it's your addons. AUI used to be the culprit for me.

This is incorrect. I disabled/uninstalled all addons, just the base game... and the problem still occurs.

Well, I also experienced framerate drop over a little time. It starts out with flat steady 60 fps, but after like 30 minutes it starts to lower to 50-55 in busy areas sometimes even right away, now what fixed it for me is "Water Reflections" on "Low", everything else can be maxed out.

    I have Windows 10
    Intel I9 9900k 8 core 5 Ghz,
    16 GB RAM,
    Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080,
    MPG 7390 GAMING PLUS - MSI - MS 7b51
    Game is installed on HDD.

Resolution is rendered at 3840x2160, but even on lower resoltion with Water Reflections on medium or high I would get framerate loss.

For me personally, as I prefer everything as maxed out as possible, this is a good temporary solution. Max everything, Water Reflections on Low.

But with this rig I should be able to run everything without problem.. So..

I hope this helps anyone... Maybe it's another issue, let me know what happens when you max everything and change water reflections to low.

I'm at peace now, however I prefer it to be maxed but oh well. I can play super smooth now and it's not like those water details are THAT important to me.

No, it is still not fixed. And it isnt a GPU intensive issue either, yesterday while running around in glenumbra it happened, near the wyrd tree. I sat there for a minute or two sitting at 34 fps. got on my horse and ran about 100 ft south, and frames jumped back up. GPU usage the whole time was a measly 35-40% at 4k ultra settings. The game seems to only utilize a single core on our processors, but why it stutters in some areas and not others is beyond me. My experience last night didnt have supreme abundance of players around either, idk what the deal is. Maybe time for a new engine, @zos?

Even without addons and launcher, the memory leak is still there.

Do a bunch of attempts on a boss in a trial, after a bunch of wipes, your memory will cry out hot tears of pain and your FPS will drop to sub-10 until you get far away from the boss, exit the trial or relog.

    lol

i love eso, but theres nights where i load into pvp and that lag just gets worse and worse til ive got no kills.
i normally dont die in pvp, the lag kills me 98% of the time.

For myself this has happened with different computer setups, resolutions and addins where upon the frame rate will drop a significant amount and stay that way until you restart the client.

Reloading UI, or the Windows graphics driver will not help.

The symptom is a slight pause and then a loss of upwards of thirty frames.
Sometimes it happens within minutes, or it can take a while though more the former. It often begins when getting near something more taxing.

Places that should be easily 80+ are down to 40-50 or lower after having visited a city or demanding area.

You know something else is quite wrong as when you stare at the ceiling or the floor, it won't reach your normal max frame rate (or capped frame rate).

There's additionally a drop in performance that happens every time, seconds after loading into the game world. You'll lose at least 5-10 frames in some places. I am not certain if it's assets loading still or some type of issue with drawing/rendering things you can't see on screen.

Happens at least once per play session, no addons, the memory leak is clear in Task Manager, only 'fix' is to exit and re-start the game.

No pattern to area in the game, can be in a massively populated town or in an uninhabited area.

And like @Saraya this happens on all three PCs I play ESO on from time to time.

There were two things that recently improved things on my end, but the issue is still far from resolved for me. One, I came across the suggestion to disable Cortana on Windows 10 and that made an improvement, and the other thing, I used the GeForce Experience app to tune the game. I still get lots of ups & downs on FPS and latency, but the ups are better and more frequent that before.

    My general system is:
    Alienware 15r
    i7 7700HQ Kaby Lake
    GTX 1060
    32gb RAM
both OS and game are all on SSD
Internet is about 250gb up / 12gb down
I'm on wifi, of necessity, but I've tested it for extended periods when possible on e'net and no difference

16GB and having browsers up while playing, yes you are looking for problems, chrome easy steal +8 GB over time.
In short your taskbar should only contain ESO, below 16 and you are on an potato.
32 or better 64 and issue goes away, having zones in ram then porting back is an buff.

For DPS ESO is mostly about skill, for FPS its all about gear,
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

I'd be weary of what auto tune /pre set profiles do from GeForce. Often they just take out a lot of image quality to gain performance. However if you are ok with that, maybe using something such as Votan's adaptive graphics addon would be helpful.

That's not an unreasonable comment. Browsers are one application that can impact games, not so much in raw performance, rather they do something quirky to the system and you get wild and often undesirable results.

Having said that, turning it off doesn't prevent ESO performance from waning.

It's frustrating to go into a small basement by yourself which should absolutely peg your maximum framerate, and yet it's stuck at 55fps.
Shame I cannot identify an in-game method or quick key ..something I can do to force the same result as reloading client.

Not ideal, though would be better than nothing.

Ok guys I finally upgraded to a new ryzen 3900X system a few days ago, same video card 1080 ti, but new ddr4 instead of ddr3 ram with the 4790k. I've been playing a few days and have made sure to test this thoroughly. I have yet to come across the deterioration of fps over time on my new rig. So this could be an intel related bug with the game. I'm now finally able to play the way I want to play and notice i've been spending a lot more time in eso. this bug ruined my experience for years. Anyways take care everyone good luck out there trying to get them to fix this!

update: i see someone said they are still having this issue on a ryzen 7 3700, so i will report back if I encounter this issue again.

What I see is the game normally runs at 20-30% CPU and 50%+ GPU using c. 2Gb .. when the problem happens GPU usage has plummeted to 5% and memory is c. 2.5Gb .. when I see that it's time to restart the game.

    I7-7700K, GTX 1070.

Often happens in Mistral for instance, though by no means all the time.

The game needs an update, it does not use the video card but only the CPU. The game does not support multicore and uses a single core, strains the processor and very little the video card.
It also suffers from resource leaks when you are in the same instance for too long.
So if you put everything low and become invisible and use the skeleton costume, it's better. ;)
