Åå is missing in Swedish. Fix please. And please remove all French and German texts from the game and forum (via option).

You can change /zone channel to english only in option already. There is Zone - English, Zone - German, Zone - French and default Zone chat. You don't really have to go into the german/french threads on the forums either.

We do not need extra support for our languages or anything special.

Ask one of your programmers to use 10 minutes to add the unicode letters to the chat. This is annoying as hell for any scandinavian or spaniard typing in their language.

Do those letters have an alternate way to write them? For example, ö can be written as oe, and ä can be written as ae (at least in German). This doesn't solve anything, but perhaps it might help.

Please fix this, it is very annoying. I have never played an MMO were this has been an issue.

Exactly Loqe, all they need to do is adding the Unicode letters. Easy task for anyone who can put together such an amazing game as ESO.
  • oliver.holstb16_ESO
The problem is that Ä is letter one can type on a non-scandinavian keyboard but one cannot type swedish Å and other special scandinavian letters.
But as other have said before changing the Unicode would fix such things, let's hope it happens!

I'm sorry but there is already an issue with people writing in other languages than English in general chats. I believe having cyrilics and other such characters in the general chat in addition to people spamming like crazy in French and German, would be to the detriment of the game.

I understand there are no servers designated for other languages but we should keep the public channels to English.

Yes, I know you maybe don't intend to spam general chat with norwegian but people will do that anyway. Next up, people with names in scandinavian letters. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31g0YE61PLQ

Hmm? That doesn't even make any sense. They can already spam channels in other languages, just not correctly spelled. Add Ååø and whatever else is missing, already, so they can chat like normal people. But yes, keep names restricted to English letters (and numbers).

Just stopping by to say that Polish has the same problem. ąćęłńśżź don't appear, only ó works. It's not a big deal because we can easily write these letters as acelnsz, but it would be nice to have them.

I have no intention of using Norwegian in the general chat. In PMs with other Norwegians, or in the Norwegian-only guild, however...

That's a problem that you have. Please don't make it out like it's an issue that I have. English is my language, I love the language (most dialects anyway), but in no way do I feel threatened, bothered or harassed by people communicating in their native tongues.

We should be ensuring that liberties and freedoms are supported, not dictating to others how they should talk.

May as well throw in names with Scandinavian characters too for all I care. Silly names will exist with or without regional stress syllables or characters showing up.

I'd like to point out that people already can use special characters in their names. I've seen many names with é, for example.

We don't want to spam the zone chat. If we wanted to, we'd already be doing it. All we ask for is the ability to write our words correctly when we talk to our friends.

Yes but as a side effect other people will spam general chat.

And as Edda and I said, we can already spam it if we want - just with bad spelling. Adding special characters will change nothing.

You sir, are an ignorant idiot. 1st off, there is seperat channels for english, german and french only. You only need to type /enzone to join the english channel. The regular zonechat is open for any language. Even if we can type in our own language, most of us still prefer write english to eachother in public. If you hang out in the regular zonechat and you become annoyed by others typing in different languages, that would be your problem mate.

You actually believe other languages being able to use all of their letters, would be detrimental to the game? This might come as a shock to you, but most players in europe do not have english as their first language.

The main problem occur when people want to either talk to eachother or in the guildchat. Yes, me and my friends do have our own guild, who would have thought that it would exist guilds with seperat languages right?*sarcasm* When we are missing some letters, it sometimes become a bit weird in chat. We still understand eachother, but we would love to have rest of the letters available.

Regarding the letters in character names. Why should they not be available for names? If my name was "Bjørn" in real life, shouldn't I be able to call my character "Bjørn the Awesome"? But it is not all that important with names though and adding the letters to the chat would be sufficient alone.

Some letters are available already though, like æÆ and all the letters with dots ontop like óíá. They only need to add rest of the unicode.

The best ting about all this is When writhing to Custumer Support and Bug reorts and etc ingame you can use Å like there is no tomorow...

I got this awnser when i askt about this:
    ______________________________________________________________________

    Greetings Benji!

We understand your concern about the keyboard layout.

In addition to English, I speak German. I understand the modifiers involved on keyboards, such as umlauts for German, however, I am ignorant of the names of Swedish modifiers, but I do understand how vital to the language they are and the frustration that comes with not having them directly at your fingertips.

Unfortunately, Swedish is not a supported language for ESO. I cannot say if or when these specific characters will be supported, but we thank you for expressing your concern. Maybe if many Scandinavians (specifically Swedish in your case) voice this as an issue, the developers of the game will deem it necessary for taking action. Currently, however, we do not have such characters available.

If you'd like to follow the threads on our forum for this topic you can do so here:
    http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/search?Search=swedish

I apologize deeply for the inconvenience.

Thank you for your continued interest and support!

    Warm Regards,
    The Elder Scrolls Online Team

So It looks like if we dont get all our friends and family to complaine about this then ESO will Ignore the fact that we cant writer in our own lange.

And for Now the game Supports English and German layouts...

But what do they know about our issue... the EU server Stands 20 cm away from the NA server in Maryland, USA so how the hell should they know much about europ at all....

Well people start rounding up people and make them come here and complain about the issue, then maybe they will understand how Anoying it is to not be able to type ingame in your ouwn thoung.

Swedish and presumably Norwegian/Finnish/whatever letters are supported in the game!

    Why?

Because the letters work in the /bug report

Its just that they dont work in the chat menu, for unknown reasons.
    Its quite ridiculous.

I only speak english, I tried to learn others but failed, but even I (a monolinguist) can't support that. I can only hope you are being Ironic (didn't play the video so not sure).

If there are only two servers (NA & EU), and one of them is supposed to be for a region with no dominant language (EU), then all languages in that region should be supported (within reason, a language with only ten speakers would be daft (no, I don't know of one, but the exception has to be there)). Swedish players should be able to use their letters, just as German, French and Spanish players can use theirs.

And yet we have found another fascist amongst us. Welcome to you, sir.
"We should keep the public channels in english" Why? Because the little fascist wants it?
The majority of players on the european server does not speak english as their native language. In fact the biggest playerbase if you compare nations is - german. I am german - and I will talk in german in the /z. Except for when I specifically want to reach a broader audience - then I will talk in english so everyone can understand it.

I talk english in the /enz - and i talk french in the /frz. But I will not forbid people in the /z to talk a language that I do not understand just because I have to feel better about me little tea-drinking butt. :)

And really chomag? You consider things in the general chat that are not written in english "spam"? You are from England I suppose?

I'm pretty surprised that a modern MMO isn't using the full unicode set. yeah it makes all the chats etc. take up more memory, but it is just as easy to code for as any other character set.

Especially surprising since Zeni goes out of its way to do so much in French and German.

I used to work at a document translation company. It is sad, but common that a lot of companies don't think about this when they make software and web pages, Building it in from the start is always easier than putting it in afterwards. Half of our clients didn't even have the fonts on their computers to view the files we sent back to them in MS Word etc. "Why is everything little boxes?" lol

Actually, Spanish can't. We use the same letters an English native uses, except for "ñ", which is not supported, so we have to commit grammar aberrations while talking to each other.

In our case, it's just one single letter and it makes our communication a little bit limited, I cannot imagine what other languages are suffering.
