, return order to the isle of Summerset and create a new king in Wrothgar and a queen in Elsywer. These events have made him a living legend and continue to lead him into new adventures throughout Tamriel, as well as into the hearts of many ladies including the Elf Queen, Aryenn. Over many years of adventurous travels, Ras Kalik had become a loner, until he re-visited his homeland of Alik'r.

Alik'r and it's cities were overrun by the undead Ra-Netu and therefore he made an allegiance with Alik'r's own Ash'abah tribe. These Ash'abah with his help, cleansed the city of Sentinel in Alik'r desert and it's surrounding areas of the undead brought to life by the Withered Hand. After rescuing Sentinel from the undead zombies, King Fahara’jad’s personal bodyguard the Goliath of Hammerfell, who was given this name by Imperials in the region; was asked to assist the tribe after learning of the defeat of the Withered Hand to the Ash'abah. Kalik promised Goliath he would task him with fighting living enemies on the battlefield if he so desired. Goliath being a Yokudan warrior wields a massive sword in respect to the Ansei, a gift given by the Imperial, Cinan Tharn. Not many soldiers are able to wield double two handed weapons, but Goliath loves to get up and personal in a fight, so he also carries a giant maul, both weapons laced with magical flames.

Jux Blackheart is a master thief that masquerades as a Bard at the Sisters of the Sands inn, with his younger sidekick Lucky Hunch for pilfering and gambling during this time. Jux was known to infiltrate any towns bank vault he came across and even delved into Ayelid ruins without detection. Kalik can vividly recall the night he met the famed thief. Jux found himself rummaging thru a slightly inebriated Kalik’s pocket for too long, on a full-mooned night and because of his greed and the glimmer of his golden armor in the moonlight. He lost his left pinky fingertip as a lesson! But in return, he gained a new friend, as it was his first time since a child being caught red-handed...

Upon arrival back in the Alik'r after many moons of adventuring, Ras Kalik ventures to Bergama. Visiting The Winking Jackal, he runs into Jux Blackheart, who introduces him to the coin game Crowns vs Forebearers (Heads vs Tails) and Golden Dwemer (RBG).... Jux constantly takes gold from the unfortunate thru theft or gambling, his biggest gambling victim is actually his partner in crime known as Lucky Hunch the Gambler. Lucky doesn't mind losing any gold coins to Jux... as Jux saved him from Altmer slavers in Summerset, by stealing a key and sending him on a boat to the mainland years prior. Lucky spent years in slavery with Khajiits in Summerset and picked up the art of subterfuge, using illusion magic disguises and stealing there.

Kaotik Von’Daemon an outcast, and a half-caste between a Breton mother and a Redguard father. Kaotik become a pariah due to his conjuration of Daedra pets. He was taught healing magic during his childhood years by his Breton mother. His father due to Redguard customs exiled him from the desert, sending him by wagon caravan to be a soldier in the war in Cyrodiil. He happened to meet Kalik while traveling from Alik'r, during this long caravan ride the caravan he was in was ambushed in Bangkorai by a group of bandits. Kalik by chance was also traveling thru this area on his Auridon Warhorse (which was bestowed to him by his friend, Darien Gautier). During this ambush, Kalik was able to rescue five hostages from the bandits. Kaotik was the first rescued, and Ras Kalik also recruited him to be in the Ash'abah tribe. These core Ash'abah tribesmen may never be seen together in travel as they partake in their own adventures but they always know what each other is doing; as they frequent a hideout in northern Bankorai. Their hideout an old Orc castle ruin, is kept watch by Nuzhimeh and she passes messages written between them, and frequently they also enjoy her company and her bed.

The other men rescued were a Dunmer banker, an Imperial mercenary and two other soldiers, an Imperial and a Breton Knight, stating proudly he was an Akavir descendent. One of the Imperials, Cinan, claimed to be related to Abnur Tharn the Battlemage of the Imperial Elder Council (One of Ras Kalik's mentors in the Five Companions). Cinan Tharn was really Abnur's drunkard treasure hunting illegitimate son. He was caught smuggling artifacts out of the Ayleid ruins in Cyrodiil and the elder of the two Imperials was Tyrus Septim a retired Imperial navy battle-mage (now a Lycan mercenary living in the city of Rimmen) and guard to the Tharn family. As much as Abnur Tharn hated his half-sister Euraxia, he dislikes his bas†ard son Cinan more. Tyrus now a ruffian and privateer had been paid by Abnur Tharn to watch over Cinan as much as possible. Cinan Tharn a drunkard, loves to drink at least a quarter barrel of Nord mead before he raids various delves and dungeons for relics to sell on the black market. Cinan also plans to one day, run an illegal gambling ring... which he thinks will net him more gold for his wares.

