Can Someone Explain All the Race Change Talk?

Greetings,
I've just started playing again after quite some time and I've been seeing a lot of "are you going to race change" talk.
What exactly is happening that would precipitate this? I've only got a level 16 character at the moment so if this is something I can benefit from by re-rolling, now would be the perfect time to know about it

I would suggest reading the PTS patch notes or at least pinned message from Gil about what they are doing. He explains it very well.

Their goal is balance and to give multiple choices for different types of builds. It also seems they may be simplifying some of t to reduce server load but that’s a guess.

Depends on what kind of player you are. If you're casual it's perfectly fine to choose whatever race. Race isnt super important unless you're doing leaderboard score runs in pve.

Some races are better for certain things, but again, it's not that big of a deal, especially for someone like you with no CP or even a level 50.

Argonians has nerfing coming but ZOS chickened out and gave most back.

Devs are desperately trying to find a reason for people to play imperials now that they fundamentally changed the game out from under their one appeal.

They were about to make khajiits the best at everything in game in order to get more Elsweyr sells but then decided breaking game wasn’t the way to sell it.

There are now two options for tanking. Play a Nord or hire a Nord.

Developers realized orcs we’re getting wedgies and swirlies after school so they finally threw them a bone. They will be good stamina DD.

High elves got pranked on a legendary scale. They said they were getting a super amazing passive but now it’s one some players won’t even spend skill points on. Best guess is that Devs finally picked up a copy of Skyrim and thought they could change future with a good nerf.

Dark elves got put where they have no reason to exist, then devs went to fix that only to realize they never had a reason to exist.

    Hope this helps. 😉

One asks oneself: why did I choose this character?
If the answer is “no particular reason (looks only, staying with friends, why not, etc)” then the changes don’t affect you.
If the answer is “because they have an established precedent for x and I’m super interested in x” then depending on the choice you originally made, you might be affected.
If the answer is “because mathematically I’ve been told/I have tested that it is the best” then you will be affected.

When the new DLC Wrathstone is released, the ZOS Devs are changing racial passives. What exactly those changes will be are liable to change up to the Live release.

Now, how does this impact you?

Essentially, at the top tier of PVE group content and extremely competitive PVP, the meta is changing. Again. Because it changes every update.

For the rest of us, you can complete all the content with any race with sufficient practice, but it will be easier to do so if your race generally matches up to your desired role.

So if playing at the top tier is your desire or you just want to match your race with your role (i.e. a Breton using magicka or a Redguard using stamina) it might be wise to wait until Wrathstone goes Live and the meta trials folks figure out the math for which races do best at what roles.

If that's not your goal, play on. Practice your role and your PVE rotation or your PVP tactics. Chances are, you'll do just fine.

I would wait until the new racial passive changes go live before deciding what to do with your character, because they still might change something in the next week.

But yeah, they're testing out new racial passive skills on the test server right now. You can read the last few patch notes in the Public Test Server section.

They haven't specifically said when the changes will go live, but people are predicting it will probably be Feb. 25th.

Main changes, Khajiit and Dunmer works just as well for magic and stamina builds now.
Orc are strong stamina DD more than tanks, Nords now are good tanks.
Imperials has been improved a lot.
    Bosmer lost their sneak bonus.

All the other is pretty irrelevant.
And do not race change an level 16 character, create an new one.
If you have one favorite race it does not matter.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

I've been asking a number of questions on this topic, and overall, the answer I get, having stated that I am a casual player, is that for casuals, it won't make much difference.

What gets affected, I'm told, is the top-tier players where that 2% difference in stats really does make a difference.

If you're lvl 16 you can safely ignore all the noise and just continue enjoying this game as before. One thing to note is that ZOS is giving everyone 3 free race change tokens, so no need to roll a new char.

Side note, the classes are all changing next chapter, everyone's going to flip out again and there's going to be demands for free stuff.

Wait, did you ask to be more confused or less?

Honestly dude, unless you are pulling 50k single target dps currently, it wont matter.
pvp too laggy and delayed to care.

Well, you know how some folks feel they were born the wrong sex? Apparently some people have characters in this game that feel they were born the wrong race. It isn’t without precident. I mean, there’s an Argonian in the game who wants to be a crocodile. Only character I recall in the game that is transracial/transpecies though...

They need to combine the list in the PTS there are 4 official threads on it now I think just showing what changed each 4.3.X not total over haul.

    Basically

Instead of % resources will be a flat number eg Imperial passive gain 10% HP : 3000 HP 10% Stam : 2000 Stam
This will slow the power creep hopefully and stop lending to builds that over perform running off stacking resources that benefit heavily from cap. my sorc 45k mana 10% increase 4.5k mana from racials currently will just get a static 2k mana like everyone else.

first tier stuff like reduced fall damage, increased inspiration/drink duration wasnt shared to all classes ie some had bonus XP to Sword and shield for example along with the mentioned above where asa few races only had an XP bonus.

    Best I call explain it.

We also have characters who went to sleep one night with racial fire resistance and will wake up with none, among other changes.

Personally, my Dunmer Vestige will be torn between blaming Mannimarco for getting her into this mess in the first place and wondering what the heck was in her mead last night.

Did she fall asleep drunk in the fire pit again? Yeah she’s got a trip to the healers in her future when she wakes up without fire resistance.

    The usual sturm und drang.

The overwhelming majority of players who are complaining about them will never even see a difference in their dummy parse DPS runs, let alone see it in content, but they'll just KNOW their race isn't meta, and it will eat them up inside....

You have the Dunmer you run into in an delve quest in greenshade, He wish to become an Khajiit and hang out in an Khajiit pub. Potion transform him into an Argonian :) its just temporary however.

Race is often seen as way more important than it is. For damage its 8% maximum and this is for worst race against best.
Class is more important, an Orc magblade does more damage than and Breton or Altmer magic warden.
On the other hand Warden works as both healer, tank and stamina DD.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.
