How to make a Heal/Tank?

So I made a Dark Elf Templar, I got the class healing, but is there any point at all investing in the Restoration Staff then? It seems to be very expensive healing compared to the templar class healing.

I want to know how to tank, Ive read different guides, but there are questions I feel I dont get the answer to. Is there a way to keep the aggro of the mobs? Do templar have a skill to hold the monsters away from the rest of the group? How does it work? So far it seems like the DDs cant just hack away on everything like on other MMORPGs, as a DD you have to be careful and not steal the aggro because there are no quick ways for the Tank to build aggro. Except maybe healing from my 1 time experience of Fungal Grotto, which makes me think doing both Healing and Tanking is a great combo.

Heal Tank, how do I make one, I am looking for a guide, but cant find any relevant ones, please guide me to where I can learn this

Easiest taunting is from the 1h/shield tree. You can use Templar abilities to heal. It isn't quite clear yet how common a dedicated healer will be. Due to the class structure and dungeon mechanics, I'm betting hybrids will be far more common.

Currently training shield abilities along with restoration staff. At 15 I plan on making these two my weapons of choice. The shield gives me damage resists and taunts as to where the restoration staff gives me the ability to set-up some HoT and healing circles.

However, I am only level 9 with this character so I have yet to see how it all falls out!

Not tanking on templar but about rest staff: yes, first of all, heavy attack with rest staff will return 10% of your max magicka, and it is, for now, ONLY way for templar to recover this resource. So you will be using resto staff if want to heal.

Also even with 5 skills you can slot, it is important to know what slot and in what situation. For example, for PVP you want cleansing ritual to remove DOTs/negative effects, for heavy hitting boss you may want burst healing instead of HOTs.

Skills also change with morphs, getting new effect which makes them great heal/support skills. Like blessing of protection which morphed grants bonus to damage for group in its area of effect. Do you need it all time? No. Meeting boss with enrage mechanic(wipe party after X minutes no matter what) is different thing. You will need it then.

Having many tools is good thing, then you only have to learn when to use which.

So no taunt or effective way to tank with Dual Wield? Shield and Sword is the way to go, hmmm

To use Resto staff for the Passives and Big attack only, and have a Destro staff as main range and dps for other situations, is that a viable way? or will it cost to much skill points at lower level for that to be effective?

Fighter's Guild or Undaunted has a taunt of some sort, I believe. Don't think that's restricted to a weapon type. Not sure that changes anything, as you can't block nearly as much with two blades as you can a shield (especially given the one hand block passives).

Are you asking how to make a health regen tank? Or are you trying to roll a healing-tanking hybrid? I'm confused by what role you want to play. Healers are generally going to want to roll out with 5 piece light armor, and a tank probably wants to run 5 piece heavy. The mana regen from resto staff is paramount for the class though, in my opinion.

The lack of taunts in other melee weapon lines is sort of depressing. I think 2H weapons would really benefit from a taunt. It really seems like dual wield outperforms 2h a bit, especially early on. It'd be neat to see 2 hand weapon tanks.

Currently lvl 34 i run a sword and board/resto staff build. The problem with relying on templar heals for healing is they cost a huge amount of magicka if used as your only heal spells, this is why a healer needs to use a resto staff. Not only are the healing passives better with this weapon for healing nut the heal spells cost alot less for the casual heals. Templar heals make great emergency/mass health restoration but will easily suck up 200+ magicka.

The great thing about eso is the ability to weapon swap kid combat. If you ever play with me you will see me swap between sword and board/ resto staff constantly (depending on the tempo of the battle). This allows me to put out dps but heal when needed. When you hit lvl 15 you can weapon swap.

TLDR?
Templars healing spells suck up alot of magicka, resto staff are"magicka economical"
Weapon swapping is key for effective builds
Weapon passives from resto staff make healing THAT much better but only apply while the staff is equipped.
Getgood at reading and predicting the tempo of a fight and switch to dps when you need to (IE your crushing a boss/mob.)

To effectively heal tank, you'd need to weapon swap to get at your second bar of items. Toss a staff in your secondary and an aoe heal spell, then swap back to sword and board and you're golden

Where are you getting this information about Heavy Attacks with Restoration Staff giving back 10% Magicka? I have read a number of people saying this but I can't find that information anywhere, including ingame tooltips.

I haven't seen it documented myself but it's absolutely true. Just go test it yourself.

Healing-tanking hybrid is what im looking for. Among the questions I have already asked, I was hoping there was a good way to do it while taking advantage of Dark Elf dual wield bonus. There is a lvl 3 Daunted 15 sec forced taunt, but no idea how long it takes to get it. Besides it may be a bit expensive, and it uses magicka. Maybe a must for a tank, but I guess its not the prefered taunt to use in most situations.

Dual wield got 2 abilites that can make no melee and no spell dmg to hit for 4 secs, would be great as a tank to use (or not, I got no experience in the field, but sounds like something that is nice).

If you want to heal get a restoration staff. If you want to tank get a shield. If you want to DPS get any of the other weapons.

Forget the other possible combinations. They are there, but you would gimp yourself.

Also. Light armor for healers. Light/medium for DPS and heavy for tanks.

You see a lot of people running around in heavy armor not being tanks. They do it for the looks or they don't know what they are doing I suppose.

What I need to know now is if I got more than enough skill points at lvl 50 to have 3 weapon skills, like 1h+shield, 2h Resto and Dual Wield?

And What about magic, besides Healing, is it Aedric or Fire I should go for? If not any of them, will it be a viable option to get more than Healing at lvl 50 without gimping myself. And 2 tradeskills on top of that... hmmm, thats alot maybe lol

Magic damage is usually better dps than elemental. Aedric spear abilities are great Binding spear has a knockdown effect that lasts 5 seconds. Dawns wraith is fire dmg based so it is great for pesky vampires but what those abilities also do is decrease an enemies Damage. I use one of each on my builds.

Remember though you can always reset skill points and i would recommend focusing on two weapon sets instead of a third or fourth.
