Open world PvP server?

Why don't we have this? It was definitely one of my favorite things about WoW. One server with all of Tamriel as fair game. No siege, no emperor, no special incentive other than AP, everyone above CP160 from an opposing faction is fair game at any time and this faction based mechanic only comes into play after CP 160. I think it would also be cool to have the ability to move characters from server to server at will and freely, which I think would make life a lot easier in terms of gathering PvP gear.

Everyone is so negative. Why not? I didn't say to close the PVE server, lol. And if you're not interested, don't play on that server, another reason why server swapping would be a good thing

ZoS isn't going to split the population that way.

There isnt enough pvp players to make a tamriel wide pvp server populated enough to make it interesting. Would be pretty boring to have to hunt for 30 minutes (or more) to find anyone to kill.

I also think it would be A LOT easier to manage the constant balance argument between PvE and PvP players

The only way to do that is make seperate skill sets and gear sets exclusive to pvp and pve. ZOS is not willing to do that.

Seperate servers will not fix the pve vs pvp complaints people have

It's more so having to build and play the game with the constant risk of being attacked by another player always looming over your head. It definitely makes the game more exciting. I am also willing to bet that if implemented correctly with no additional mechanics, most Cyrodiil and IC players are and few between as they are, would find there way to this server

We do not have it because Zos chose not to. Instead of a bunch of small servers like WoW, FF and SWTOR have Zos went with mega servers. Granted, they could have done PvP instances but again they chose not to.

And at this point it just is not going to happen. Not enough people play to open up 6 more servers (3 platforms on 2 continents).

We have a zone similar to that - it’s usually empty.

In a perfect world where ZOS can make not just one functioning server but TWO?! Sure, send those darn PVPers elsewhere and quit screaming for nerfs to everything fun. And the PVPers won't have to worry about us carebears ruining their experience,
    Hoping for more playable races

I play in Cyro and IC all the time. In fact IC is one of my favorite places in the game.
I have one character that has been emperor. I have also done all the story and questing etc.

I would not do regular zone questing in that server. When I want to PvE, I don't want to be constantly worried about getting attacked. It would make that part of the game more aggravating, not exciting. When I PvP I don't give a damn about PvE because I want to PvP.

People will go there to PvP but as I said, it will be boring hunting forever to find a fight. PvE players won't set foot in there because PvP.

BDO might be more your style

You also need to understand, that this is not really an issue of making more servers in the sense a server is.. We allready have all those tools in place to make this happen.

What needs to be done, is to make separate instances for each type of player like it was planned before launch (Questionaire)..

EDIT: Accidentally quoted myself, when i was about to edit.. -.-

What makes PvP work in any way in Cyrodiil is choke points. Players by design end up in the same areas so a battle can take place. Get away from the choke points and it is rare that you run into another player that is there for PvP. Usually it is another player sneaking in hoping to finish the PvE content without being seen.

PvP players are not going to like playing in an open server. No choke points means the battles unless pre-planned guild vs guild encounters are going to be for the most part chance one on one encounters and I'm guessing the majority of those would be one player jumping another while the unsuspecting victim is doing a quest.

The server would for a week or two have a few curious players traveling about and some gankers hiding behind trees near quest givers, dungeon entrances and crafting stations. After the one or two weeks the curious, tired of being ganked, will leave. The gankers having nobody to jump will follow.
and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."

100% agree. I will quote myself in another thread:

"I just does not feel too excited without a fear of the unexpected. The most fun I ever got in this game was when I was getting the skyshards, clearing the the dolmens and exploring the dungeons in Cyrodiil solo or with just one friend while hiding from enemy groups. Sometimes you even find enemy players who do not attack you and just help you clear dolmens and sometimes they attack you afterwards. I will love for a new zone like Cyrodiil to explore again. It is the unpredictability while questing that I love."

we would have safe areas, like towns and quest givers.
just like it does in imperial city, same thing.

If this means Cyrodiil and the Imperial City getting PvE modes as well, then sure, I don't see why not.

But don't let it be separate new servers. Just put a toggle in there that flags you for PvP and only other PvP flagged players can attack you.

Sounds more sensible than entire new servers being opened up.

Cyrodill is horse riding simulator most of the time, unless you meet some bored NB that want to jump on you.
Even if you deliberately go into enemy faction spawn, it's hard to meet any enemy player - you want all zones to be like that? There is too many zones and zone themselves are too big to be perma pvp.

PvP flagging would be better option.

I'm sure the three people that played on that server would enjoy it for, oh, at least a week before petitioning to be allowed to transfer to a normal server.

The OP said Wow had it.
LOL and look what happened. The PVP servers got shut down because no one wanted to play on them but maybe a handful of players. So it would be a waste of money to have one.

Introduce a PvP toggle on the current servers. If u don't have it toggled then u cant kill or be killed by another player. If u have it enabled then you can kill or be killed by opposing faction members who also have it enabled. This would give players the choice to quest and roam the world with the added danger and suspense of being attacked by opposing alliance players at any time without affecting PvE'rs or server populations. It would also bring more sense to the fact that there are actual opposing alliances who dislike each other, and not just within Cyrodill.

You want an open world PvP server but with a get-out-of-jail-card for when things get too hot to handle? PvP servers don't come with a caveat. You enjoyed it in WoW because you most likely played on a server dominated by your preferred faction, which is just about how it is on every PvP server in that game. It's not feasible with ESO for most of the reasons already brought up in this thread. The option to PvP flag, though, seems to have some merit.

Pretty much exactly this. You only think you want a pvp server until you realize the actual results of that request. A bunch of gankers with nobody left to gank.
