US here. I read a couple of people it took an hour or so. But for me it's still pending.

Hyperventilate✭✭✭It depends on your bank and method of payment. If you paid via credit card, your bank in a *legal* sense has up until 30 days to remove the auth. charge.
You can always call your bank and see if they can expedite the removal or see if they have more information for you.0 -
I called yesterday, she said that it looks like they took the money but it's still pending because they didn't complete it (So they are taking it and then putting it back what?) The bank said I should call them today and dispute it if it's still not back. Though I am busy today so I will do it when I am free (giving ZoE more of a chance)1

Saerydoth✭✭✭✭Yes, but it's expected. I did the transaction on Friday afternoon. It takes 3 business days (not 3 days) for the transaction to either settle or drop off. Today is the 2nd business day. I expect it to drop off at the end of business tomorrow. This is a bank thing. I used to work in IT for a bank so I'm pretty familiar with how it all works.0 -

Yes, but that will still cause an authorization hold on the account. Completely normal.

Banks like making money. Banks are not there to help you, they are there to make money. Therefore, if they can do anything to keep a preauthorization open they will because it can lead to more profit from them. From the number of people who have reported the pre-auths dropping within a few hours, it appears Bethesda is doing their part. It is up to your bank to be fair and honest from that point on.0 -

You're lucky to have found an honest bank manager that was upfront with you. I learned about how it worked by working in IT for a major bank. But yes...ANYTHING a bank CAN legally do, to keep your money on hold and "unavailable" to you, they will. They will obey the letter of the law. If the law says they are allowed to hold your funds for 72 hours, they will hold it for 72 hours, not one second less. And when they say 72 hours, they don't really mean 72 hours. They mean 72 business hours, or 3 business days. Saturday and Sunday don't count in their world.
Credit cards (as opposed to debit cards) authorization holds are allowed by law to stay on there for 30 days.Edited by Saerydoth on April 8, 2014 9:33PM0