The Dunmer captive shackled to the Imperials looked familiar to Kalik from his time in Morrowind.... and he recognized him as Tythis Andromo a House Telvanni slave-owner and banker from Vvardenfell. During a rough interrogation to Tythis, Ras Kalik learnt why the bandits accosted him. The racist Dunmer was providing slaves as soldiers for the Three Banner War. The bandits were trying to negotiate a lucrative ransom for Andromo and the Imperials.... Kalik did not need any of this gold and he could never set Tythis free as he did with the two Imperial soldiers. His past involvement with slavery and war crimes, made Kalik's blood boil. He chose not to execute Tythis, as he figured the worse punishment for this former rich and opulent slave owner, is to now be an imprisoned servant for Ras Kalik and the tribe.

Herzog Zwei the Genesis a reknown Imperial/Akavirri battle-mage. His roots going back to Akavir through his mother’s bloodline. (His mother is descended from the Akaviri, through Versidue-Shae, and his Imperial father met her in Hakoshae, while traveling) Herzog earned the nickname "the Genesis" from his father as a child, as he was his mother's first born child, and last, as she tragically died in child-birth.

Herzog was seeking to purchase an artifact from Cinan Tharn, before their capture and was meeting Tyrus while in Rimmen, who introduced him to Cinan. This artifact being the Ayelid artifact; the sword Sinweaver. After their rescue and the exchange of gold to Cinan for the sword he decided to slip away before Ras Kalik could question who he was, and why the Akavir descendant really wanted that sword. Herzog was headed to Nagastani — An Ayleid ruin in eastern Cyrodiil. He had read in scrolls that the Sword would give him magical powers to meet his mothers spirit, if he performed an Ayleid ritual at an old shrine hidden there. Equipped with the artifact sword, he was off to start his own adventure but Ras Kalik, did indeed notice the sword however and instead sent a letter to Jux Blackheart (whom also was interested in Ayleid treasures), to attempt to find Herzog and acquire the sword. (*Azani Blackheart in Elder Scroll's Oblivion is Jux's descendant some 747 years later)

And so the Redguard, Imperial and Akaviri men parted ways ... While Ras Kalik went off to Elsweyr to encounter the latest threat to Tamriel, with Abnur Tharn and Sai Sahan - - DRAGONS!! Little did Ras Kalik know a few people were awaiting him in Senchal besides Sai. A necromancer survived his attack on the Withered Hand, while in Alik'r. The necromancer known as Auriek Siet'ka is also following him to the land of the Khajiits and Cacique the Sage of Ius a Shaman mystic who has become attuned spiritually with Tu'whacca (a Redguard God) and Ius (the Animal God), after being burned severely by the escaped dragons in Elsywer, is awaiting his arrival also. Aurik is a soldier of the Daggerfall Covenant that was introduced to necromancy while in the military, even though this magicka art is not spoken of openly by most of the Military leaders. He came to Alik'r and worked with the Withered Hand before Ras Kalik intervened on their plans. After the defeat of the Withered Hand, he aligned with the Worm Cult, and is constantly adapting and perfecting his necromantic arts.

After his journey to Rimmen, Kalik heads south to Senchal, in the southern regions of Elyswer. This new adventure will also put him on a path to meet a strange Redguard man. The stranger which was infected with an untreated Peyrite disease and also was the exiled from the Order of the New Moon cult, due to his sickness. He originally joined the cult to worship Laatvulon, the green dragon, mistakenly thinking it was the Daedric prince Peyrite. This confused and suffering cultist is known as Tsar al-Bomba and he is on a path to spread the disease. He was originally infected in Orccrest while recruiting members there. Can Ras Kalik and the shaman Cacique cure this poor soul, only time will tell. Little does Tsar al-Bomba know, that his infection is tied to Vampirism, and eventually the desire for blood will take over his mind. Senchal also offers Kalik his latest love interest... Aeliah. Whom he fondly led thru battles with the Dragonguard.

After the trek thru the heat, tropical and desert climate of Northern and Southern Elyswer, Ras Kalik heads north to the cold mountain range of Skyrim. His companion friend Lyris beckons for him with a letter sent by crow...

Movárth Piquine - a former vampire hunter (now infected), within the Fighter's Guild (and a secretive necromancer) was in Skyrim working with the Morthaal Guard. On a patrol mission he was caught in Frewien's ice curse outside of Morthaal with the frozen undead. Movárth's vampiric infection kept him from becoming an undead minion to the curse. He was able to use necromantic ice-magic to encase himself safely until he was freed with Freiwen, when the Vestige Ras Kalik broke the curse.

Uri Ice-Heart - brother of Urfon Ice-Heart. The twin sons of Atli and Oljourn Ice-Heart. The Ice-Heart family are originally from Markarth but now reside on the Jerall Mountain range near Cyrodiil, with their younger sister Araki. The twins had joined the Winterborn Reachmen while living in Markarth. Urfon pushed west to Orsinium with the Winterborn Clan, leaving his family behind. Uri stayed behind with his parents and sister to live in the family cabin for safety, avoiding the Vampire plague infiltrating the Reach. After news reaches him and he hears of Urfon's death... Uri leaves and heads home and is seeking vengeance. Meanwhile, his sister has also moved on to Windhelm to join the Fighter's guild. He will visit his sister, once before going to seek vengeance and she will craft him armor mixed with ice, called Stalhrim armor. Uri fearing death, after his brother's passing, falls victim to the convincing talk of Movárth at a Nordic tavern, and will also becomes a vampire.

Yes, people still buy ww/vamp, rather than try and get one in game. Some people don't realise you can even get one from another player. For others, it's just convenience.

It's the same with resets- you can do them ingame, but some people will use crowns instead as it's too much effort to go to the shrine...

I tend to pimp out my new toons with some riding lessons and a bit of stam plus a bit of loot space. For new players the loot space is quite welcome as the cost of expanding bags for a completely new player ingame is quite high.

But I like the fact you can't just buy your way ingame to maxed out horse, it's become part of my daily routine on my alts working on their stam and carrying. Takes a few extra seconds per toon.

So there is a demand for them, and no, you shouldn't be able to max out ingame on day one. What next? Instant level 50 alts as it's too much effort to level them? Instant skyshards? Instant crafting? If you want these things, you're missing the point of the game which is the journey.

Actually I think ZOS may lose money on this. I mean each time I have idea of some new cool build, I wanna go create new char and even buy slot for this, and then I remember about horses and magic guild levels, and i just stop, cause it's unbearable.

Exactly the same for me. I have tried making and playing new chars but just get bored of the grind. I have basically been playing the same char since I started.

Yeah, both tie back to when the game was subscription mandatory, so that you wouldn't be able to "do it all" in less than a month. If you wanted to be a master crafter, you'd need to be coming back to finish your research.

As for the joke, we know the crown store was in the works before launch. Either Paul Sage or Rich accidentally mentioned it in an interview back in 2013. (Can't remember who, right now.) But, horse training was, probably, designed from the ground up to be a, "keep coming back," system. Especially given that, originally, each mount was trained separately.

In fact, the transition over to character wide training specifically cited the introduction of the crown store as a major reason. Since having to train up each mount would be an impediment to buying new mounts.

I think they should either allow you to do it two times a day or three times per day. But I think what they could do is make it 4 each day. Sure there will be those that will buy them just to max out, a character upon creation. But yeah I think once a day is to long and well they need to allow us to give them more then one meal. Even houses need to eat.
So three or four would be the right number.

I'm one of those that actually make my alts in advance. I'll get a character idea, work on their sliders on PTS, then recreate on live when I am happy. Then they go through enough XP to be able to get certified in writs. And then they sit. They do crafting writs to earn money to train horses. I might play them here or there (I played them all during Undaunted event) but I'm not rushing them along any quest lines or trying the max them out.

I do quite like this idea and think it could be great middle ground.

What I would like is to allow people to purchase multiple trainings per day, but at an ever increasing price which gets reset on the next day to the usual 250g. It's a gold sink, it's alt-friendly, it reduces "grindiness" and still leaves a reason for horse upgrades to be sold.

Either that or just allowing people to buy multiple days at a time (buying 2 lessons puts the timer at 40 hours, 7 lessons at 140, etc. Would likely finish a tiny bit faster but could at least schedule it in advance since there are now other login incentives).

Some nice suggestions in this thread for QoL changes to the horse training system.

Personally, I'd like to see this:
    • allow all 3 skills to be purchased 1x per day
    • allow for days to be purchased in batch up to max 7 days

The trade off would be that skill points are earned at completion of the timer instead of immediate whereas crown lessons are immediate upgrades.

To answer OP's question, no. Not at all.

I am all for a change if they make it where there are two options. one is as it is now. the other is you pay in increments with each being more expensive. that way if you have the gold you can get it all now or can wait. an example is the first five points costs 1k gold, the next five 2k gold, the third five 3k gold and etc.

The horse training is a hassle. If your character is in Vivec City, it takes some time to get to the "stable". If your character is in Rawl'kha (or Shornhelm) instead, other things take longer.

I usually move characters from Rawl'kha to Vivec City when they're done with adding bag space and riding speed. Some of them still haven't maxed stamina a year or more later.

For every character you have at level 50 the cap should raise by 1.

Your 10th character would take 6 days per stat.

Also they need to do something about the skyshard situation.

Skyshards prevent me from making new chars way more than riding.

I'd be fine with paying the already established gold price per lesson...but just REMOVE the darn restrictions. If I want to pay a few thousand gold to max out mount training all in one go, I should be able to!

I have nice things. 11 of my toons are completely done with the stables and I love how awesome their mounts are now. My other 4 toons are 2/3rds of the way there. It took some work but is totally worth it. And calling it "work" is a stretch cause it only takes a moment to visit the stables each morning.

So I'll correct you. Your laziness is the reason why you don't have nice things. All this time asking for freebies on the forums could have been better spent logging in and training at the stables.
